Our cameras work, and so do all the apps, on cm7. But it's more gingery
and less creamy.

I've never booted back to Webos since the transition.

Of course the camera quality is awful, even the children don't like them -
so you aren't missing much. Glad you are having a good time with it! :)

The boot loader allows me to choose the OS upon power-up.

Re: [MBZ] HP TouchPad Dual Boot

2012-03-02 Thread Dan Penoff
Well, as I may have mentioned earlier, I will be swapping the 16GB TouchPad for
a 32GB model next week, which I will promptly jailbreak.

Then the 16GB one will go to eBay to be purchased for a stupid price (I can't
believe what people are paying for these used!)

I like the dual boot capabilities. Since I have no experience with either OS at
this point I am trying to use both and decide which will become the permanent
one.

Wifi is a little sketchy still, and battery consumption is high. These are
known issues, so I expect them to be dealt with in future beta releases. The
foundation is good, however. My only real complaint is with the wifi being
wonky at this point.

There are lots of reports in this regard, do I am sure it will get fixed
shortly.

You'd think that because you never used WebOS. :)

Actually it isn't that bad, but everything else got better over the last
few years, while Palm stagnated. We used WebOS on the Touchpads for about
a month, but there was just so much more stuff available on Android. (And
as a former Pre user I knew my way around!) Definitely haven't looked back.

Android I can see as a laptop replacement, WebOS was more of a portable
internet device with a barely-decent browser.

I will continue to play with the native OS (WebOS) for a little while longer
before I install the latest alpha build of Android ICS. Since it will dual
boot, unless I feel the need for lots of space I will probably run both until I
decide which one I like better

There is definitely an iPod/Pad app for the 12C financial calculator.
And I recall reading recently that HP had reissued several of the older

emulate the original processors in a more modern CPU. There have been
some complaints that the buttons and cases seemed a lower quality than

 20% upon these announcements...

So, acquiring an HP PC and expecting any sort of after sales support seems
a bit optimistic. Similar to buying an Oldsmobile or Pontiac or anything

I bought a new 11C in the 1980s for $40.
I bought a used 15C in 1991 for $40 with manual.

Even my old 11C had enough program memory to duplicate a 12C, plus it had
scientific functions that weren't available on a 12C, which cost the same as a 15C.

Roger,

I can't vouch for their consumer grade machines, but the enterprise and
business grade equipment we buy from them has done quite well, in my opinion.

And this is coming from someone who was responsible for supporting it.

The education environment is a brutal one, especially at the school and
classroom level. The HP products we have had in place have held up quite well,
and have a minimal amount of downtime and warranty work.

I was responsible for about 4000 workstations and maybe 60 servers, so I think
my opinion is valid.

My peers in the district report similar experiences, as does our in-house
maintenance system.

That being said, I wouldn't touch one of their consumer grade products

A guy at work has an Infinity thats got 300+hp. To me, in a car, it always begs

I'd done perfectly well commuting over the last 6 years with a pair of 72hp

required, just handy. I'd say in most cars 150hp is really all you'd ever need.
I'd suggest we tax more powerful cars more, a green tax as it were... Of course
there is the thought that gas tax, which is a useage tax after all, is more
fair. I dunno...
Is there a luxury tax on sports cars? I'd be surprised if there wasn't...

My wife's Kawasaki 454 gets 32hp from 450cc! One ci is 16.3cc so 27.85ci, scale

The change was in the early 70's, and GM grossly over-estimated hp
before that.  Ford and Chrysler weren't much better, but GM was the
worst (no alternator, no oil pump, no water pump, etc).

Actually, 300 hp from 327 ci isn't all that good anyway -- my 72 280
SE gets 232 hp from 276 ci, after all, and the 3.5L M117 got the same
hp from 215 ci.  And that's as installed, with all accessories
including tranny.

Not to say the 327 was a slug by any means, but not record output per
cubic inch!

the years.

A guy at work has an '80s Corvette, theres some twistys on the way into work
and I can take them nearly as fast as he can (50mph in my 190D, 54mph in his

Re: [MBZ] hp

2009-07-23 Thread pm7088
The last Fuely 327 was rated at 325hp. Drag racing sanctioning body re-rated it
to 425.

During the early 60's, these type high compression engines (13.5:1) using 104
octane fuel were awesome to drive.

My wife's Kawasaki 454 gets 32hp from 450cc! One ci is 16.3cc so 27.85ci, scale
up to 327 and it'd be making ~375.68hp...

In '89 Kawasaki made a big deal about the 454 (a woman's bike) being able to
handily beat a Corvette in a quarter mile.

Not to say the 327 was a slug by any means, but not record output per
cubic inch!

Re: [MBZ] hp

300 hp in a plastic shell is more than enough!

The later 'Vettes are slugs in comparison, they got rather heavy as
they became MUCH more crash-resistant. Lots more luxurious, too, not
like the basic performance machines they were in the early 60's.

Bastard of a rear end though

That would be net HP vs. Gross HP as they changed the standards
sometime after 1963.

Yabbut - it was a memorable ride - i.e. no airbags, no ars, atb, att, etc.
I was given a ride in a classic vette onetime - engine on rails, that
was all that beast was. No real creature comforts - built to move
fast. Kids these days...

1972 I believe. A few engines were actually under-rated, during the sixties.
The Camaro 302 in the early Z-28 was rated at 290 hp. The L-88 427 was rated
at 435 hp. Both engines produced more than their rated power.

I learned to drive in the parental units' 66 Pontiac Bonneville, 389
4bbl. Stomping the pedal on that thing would push you into the back
seat and lay a coupla strips of rubber as far as you wanted. Of course
it wallowed like a pig, had no steering to speak of, was big and heavy,
but did it sound good and make you feel good. The 64 Pontiac I got to
drive mostly was very similar, also a 389, but not quite as beastly.
