Slaughter in the same way you would a domestic pig.

Big with the Hispanic population down here. I know a guy who traps for our
community every year or two when the sounders get too big and start coming into
the neighborhood from our private park and eating plantings around the homes.
He uses dogs to trap them. He takes them live and sells them to the local
Hispanic community where they roast the whole thing.

I wondered, as the media made a big deal about it needing 9000+ feet to take
off, but I was sure that was if it was fully loaded

Dump fuel to minimums and empty the cabin and I'm sure the Boeing corporate
pilots could get it out with a lot, lot less.

I wonder if the crew who landed it there will get canned or get a medal?

The 9000 feet was at gross weight. They figured it had burned enough
fuel flying there to allow it to get off the ground with the 6000 feet
available, with the cargo still onboard. And they were right.

This is surprisingly easy to do and used to be more common. I have watched
simulated air-to-ground ordnance delivery there the forward air controller
(FAC) talked the pilot onto the target. In one example, all participants
thought it went well until we showed them the instrumentation replay; the
striker's aim point was 10 miles away from the intended target. Sometimes
you don't know what you don't know.

On a related note, why -don't- flood cars have engine fires? Seems
like they would as soon as the battery starts shorting. Is it just
that there is so little to burn in a normal car, you really have to be

Not enough energy in the typical battery to boil anything
to the ignition point. Also, the voltage is not high enough
to discharge the battery at a ruinous rate. Salt water is
not a direct short. Not like a wrench across the terminals.

Now an EV? A differnt fish kettle. More electrons, more voltons,
and a much more fragile/flammable battery. Many many more Joules,
and they don't need any stinkin' atmosphere present to 'win'.

4% salt solution is far from a dead short, and we're talking only about 12v with
inches of separation between positive and negative. Less separation at the
starter, might be some notable hydrogen production going on there, but I don't
know how you'd build up a combustible bubble of it under water.

If a high performance electric car has some place where two exposed wires have
200V between them, saltwater could convert to oxygen and hydrogen very rapidly.

And if you had a way of igniting that and getting the batteries going...

I'm not sure that H2/O2 would be required. Self-heating of those
batteries alone might do it.

The rule on EV's might be: if it gets flooded push it into
deeper water for at least a day!

Correct me if I am wrong, but hydrolysis of seawater gives H+ And Cl- (leaving
behind NaOH ?)

As for extinguishing lithium fires, IIRC, a special graphite powder mixture is
needed to smother them. Lithium reacts with water in a manner not inconsistent
with other Group I elements (Potassium, Sodium, etc), so most fire departments
can't mess with those fires.

Gives new meaning to carbecue.
