Re: [MBZ] Question For Max or Floyd
We’re appointment only as well, so I don’t think they’re enforcing the 30 day rule. Your points are all quite valid - it’s a matter of blending in and not drawing attention to your car. I’ve done the “use a current plate” thing tons of times over 30 years and never had an issue. The only time I did was in southern VA with a 1970 280S I picked up in Roanoke. I drove across to I-95, my FL plate propped up in the back window as the car didn’t have a plate on it, so I had no hardware. I stopped in a McD’s in some little burg on the way, and Barney Fife and friends decided to accost me in the parking lot because my plate had fallen down onto the parcel shelf. I found out later that the route I was on was common route for people moving drugs up from FL into VA and surrounds. -D > On Feb 28, 2021, at 7:54 AM, Mitch Haley via Mercedes > wrote: > > On 2021-02-27 20:43, Rick Knoble via Mercedes wrote: > >> In a state you reside in, that may be well and good. In MI, you pay a $8 plate transfer fee, plus if the property tax on the donor car is less than the tax on the receiving car, they charge you the additional tax. So moving a plate from a $6000 Toyota to a $80k Mercedes carries about a $300 transfer fee. The price of the plate drops a bit over the first three years (seems like about 10% per year), then you're stuck paying most of the cost of a new car for all eternity, even if the $80k car is eventually only worth $2k in the real world. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] Question For Max or Floyd
Floyd probably has a spare non-rusty car he can sell you, some repair may be required. Fly down, spend few days fixn' one up and drive it home! - Max Charleston SC On Sat, Feb 27, 2021 at 1:08 PM Rick Knoble via Mercedes < mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > Does the South Carolina DMV have temporary plates available to drive a car > purchased in SC to an out of state buyer? > > > Rick > > Who is tired of driving rusty cars > ___ > http://www.okiebenz.com > > To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ > > To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: > http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com > > ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Looks like form 45-A gets you a 45-day plate for $5 and a visit to the DMV. http://www.scdmvonline.com/Forms-And-Manuals - Max Charleston SC On Sat, Feb 27, 2021 at 2:07 PM Meade Dillon wrote: > Don't know, I'll take a look on the state website and see what they've got. > > I've bought several cars from out of state and driven them back with no > plates. Re: [MBZ] Question For Max or Floyd
Don't know, I'll take a look on the state website and see what they've got. I've bought several cars from out of state and driven them back with no plates. Never got stopped, so don't know what trouble comes with that. I think Dan recommends you bring your own plate and mount that for the temporary drive home, avoids suspicion.
