Hello,

I'm pretty sure the problem is on my end but I'm running out of ideas on
how to get gimp to work with jpegs again. Any pointers welcome. Details
below.

both hints were not enough on my very dirty (as in: updating not

snapshot as current as it gets:
OpenBSD 5.2-beta (GENERIC) #252: Sun Jul  1 23:23:31 MDT 2012
dera...@i386.openbsd.org:/usr/src/sys/arch/i386/compile/GENERIC

followed by a:
$ env LC_ALL=C PKG_CACHE=/usr/packages pkg_add -v -v -u -i -D \
  update -D updatedepends

and a:
$ rm -rf ~/.gimp-*

did not solve the problem; thus I went for a:
$ pkg_delete gimp

and followed pkg_delete's hints:
$ rm -rf /etc/gimp/2.0/
$ rm -rf /usr/local/share/gtk-doc/html/libgimp*
$ rm -rf /usr/local/share/gimp/
$ rm -rf /usr/local/lib/gimp/
$ rm -rf /usr/local/include/gimp-*

and installed gimp again:
$ sudo env LC_ALL=C PKG_CACHE=/usr/packages pkg_add gimp

and, just to make sure:
$ rm -rf ~/.gimp-*

But the problem's still there:
$ gimp some.jpg
/usr/local/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/file-jpeg: fatal error: Segmentation
fault
(gimp:4657): LibGimpBase-WARNING **: gimp: gimp_wire_read(): error

I have found a way to open jpegs: remove all exif data with:
$ exiftool -exif:all= some.jpg

But updating libexif did not help.

Though I have run ``pkg_add -v -v -u -i -D update -D updatedepends'',
ports/infrastructure/bin/out-of-date gives quite a list (see end of
message). I've updated ports in advance:
env CVSROOT=anon...@mirror.osn.de:/cvs cvs -q \
  -danon...@mirror.osn.de:/cvs update -Pd ports

I'm at my wits end.

Thanks in advance for any hints,

Marcus

Re: gimp 2.8 on OpeBSD -current

2012-07-09 Thread Mihai Popescu
You should find a file named gaim.core in your home directory, try to
analyze it using gdb. Also, better, try to run gaim from gdb and see
if you call pull some extra infos. Maybe they are helpful.
I got some segmentation faults with blender, another graphical
frontend but from a discussion with port mantainer I got the idea he
can't reproduce the bug ( I was running i386, he had amd64 kernel). He
said it may be another bug. Wait for another release version and see
if it is ok.

That's pretty much expected as there's a hackathon on at the moment,
lots of updates.

There was a specific problem with a missing library bump in base a week
or two ago that could have caused this, if you updated things at the wrong
time or using an out-of-date mirror you could have hit it. Make sure you're
using a mirror with packages no older than on ftp.openbsd.org. Noting your
domain name I'll point out that at the moment one Austrian mirror is down
and the other is out-of-date, if you're using this then try ftp.fr / ftp.ch
/ ftp.eu instead.

gimp has gone to sh!t as of late.

Here is how you get around this problem, if it is what I see once in a
while as well.

First quit gimp, then:

*** AT YOUR OWN RISK *** (or make a back up of this dir first):

$ rm -rf ~/.gimp-2.8/

Next, start gimp again.

For me, this resolves the issue, until gimp fsck's up again. It is
easy to get it into this state.

 Hi misc@

 I'm getting the following errors when running gimp-2.8.0p0 on OpenBSD
 -current (Jun 28 i386 snapshot):

 x41:fred ~ gimp reading.jpg
 /usr/local/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/file-jpeg: fatal error: Segmentation fault

 (gimp:18542): LibGimpBase-WARNING **: gimp: gimp_wire_read(): error

 This issue is only with opening jpeg files - I can create new files
 and export them to jpeg or png or save the as .xcf files fine.

 Any clues to debugging this issue further?

Make sure everything is up to date: userland, kernel, all packages

I'm running -current with my own packages and things are fine,
so do make sure your world is in sync.

I can't confirm that.

gimp-2.8.0p0 on OpenBSD 5.2-beta (GENERIC) #251: Thu Jun 28 01:30:25 MDT
2012 (i386) has no problems to open jpeg files.

/usr/ports/infrastructure/bin/out-of-date

out-of-date will show you if some package or dependendy is outdated.
