Facebook is obviously of interest to millions of people. Personally I
prefer small specialty lists such as Mbz and microscope lists, as well as
several small social lists I'm on; all of which have very intelligent and
well informed members.

Waste of time, yes. If you want privacy, you need to pull the plug on the
Internet. There_is_no_privacy_online. Not in email. Not in forum posts. Not in
search engine searches (except maybe ixquick.com). Forget it. Whether or not
the government DOES monitor such things is a question I cannot personally
answer, but they certainly have the ability to. The closest thing to privacy
online would be this.

Our feelings about FB are not an indictment of BuyMB or you Trent.

This list is a very loyal and supportive pack of wolves. We will at times eat
our young, but once in the club, it takes great effort to get out.

We do evangelize. Always putting in a good word on Benz forums, from MBCA,
Benzworld and more. When people we meet have a parts need, we give them your
name, or Rusty, but will be Trent from here on out

customers. Just to clarify the ' buybenzparts ' as well as the other
domains, they are all directed to buymbparts Inc. I need the ' .com '
access. i would hate to tell you how many new customers have gone to the

While as a business owner for most of my life I can appreciate the
exposure
given by a listing on Facebook, my personal objection is this:

In order to even see your listings on Facebook, I am required to JOIN
facebook. Immediately upon joining facebook my entire contact with the
internet is suddenly overwhelmed with popups and trash generated by my
contact with facebook. Something I very much do not desire. Suddenly, I
have emails from companies and people who I have no desire to have
contact
with ONLY by virtue of having ONCE made contact with, and "joined"
facebook. It then takes nothing short of overwhelming effort to remove
yourself from all those "contact points" that have been generated
without

your agreement.

It is, in my considered opinion, the social and electronic equal to
deliberately giving yourself herpes.

Agree. Just... don't get bogged down in this forum, there are other MB
forums (and Porsche, and ?) as well. I think Rusty was burning maybe two
hours every couple days, between MBZ and Banned. That said you are
ramping, whereas Rusty had a lot of mindshare due to his long participation
in the community, so you will probably have to take more time. Just
remember that paying customers come first, seems like you are doing okay.

FWIW I have been hit by a lot of recruiters off my Careerbuilder resume,

this quarter, but we don't have any physicist positions.

Hope summer leads to a pick-up in the job market for you.

I suspect it was the right thread, but wrong post. I read it as a
reply to the post by "Sent from my iPhone". No, that can't be right.
But that's how the post was signed

Let's see Hah! dsereta...@yahoo.com - that's Dimitri.

He wrote, "...I don't want to support its douchebag founder who screwed
over his partners."

Andrew's post fits as a reply to Dimitri's message.

Since untrimmed top posting makes it difficult to follow threads, I was
relying on my memory of the topic as it developed. I wonder if my
memory was good this time, or if it jumped to a wrong conclusion.

Trent,

You are doing OK and improving every day. Keep it up.

My dislike of Facebook has nothing to do with you or the difficulties you
have had getting up to speed in your new business.

Since I am looking for work, I just joined LinkedIn; it's something
people looking for work are supposed to do. I'm finding it to be a great
time sink and not worth the effort. I have connections to lots of people
I have known, but none of them are in positions to help me with my job
search. In addition, the job postings I find on LinkedIn are not suitable
for me.

Having been an electronic engineer for 40 years now and a Ph.D. physicist
for 11, I am very conversant with computers and use of the Internet.
I just don't find social media helpful.

i agree with you guys on the Facebook issues, yes I will use it, Almost
have to. I am trying to generate the younger generation for future
customers. Just to clarify the ' buybenzparts ' as well as the other
domains, they are all directed to buymbparts Inc. I need the ' .com '
access. i would hate to tell you how many new customers have gone to the
california buymb site thinking it was me. I have been told by quite a few
of them they have, and wanted to know where Rusty was. I didn't mean to
take the post as a dig, maybe just still a little jumpy, I have made
enough

customers upset with the hassles and obstacles of taking over this
business. I don't need any help in that field.

Nothing personal intended Q2, I assure you.

While as a business owner for most of my life I can appreciate the exposure
given by a listing on Facebook, my personal objection is this:

In order to even see your listings on Facebook, I am required to JOIN
facebook. Immediately upon joining facebook my entire contact with the
internet is suddenly overwhelmed with popups and trash generated by my

have emails from companies and people who I have no desire to have contact

Where does a dislike for you or Buymbparts fit into this discussion?

I never said either, I just don't like the irresponsibility the masses
apply when using a yool suchas Facebook.

Sorry if you took it as a dig or insult to you. Sure wasn't.

Re: [MBZ] (no subject)....facebook.

2013-05-09 Thread Trent Fiorini
Buymbparts has had a face book account for over 3 years. As well as ebay,
advertising in the Star magazine, Classic Mercedes, can coozies, pens, and
business cards for that matter. It appears by this post a dislike of
Facebook, or maybe just a dislike of buymbparts, or me. I agree face book
is a waste of time, with people airing their dirty laundry, However, a page
on face book has the power to reach over 200 million people, for free..
pretty good business sense to take advantage of this way of marketing.
buymbparts Inc. has many facets. buyeouroparts.biz, buyasianparts.biz, as
well as buybmbparts.net, buybenzparts.com, buybenzparts.net,
shopbenzparts.com, shopbenzparts.net. All of these are oulets to reach
customers. This forum has a member base of about 3000 people i think, with
maybe 100 or so that are very active with discussions. As much as I am
thankful to be a part of this forum, and am very thankful for the
customers I have here, I still have to have other outlets to
generate business. It's almost a catch 22, I read this post of Facebook
being a waste of time and making people feel they have no privacy. I am a
business, I don't want privacy, I want people to know I'm here. And, as far
as a waste of time, I don't know, I guess it took me five minutes to
respond to this post.

Re: [MBZ] (no subject)....facebook.

2013-05-09 Thread G Mann
Agreed !
Facebook serves no useful purpose in my life. All attempt it makes to
invade my personal life are rejected with vigorous effort [and it's taking
more all the time].

Simply put, there is a lot of information of Facebook that I just do not
"need to know" and "don't wish to know" or "Just don't care to know". By
the time you sort through all the trash, there isn't enough life left in
the day to find what you started looking for.

Thumbs down... in facebook talk.

Re: [MBZ] (no subject)....facebook.

2013-05-09 Thread Dan Penoff
I find it intrusive and a big time waster. I can see the value for staying in
touch with people, but the way some people use it to promote their opinions and
sometimes worthless dribble I find tiresome.

I have sister inlaw and mother inlaw who both post all the feel good and
inspirational crap all day long. That part of it makes me crazy.

So I guess the service itself is a good thing - getting people to use it in a
responsible is another issue...
