is that possible?
server IP is 147.91.8.38 and it is synced from mirror.etf.bg.ac.yu
content is accessible trough http only for now but it will be accessible
trough ftp and rsync in next few days
Could you please submit your new mirror using the instructions here:

That way I won't miss it the next time I do updates.

Dear Erik et all,

I have added FTP as well:

ftp://apache.officepark.ru

You may add it to the list of mirrors for Russia.

For anyone intended to become a mirror and willing to estimate the
resources needed, you may probably consider the following data. The data
are for Russia, but probably if you take into account the number of Internet
users in your country vs. Russia and number of Apache mirrors for your country
vs. Russia, you may come up with some rough figure.

Average downloads from http://apache.officepark.ru: 1 GB a
day
% ofdownloads from inside of Russia: 99.94%
Number of Apache mirrors in Russia: 3
Number of Internet users in Russia: 14M

Thanks,

The NH users probably won't have a problem. But when you get on the
mirror list and you get 10 or 15 cable modem buggers downloading the
latest release all at once your line's gonna sh*t the bed. :)

It's just not fast enough is all, no comment on the your quality or
intentions which are both honorable and gracious.

OK fine, I did not realize this was an issue.
Users here in NH can download quick and with no problems. But if that's
how it is, I'll kill the mirror and you won't have to worry about it.

I will still use apache on that server, promote
apache as much as possible, just won't mirror it I guess.

2004-10-06 Thread Apache

ok it's fixed.

I don't know why RSync is doing this but it appears that I will have to
email the creators of Rsync and find out why.

I will be moving my apache directory to a unix server in about 4 hours.

Please list our mirror, we want to be part of the Apache Community as we are
working on new ways to merge ColdFusion, FrontPage etc with Apache.

I don't think it's fixed.
Win32 doesn't support symlinks (although recent nt versions support
junctions). So you'd need to replace the l option with the L option
in your rsync command in order to get rsync to copy file contents.

I will be moving my apache directory to a unix server in about 4 hours.

Hmm, the problem is that
http://www.apache.org/dist/ant/ant-current-bin.zip is a valid resource
whereas http://apache.tagcon.net:90/ant/ant-current-bin.zip yields a
404 error. Since this is a mirror it should be identical.

For example, we're sending users via pages like
http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi directly onto the mirrors and a
missing file (or replaced by one with a .lnk extension) will just
confuse them.

The ASF logo is a trademark and therefore can't be used on your own

No difference at all other than protocol. In fact, I really don't care
too much about FTP mirrors. We add them to our list, but we highly prefer
HTTP.

There is really almost nothing of interest on www.apache.org. The
interesting stuff is contained on the project websites (httpd.apache.org,
jakarta.apache.org, etc). Unfortunately, we do not have a good
infrastructure in place to allow the mirroring of those sites.

But since almost all our bandwidth usage comes from downloads, providing
mirrors of apache-dist is a great way to help Apache.

Steven,

Thanks for your contribution, but we will need to decline to list your
mirror. A typical US Apache mirror sees over 2 gigabytes per day in
traffic. A DSL line will not be able to sustain that.

See, for example:
http://mirrors.xtria.com/awstats/awstats.pl?config=mirrors.xtria.com

(In addition, your mirror does not answer from where I am. But that is
irrelevant given the bandwidth issue.)

Thanks anyway.

There is currently no site at http://www.dupluhosting.com hence the error
for this URL.

I would prefer to refer to the mirror as http://apache.dupluhosting.com
which is currently setup and linked to http://www.dupluhosting.com/apache
but when accessed from the first url all the folder images are missing. Any
idea what this could be?

Thanks

The following directives are missing for the apache.dupluhosting.com
virtual host. You'll either have to put them into the global section of
your httpd.conf so that the alias is available to every virtual host or
you can put them only into the relevant virtualhost container:

Alias /icons/ /path/to/icons/
Directory /path/to/icons
Options MultiViews
AllowOverride None
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
/Directory
The rest of apache.dupluhosting.com looks good and I'll include it with
the next update. Thanks for your efforts!

Erik

May be the the package I am using (Mandrake) don't include this file...
I can do nothing about it as it affect too much if don't use package

 mirror.candidhosting.com does around 3-5 gigs/day for apache.

 Let's see. 5 GigaBytes (I'm assuming bytes, not bits) * 1024 = 5120
Megabytes per day times 8 equals 40960 Megabits per day. Divide that
 by
86400 seconds in a day and you get 0.47Mbit/second. That's not too
 bad at
 all.

Sounds correct to me. You could even have Google do the calculation:
http://www.google.com/search?
q=%285+gigabyte+%2F+%2860*60*24%29%29+in+megabit
and it also says 0.474074074 (Mbit per second)

Multiply that by 22 US HTTP mirrors and you get around 10Mbit for all
 US
mirrors put together. I would have thought it would be more than
that,
but I suppose it is possible.

Wow... but to get a better image of the total bw consumption for a given
set of mirrors (e.g. the US ones) we should have more statistics/data.
This
was just 1 out of 22, though the result sounds reasonable.

 Is my math correct?

see above ;-

Erik

Joshua,

That's equivalent to the speed of approximately 7 T-1 lines (at home). You
sure that apache will take up a significant chunk of that? If so, I'll pass

We have been talking about 10Mbit as a nice round requirement, which is
why I mentioned you are borderline.

(We are also interested in perhaps getting more detailed statistics from a
