Fer sure - I think the 2020 census had a population of about 2,000. The whole county is probably 3,000, if that. However, once you get outside of Manistique, there is nothing. Literally. Hunting lodges and summer vacation cabins. I’ve been there and the UP in general is pretty much like northern Maine. Whole lotta nothin. -D > On Oct 26, 2022, at 3:34 PM, Curt Raymond wrote: > > It's so nowhere that it's almost somewhere again. > Still has 10x the population of Stockholm, ME where my cousin owns the store. > When I say the store I mean it's the only store in town. > > > -Curt > > > > On Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at 03:25:42 PM EDT, dan penoff.com via > Mercedes wrote: > > > > > > Look up Manistique MI on Google Maps. We also had a truck dealership, they sold medium duty trucks too. Sadly they seem to have closed some time back. The "work truck" crowd around here seem to have gone up to bro-dozers. Re: [MBZ] OT: New Truck day
We used to have a used car dealer in town that seemed to specialize in work trucks. He would have a lot of pickups and vans in white or "state highway crew yellow", often with toolboxes, flatbeds, or lift gates. They closed pre-pandemic, and have not reopened. Their lot is on a corner, and they had huge raw blocks of limestone brought in and placed across the lot so that people could not cut through to avoid the stoplight. Not sure why they cared, but they did. For us, as an infrequently-used utility vehicle, the mileage is definitely secondary. Far more important is its ability to sit unused for periods of time, with no drama. The V10 is a low-tech engine, and it does this well. It has an excellent reliability reputation, so far borne out during its 4.5 years (!) with us. (The idle control motor got sticky, so it would sometimes die if you didn't feather the throttle. That was an easy and cheap fix.) I can buy a lot of gas for the price difference between this old truck and something a lot newer with better specs. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] OT: New Truck day
When I lived in WI there was a GM stealership in MKE that dealt heavily in fleet and “work” trucks. I went there to buy my Suburban, as I wanted a very basic one - radio/heat/AC and that was about it. Everything at my local dealers was pimped up for the WI station wagon crowd. I got a good deal on one that was pretty basic - no carpets, rubber mats - but that was fine with me. I wonder if that’s a viable approach any more if there’s someone in your area that sell that sort of stuff? -D > On Oct 26, 2022, at 10:32 AM, Curt Raymond wrote: > > The vast majority I find are black, white or silver. > There are some RAM trucks in a nice red but they're almost always "Bighorn" > or "Laramie". The vast majority I find are black, white or silver. There are some RAM trucks in a nice red but they're almost always "Bighorn" or "Laramie". They're way more money and have a big stupid console in the truck that I don't like.
