Find one of the oversized sway bars they were doing group buys on BenzWorld(?) 
some years back for and put it on. Made the back end stick in the corners, best 
aftermarket modification I think I ever made to a car.

This is true, but a Mercedes mechanic I know says that the warranties they 
offer are great - he’s had as much as $8k worth of work on their cars and they 
pay the bill, no questions asked. For that he says it’s worth it.

Interesting how times change. That was a popular color back in the early 
70's. My father had a new 1973 GMC truck about that color. Back then, we 
thought it looked OK. Colors sometimes become popular again. You may one

They indeed are called an umlaut. To write the word without the umlaut,
one adds an "e" after the vowel: Wuerther. And, of course, the "W" is
pronounced as "V" and "th" is pronounced as "t".

I think that price is crack territory for all the stuff wrong with the car,
and I'll bet that an inspection would find more.

Seepage from the trans pan - warped pan?.
-The tires are good but nearly 10 years old
-The inside has a bit of a musty smell. All seals seem good and there are
no water leaks from the sunroof so I am assuming it is just age.
-The front lower ball joints will need replacement. No noise but the boots
are torn.
- The turbo charger does not boost very well. We have removed the air
cleaner and checked shaft play, it has no play at all. It does not burn
oil. After having the local Mercedes dealership go over it they believe the
boost bypass valve is stuck in the open position.
- The wood grain on the passenger side is starting to come up.
- Passenger rear power window does not work.
- The odometer does not work, the tachometer does not work. All of the
other gauges, speedometer, fuel gauge, oil pressure, coolant temp, and
warning lights do work. No warning lights are present currently.
- Radio does not work.

The ball joints would not be that bad but while doing those might as 
well renew the other rubber bits in there too, which could get a bit 
spendy.  But if it just the boots they could last a while longer if not

Feels like a steal compared to alternatives. It basically looks new from 10
feet. Low taxes, cheap to register etc.

It's almost comical to feel like I have to justify the price, given what
people drop on new cars these days.

vehicles at a time and forcing his way back in at the last moment. I honestly 
expected him to be in the ditch or
plastered on the front of some other poor soul coming our way. He would pull 
out in a puff of blue smoke and go as
far as he dared and duck back in and then pull out again as soon as possible 
and do it all over again. He appeared
to have some skill but he should have been stopped and shot on the spot for the 
reckless manner in which he treated
the other folks on the road. If that poor car had failed at any point along the 
way, he might not have had the time
to get out of the way.

I would guess the one he was driving was not an automatic.

A girl I had an unrequited thing for in college had one of those.  Almost
exactly like the one in the pictures, including the very '60s "Automatic"
script on the decklid, except it was a darker green (more like BRG) with a
black interior.  You wouldn't expect it of an old German automatic tranny
coupled to that engine, but it seemed to shift very smoothly and have plenty
of pickup, at least at urban speeds.

VW learned from the Hydrak experience of D-B.  The auto stick shift 
was the same concept, but was a much later design.  It was generally 
more reliable than the Hydrak.

I don't believe the Hydrak was in any 110 or 111 cars in the US.  It 
might have still been available in the rest of the world as an 
option.  The only transmissions I have seen in 110 and 111 cars in 
the USA are the 4 speed auto or the standard 4 speed.  They Hydrak, 
or hydro-mechanical clutch transmission worked nicely, but there were 
lots of adjustments and every one had to be right in sequence, or you 
burned out the clutch, or it didn't work.  I have a shop manual that 
describes the process.  I NEVER wanted to do it.


We had a 1959 220b serial number 000499 that had to be one of the 
first fin cars to hit US shores.  It was an Auto.

Oh, and the '1' in the usual '10' or '12' means LHD.
RHD is '2', or so I've read.  So '12' is pretty common,

Yeah, there's been a lot of talk about pricing in Canada, especially now
that our dollars are pretty much on par.  There have been several articles
in publications, asking why we pay more here, and no one can seem to offer a
good reason, other than we put up with it, so want not.  I've read articles
where higher end cars, such as a Porsche GT3 can cost as much as $30,000
less to buy new and bring in from the US, taxes and all, than buying local.

I think it's been said before, in many parts of the world, a mercedes is
just a good dependable car, but here, even the lower end models have been
marketed as lux items.  Once a product gets the reputation, it's pretty much
like stamping "For Marine Use" on it.  Doesn't matter what it is, the price
just  doubled. hee hee.

material about why buying the
higher priced cdn model was better than buying cheaper USA model

Somehow you would need to convert this comparison to cost per gallon
to factor in that only the Smart requires premium fuel. Somehow I
think the Smart would end up at the bottom.

just more car in general.  While advertised starting at 12, I've never seen
one for that.  Used they sell for more here.

Note:  Dealer retail price is $12 K for the Plus2 Pure to 18K for the
Passion.  Not sure about the Cabriolet pricing.  The basic Pure model has
manual windows, no radio, no AC (not kidding), and manual starter with a
crank like the Model T (kidding!)  The Passion is loaded.

Few years back, Subaru required premium fuels here too, and it put a lot of
buyers off.  I hear most now run on regular, other than their "hot" cars.
All my cars run on premium, but I don't really mind.  Here, they cut the
lower grades with ethynol, so you're paying for gas, and yet getting
something with less bang for you buck, or less bang per litre anyway.  Some
stations cut everything, but the one I use cuts there regular by up to 10%,
and their mid grade by up to 5%, while premium is not cut at all.
