This has been a long time coming! It can be difficult for a blind person to
hear a Prius while crossing a busy intersection. My guide dog was trained to
detect a Prius, and demonstrated that Prius Prowess several times during our
2.5 week training period. The Prius sound choice should be put up for popular
vote.

Yes, the 111/M180 (1962) was so quiet you could no hear it at idle. It
was disconcerting, because you couldn't tell the thing was running. No
vibration, no noise, nothing.

Yeah, the frogs in Paree in 1970 had a habit of coasting down the narrow
alleys at night with no lights. It was really easy to get creamed by
one of them in the big dirty city with no streetlights.

Part of why I never had any desire to ever go back to the big dirty
city.I wanted them to be required to clip a picker card so it makes
noise on bicycle spokes. (Red green: tape a bike wheel to the back tire.

The gummint is going to require Pioi and other electron-powered
vehicles to make enough noise so you can hear it before it runs you
over. Having had close encounters of the second kind more than once I
can relate.

A bicycle rider experiences wind noise and their own breathing noise that can
completely drown out any reasonably quiet vehicle.  In my college days I rode a
mountain bike all over the UW Madison Wisconsin campus, and I had to pay very
close attention to the buses with engines in the rear, they could overtake me

I agree. I almost got run over by one coming up behind me. My choice for
sound would be a 240D recording.

Re: [MBZ] OT Can you hear my Pious now?

2016-11-15 Thread Max Dillon via Mercedes
A bicycle rider experiences wind noise and their own breathing noise that can
completely drown out any reasonably quiet vehicle. In my college days I rode a
mountain bike all over the UW Madison Wisconsin campus, and I had to pay very
close attention to the buses with engines in the rear, they could overtake me
and I wouldn't get any audibles, only visuals.

On my bike, riding through a parking lot, one almost ran me over as I
was making a turn, it tried to go around me.

In a rotary on my bike, one tried to go around me on the outside when I
moved to go off the rotary onto another road it almost clipped me.

In both cases I was in the "right" (dead right maybe, but still right)
according to traffic law and common sense.

In both cases they were going rather slowly on battery, and made
absolutely no noticeable noise.

The gummint is going to require Pioi and other electron-powered vehicles

to make enough noise so you can hear it before it runs you over. Having
had close encounters of the second kind more than once I can relate.

How can you not hear the noise a car makes on the pavement? They're far from
silent. I don't consider myself the most observant person in the world but I
notice when theres a car near me. Maybe I have a better self preservation
instinct than most people...
