Happy ending! Keeping the coolant clean will get the max life out of the
unit.

Well today I opened the Servo up and though it seemed to work fine using

Thus taking the top off and cleaning a bit of corrosion from the wiper
contacts. I cycled through my collection of Amps and found the ones that
worked and the ones that did not. This time I marked them.

It seems to work now. I will leave the amp hanging so I can get to it for
some time. Thanks to the list with this help.

George Murphy's article on fixing them looks pretty plausible to me.
It's about 6MB of PDF. I hope I never have to try it.

They've gone up to obscenely expensive, if they're even still available.
Good used are few and far between. That's why the re-engineered digital
system is now available. All the servos are interchangeable, even the
ones from Chryslers IIRC.

This is the way to go. Clean system, works nicely and efficiently. The
installation can be made a bit nicer than the instructions call for,
but the product itself is quite sound. This product makes owning an
ACCII car worthy of contemplation once again.

Servos should be sold on a lease basis. It is only a matter of time

Yes its the hated servo. It seems that it works intermintently and when it
fails its stuck on heat. I have several amps and have cycled them all with
the same result. The system works for a few days that goes to all heat. It
seems that when I test the servo by using a 9 volt battery to drive the
little motor, then connect the amp all works for a few days then all heat.

Now I am thinking that somehow the servo motor does not have enough
lubrication and is STUCK. and while in normal mode with the amp it only gets
like maybe 4 Volts. Then when I put the 9 Volts to it. the servo frees up!

So my question is .. how do I test this I do know the amp works correctly. I
have put a meter on the servo.. and run it through the cycle heat and cool.

Just was thinking do this test while its not working.. to make sure its on
the ball.

I know you all hate this system. yes me to it sucks .. though am not ready
to throw. $800 for the digital. plus I have been working on this for so so
long!..

Any Ideas.. will be taken.. thanks Douglas

Re: [MBZ] 1980 300D climate control (little more help scott?)

2008-02-19 Thread Scott Ritchey
For testing, I'd be inclined to use a cigarette-lighter plug so you can
easily connect it and disconnect it. If that does the job, you probably
want to tap into the switched power to the blower. Unfortunately, I'm on
the road and don't have the CD files with me. But you want to look at the
ETM schematic for the ACC. Maybe there is a fuse that's energized only when
the ACC is on; in that case you can connect to the back side of the fuse
panel which is under the dash. Otherwise, you may need to tap into a wire
in the ACC system. I don't currently have the data to advise.

As many of you have listened and helped me through this with my car I have
still had trouble with it. No I do not care to give up! I am suspecting
that the in car sesor just doesn't have enough air flow over it.

So I have robbed a bosch aspirator from a later model car and am wanting to
test this. Where should I get the 12 Volts for this sucker! I would really
like it only active when the climate control is though am unsure were to
slice in.

I am thinking that I can scab off the radio for testing it though would
rather connect to something more esthetic.

Thanks.. Douglas

The normal aspirator runs at all times with the key on,
it is not conditional on the ACC being active. (So that
it's ready to do the right thing if you were to turn
the ACC on, that's what I figure.)

Jim Cathy was kindly posted this Type II ACC amplifier data at:
http://userweb.windwireless.net/~jimc/chryaccfh/chryaccfh.html
so it is available to others. Be warned that there is more than one version
of this circuit, but they are similar. For some reason, the schematic does
not show well in a web browser so I recommend viewing it with a graphic app
like Paint or MS Picture and Fax viewer.

I want to thank the LIST for all the help repairing my climate control. I
have been working anywhere from 6-8 hours a day on it for a week straight!
Yesterday I went to the pick N pull to get the parts I needed to make a
tester for the ACC Amp. The '79 that I was stripping had a amp and a
original Servo, took the parts from the servo that I could use. Paid the
exorborant price of $28.52 for the stuff I needed.

Once home I decided that I would try the Amp. It worked perfectly!!

I want to say that Scott really helped me tremedously! Many thanks Scott.
I believe that the little Op Amp on the circuit board on both of the acc
amps are bad. So my advice to you all is that when you see those original
Servo's the amp probably hasn't gotten much use and might be good. And they
fit in the pocket.

I called Unwiredtools.com today and the support guy Steve gave me some
ideas on my vacuum leak said it was probably the double vacuum servo for the
defrost. My system leaks down within min. though with the contol panel to
off it doesn't. Also at their web site they have a really nice electrical
diagram for the climate control am going to scan and enlarge them to see if
they are better to read.

Scott the more I think about it I think that the OP amp on the ACC seems
to short to the cold.

Well thanks again.. hope to find that Vacuum leak.. soon..

Scott I am looking over the schematics, seems rather well done BTW! You
mentioned that you had relevant pages for the electrical troubleshooting
manual? Yes I would really like to get them also if its not to much trouble.
I think that for some reason the sensor chain could be open to the AMP.
Going to check that tomorrow. Though when I select the Defrost the Servo
doesn't move from the cold position.

Also I would imagine the freon being gone after 2 years. Going to add so to
see if it comes on.

Thanks Again all for the help

Doug

I'm attaching scans of two articles from The Star on the ACC Type II servo.
I found these helpful understanding the servo and diagnosing it.

I'm also attaching a schematic of the ACC amplifier. I'm still working on
it so it may not be perfect.

The scan files are big and all attachments will probably be stripped from
the list copy.

I wrote something along these lines though I do not know if it went out so
my appologies if this is a repeat.

I have been working on my climate control, changed the control panel and
then opened the
Servo to find that the wires to the motor were off. Resoldered them and the
servo motor works though now when I put the motor say in the middle of its
swing and turn the ignition on the servo goes to what it thinks is park
comes to a halt though still does not stop. The motor stops but the voltage
to the motor is still at 8 Volts. It stops moving though because of a
mechanical stop limit.

Now is there anyone who knows where to spin the valve in the bottom of the
servo where this valve engages the motor clockworks is just a cross. Please
help!

Kleb, what's up with the server settings? I can never download an attachment
in one shot, the server kicks me off after 30-50kb and I have to restart the
download. It's sort of a pain to download a picture of an ignition key in
5 pieces, but the bigger attachments are awful. The .pdfs for the climate
control articles took me 52 downloads for the 2.4mb one and 91 downloads
for the 3.6mb article. Is there any way to set your server to cooperate with
those of us downloading through POTS at 3k per second without cutting us
