Hey...

I know all you lucky northerners have been getting to see the almighty ATDI

on their dates so far?? just wanted to know what you guys thought of it if
so...

Anybody record any of the shows either video or audio?? I'll give my left

more than happy to swap you some good quality mouse boots or sdre boots or
something for them...

On a final note..anybody catch the most underrated songwriting duo of the

If anyone recorded this I will also give you my left and right nut...ok
well..just see above...

some other bootleg and not your testicles. No offence, I'm sure your

2000-08-15 Thread Tommy G

Where is Fat Albert? That was my absolute favorite
cartoon when I was a kid. Fat Albert's "gang" had a
bad ass clubhouse with a TV, AND they had a junkyard
band. And even though they NEVER practiced, they
would jam at the end of every episode like they've
been doing it for years. Damn that was cool.

How could a kid not like that?

I imagine Cartoon Network would show Fat Albert if
they could get their paws on it. Bill probably owns
all the rights to it and will not license it out for
syndication. Why won't he release it? Racial
stereotypes? Fat Albert's gang were good kids.
That's a stereotype I can live with. It's better than
what you see on MTV.

Bill was indeed a funny man before all the pudding pop
endorsements and the Cosby Show.

"Hey, Mudfoot! Lay some treats on us!"

tg

p.s. modest mouse can be hour new favorite junkyard
band. [a little MM content for the one-dimensional

2000-08-15 Thread Jason Reed

Hello Fellow MM/Fat Albert Fans. After some detective work I've found out a
couple things about our cherished cartoon. Here's one link I found:
http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/Network/1848. It gives some info.
about Bill Cosby not owning the rights to the cartoon (I guess "Hallmark
entertainment" now owns it, so it's up to them if/when it gets distributed)
(so I guess my second theory on my last post was incorrect). One of my
theories about how the "Cos's" early "liberal" politicized views about the
world had quickily change once he got some green in his wallet do seem to be
valid. There's a quote on this site where someone asked the Cos why he
doesn't consider a "reunion" show or something for Fat Albert to which he
replies: "That period of my life is over". Sounds as though he's a bit
resentful/embarrassed or something.
Also, here's another site called Mohammed's Fat Albert page. It has some an
"episode synopsis" guide so we can revisit the complex plot lines which were
the real "backbone" of this groundbreaking animated series. Check it out
comrades

Jason

P.S. Thanks TG for the "Paging Dr. Huxtable" info. By the way, TG are you
old enough to remember seeing the F.A Halloween episode (I remember being
totally scared!).

P.S. 2: Please don't get upset over this being an apparently non-MM post.
I'd be willing to bet that Isaac and the boys loved Fat Albert back in the
day, so this does have relevance.

Yeah, I know of one instrumental band you should check out, Tristeza, they
played at This Ain't No Picnic last month (anyone from LA go?), an all day
concert with Modest Mouse, Built To Spill, At The Drive-In, Creeper Lagoon,
Yo La Tengo, Beck, etc (sorry for rubbing it in, but that concert was the
highlight of my summer). Anyway, Tristeza played on the smaller side stage,
but I thought they were great. I just ordered their CD last week and have
been staked out at the mailbox ever since.

Hey JS, in response to your belief about things being "scripted" you are
very right on. The following is absolutely true: I know this guy whose
sister was picked to be on this MTV "Fashion Makeover" cheesy show where
some so called "fashion professionals" make-over kids to look "better"
somehow. It originally aired towards the beginning of Summer. Well anyways,
this gal was confronted by some MTV scouts at Disneyworld and they asked
her
to be on this show.

The funny thing is that, if you ever watch this episode, it is presented as
though the whole thing is a "surprise". The MTV crew comes to her college,
enters this auditorium, where all these other students are, and "surprises"
her saying that they are going to give her a makeover, right then and there
(whoopdeeedoo!!!). All of the students appear surprised as well and
everyone
is clapping, etc. Well, her brother told me that the MTV crew totally told
everyone what they were going to do and that they should "act surprised"
etc. In other words, the whole thing was scripted

To get off this subject, I saw that someone had "Dirty Three" listed on a
playlist or something. They are one of my favorite bands out there. They
almost seem to defy definition, as they don't easily fit into any typical
"indie" or "instrumental" category. Are any of you into any other good
"instrumental" bands? I've heard of Tortoise, but have never actually
"heard" them. Peace out y'all...

Jason

P.S. In the immortal words of David, as Dany has quoted:
"Come on Be My Baby Tonight
Come on Be My Baby Tonight
I Know how you treated other thugs
Come on Be My Baby Tonight"

  (Great Lyrics, you must admit)

[MMouse]: More Fat Albert Info....

2000-08-15 Thread Jason Reed

Hello y'all. You know, I've been thinking this Fat Albert thing over a while
and it does seem as though this show was a bit offensive (are there any
African-Americans on this list, and if so, what is your opinion of Cosby's
portrayal of African-American youths?). Nearly every one of the characters
had a "disability" of sorts. Albert= weight issues, "Dumb Donald"=
Dyslexia/ADHD?, Mushmouth=Speech impediment... I guess Cosby's intention was
to affirm the worth of all these individuals even though they all (like all
of us, really) have something "wrong" with them on some level. I guess this
is what makes us special (according to Cos)...

I'm continuing my research into the "Fat Albert" issue (maybe I'll do my
Master's thesis on it next year) and have found some more tidbits. First
off, I've found some sources indicating that it IS IN FACT TRUE that Bill
Cosby is a bit disdainful/embarrased at the apparent "political
incorrectness" which the show seems to portray from our contemporary
perspective on such issues and he has apparently pressured Hallmark
Entertainment (owners of the "rights" to the show) to not re-air it in any
form either on t.v., or on video. Apparently there are some very rare video
tapes of the show from the eighties on the black market and those few that
are mint and unopened can go for over 100 bucks!

Check out this cool pic:
http://www.fortunecity.com/lavender/turnpike/237/albert.jpg

I guess I've started to beat a dead horse since there don't appear to be too
many more unanswered questions in the case of "The mysterious
Disappearance of Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids. By the way, did any of you
see the Saturday Night Live skit a few years back where they did a "Fat
Albert/Cosby Kids 'Where Are They Now'"(a la VH1). Hilarious!

My next mission if I choose to accept it, will be to find out what happened
to all of those lame toy-based cartoons of the 1980's like "Laser Tag" and
"Rubick's Cube" ( I sure hope I'm not the only one old enough to remember
these gems...). Maybe there's a "story behind these" as well, or perhaps
they just really sucked and that's why we don't see reruns of them...
