Re: [MBZ] '91 350SDL air cond
You can pull the KLIMA relay and jump two terminals there to determine if a faulty Klima is the problem.. I can't remember the terminals, but if you have a wiring diagram, you should be able to figger it out. Power for the low pressure switch goes through the KLIMA from the PBCU -- if you don't have power there, it's the PBCU. High pressure switch for the fan probably does not, but I'm not sure on the 350 SDL -- if it's the W14o, it could be anything since it's got a digital system rather than an analog one for ACC. Yes, they are, but engine coolant temp sensor may also have some effect on aux fan control system according to the wiring diagram here in my hand. Even if it doesn't, engine temp gage has been very erratic for few days; 'gotta solve that, too, and again, according to diag. I'm looking at, it may have some effect on fan control system. Look at page 128 (AUX FAN) of the 90/91 350SDL CD and help me understand the dashed line between the coolant temp circuit and the aux fan circuit at the ACC control unit. Aux fan relays checked good when power is applied directly (on bench), but I have no power in either wire at high press sw at dryer. Fans run when jumpered at K9 terminals and when power is applied directly to fan wires at dryer. Fans do NOT run when high press and high temp terminals at dryer are jumpered/shorted. There is NO POWER in any of the wires at the press/temp switches. BTW, yes, fuses F1 and F5 were the first thing I checked and changed, and I have power sitting at relay terminals 30 and 85. So, does the coolant temp sensor have some effect on aux fan operation via the ACC control, or not? 'Seems I need coolant temp sensor, anyway, for the terribly erratic temp gage; for example, gage sits pegged at bottom 'til engine is at op. temp; then gage jumps to 85 and sometimes jumping to 110+, etc. Coincidence with aux fan prob? Power for the low pressure switch goes through the KLIMA from the PBCU -- if you don't have power there, it's the PBCU. High pressure switch for the fan probably does not, but I'm not sure on the 350 SDL -- if it's the W14o, it could be anything since it's got a digital system rather than an analog one for ACC. Oh, the dashed lines indicate wires/in the same connector/plug. Re: [MBZ] '91 350SDL air cond
On my '90 350SDL with aux fans that won't kick in and an erratic temp guage, (goes from 85 to pegged @ 120+, and back again), a slight tap at the top of the dashboard above the gauge will cause it to jump, so we figured the guage it intermittent. Even hit the block with a laser thermometer by the sensor , engine is cooling as it should. IIRC, there are 2 separate sensors, one for the gauge, which we replaced, thinking the sensor was intermittent. The other goes to the ACC unit. Don't remember if the sensor or the relay replacement caused the fans to start working again, but I know we did not replace the ACC PBU. YMMV. Got 4 cans of R-12 left. Only enough for 1 re-charge after I find where my leak is. ;-( Angelo ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

AUTO, or not, may not make any difference. I think that, if the engine coolant sensor can't'/doesn't sense temp properly, the ACC may not know that the temp is high enough to send power to aux fan relays via the temp switch. Thanks. Good luck with the leak. Found leak at my expansion valve so far. Only enough for 1 re-charge after I find where my leak is. ;-( Angelo ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Sounds like it might be a loose/corroded ground connection - I'd check/clean those before blaming the gauge --- On Sat, Aug 28, 2010 at 10:10 PM, Angelo Giaimo michaelangel...@gmail.comwrote: On my '90 350SDL with aux fans that won't kick in and an erratic temp guage, (goes from 85 to pegged @ 120+, and back again), a slight tap at the top of the dashboard above the gauge will cause it to jump, so we figured the guage it intermittent.
