Shot placement is everything.Dad has a Brit SMLE that was converted from .303
to 410 bore. It shoots well with slugs.I should check and see if it's legal
here. I know we're not allowed larger than 10ga but I don't recall if there is
a minimum.

Re: [MBZ] OT: M*Carbo?

2019-11-23 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Our deer season is broken into two parts, the first two weeks of December are
shotgun, then the second two are muzzleloader. Interestingly muzzleloaders can
be rifles but no cartridge rifles are allowed.
As with roundball hunting shot placement is critical. Slugs and roundball
should go in the "engine room", the lungs or heart. As you've found they don't
do well with bones. I recently read a history of the 1953 Enfield rifle which
was the first rifles musket in general use. At the time there was much
discussion about the destructive capabilities of the Miné ball vs roundball.
During muzzleloader I'll be using 450grain "Buffalo bullets" out of my .54.
Those go into the shoulder and break the hell out of whatever they hit.Actually
when I'm hunting alone I'll probably always carry the muzzleloader, it's much
more accurate and fun to shoot than the shotgun. The guys in my hunting group
already think I'm weird, no need to remove any lingering doubts...

2019-11-23 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Spent over two hours shooting clays this morning with folks from work. Did
well, dusted a lot of clays, had some quality social time with coworkers. Even
got my shotgun cleaned this afternoon after I got home. A beautiful day for it,
too, high 70s, no humidity, clear skies.

One of our group had a brand new Mossberg 930 they were breaking in. I’m not
big on semi auto shotguns for clays, but it was a nice gun and shot well.

Dick’s has shotgun ammo on sale right now instead of during their Black
Friday/Thursday sale as they have in the past. $2.00 off a carton of Remington
12GA shells. Guess I’ll be heading up there tomorrow with the ML or wagon to
load up for next year.

 LOL, good thing too.
Since he quit smoking my dad has gotten really random. When he bought his Jeep
he told me "I saw the color and just had to have it." You have to understand
that I'd never heard my dad talk like that before. I'm pretty sure that this is
actually an alien replacement.
I don't remember the exact story on this gun but I expect its one he bought and
is too small for him to shoot but it was a "good deal." I got my flintlock
rifle the same way, its for a right handed shooter but my dad is left handed...

They claim the reduced trigger pressure will help shooting clays. An 8#
trigger is brutal for slugs...
If its warm-ish I might try sporting clays on Sunday. Definitely going the
Saturday after Thanksgiving to shoot trap, Dad has a BT99 he wants Angie to
have. Why her I have no idea...

I haven’t, but I’m going to dust some clays on Saturday morning with a bunch
of people from work. Lousy timing as we’re closing on the new house Friday, but
I want to take advantage of rubbing elbows with the bosses at the range...I’ve
been itching to get out there but haven’t been able to find the time.
