Hendrik wrote: and we learn what from this? Personally i prefer to view something like junkyard wars and the other challenge programs. There was one on the other day about remote controlled submarines that had to compete in a series of trials, that was interesting. A bunch of poms thrashing other peoples cars in a stupid attempt to attract even more stupid viewers, so the network can sell even more stupid products, is not my idea of spending quality time in front of the Fernseher. I agree that I would rather do something with my life than sit down and watch someone live theirs (ie, sitcoms). On the other hand, you can't learn stuff 24/7... you have to sit back and enjoy something occasionally. I sneak in the Sci-Fi shows that way (Battlestar Galactica being the one at the moment). The vast majority of the time I spend in front of the TV (which really isn't all that much) isn't watching a show or movie... but playing a video game of some sort. (Battlestar Galactica being the one at the moment). IMHO one of the finest shows written. Such a contrast to the POS that the earlier treatment of the story was. I was predisposed against it, yet it had me from the first scene. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] stupid car killer Jeremy Clarkson
I don't mind stuff that is up front about being entertainment but some shows pass themselves off as being informative, when in fact they are pure entertainment. I don't mind putting the brain in neutral and watching a kung fu movie or spending quality time with my son helping Ratchet and Clank save the universe but something like top gear is just rubbish. Teasing us with stuff that is beyond our budget and when we work hard all our lives and finally can afford a fancy car, we find that it is just another car but with more expensive problems. Then again I am the sort of person whose dream car is a 124 station wagen but middle age is creeping up on me. Perhaps when the hair starts to go I'll need something to make me look younger and more vibrant. Where's it located? Thanks, Tom Hargrave 256-656-1924 www.kegkits.com _ From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Curt Raymond Sent: Thursday, July 07, 2005 6:52 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [MBZ] STUPID CAR!!! So I'd gotten to the point where I was thinking I'd keep my 240D. John Peterson's '90 300D has been beckoning and I know of a 190D 2.2l 5spd that might be for sale that was calling my name, but Monday we fixed some little annoying things and put in the new mats I bought a year ago and I was feeling pretty good about the car. Its got a dragging brake but it was going in Wednesday to get that fixed. SO this morning it barely cranked over, uh oh... I thought maybe I was smelling something last night driving home. Well the optimist in me says maybe the battery is just crapping out or maybe the belt was slipping a little last night in the rain, so on to work... Tonight to get home I had to roll the car across the parking lot to get it started. It took the WHOLE parking lot, I had maybe 10 feet to spare. Got home, opened the hood and I can detect the smell of the magic electronic smoke. Hello Houston I think we've got yet another dead alternator. Battery reads 13+ until I turn on the lights when it reads barely 12. I say ANOTHER dead alternator because the one that came with the car lost its bearings about a month ago, the next alternator lasted about 1 mile away from the shop. So that brings us to 3... Dang. Anyway I *think* I've reached my breaking point this car is just sapping my energy. Anybody want a 240D? The way it sits this minute I'd take $700, if I fix the dragging brake, alternator and replace the missing hubcap it'd be $800. Int he past year: new mats, new front windowseal (rear needs doing but doesn't leak too bad), new radiator, new brake pads, fresh change w/Mobil 1 (used for the last 20,000 miles), new clutch and driveshaft bearing, both fuel filters changed last week, new headlights, new glowplugs, tires, front wheel bearings. Sunroof works good, the car drives nice. The AC doesn't work(siezed compressor), the clearcoat is peeling badly so it looks like it has mange, the rear window seal leaks, driver's seat has a small hole in the back, the hood has some rust and the right power mirror doesn't work. -Curt '83 240D Hammie 241kmi - On the block! _ Yahoo! Re: [MBZ] STUPID CAR!!!
Curt, Any clues on what you think it is? I must confess I have been drooling over John Peterson's 90 300D but wife won't allow another purchase right now. Where are you located? I know someone locally here in RI who is looking for another 240. Could it just be brushes? OR maybe a bad pulley causing alternator failure? Dwight PS-what color are your mats?
