Thanks for the help provided earlier,
Another question on the above is how can i import and set the
certificates a part of my custom installation? i dont want to carry
mozroots with the installation package but would rather prefer to download
it before hand and install from the package.

Thanks in advance

I think you need to copy over $prefix/etc/mono/config as well, because you’re
apparently missing the DLL mapping from msvcrt to libc:

2016-04-27 Thread Sharmad Naik
Hi All,
 I am new to mono and working to create a ubuntu OS (16.04) package
with only the minimal required mono scripts/binaries. I have a sample
service application program which is working on a Ubuntu dekstop system
where I have downloaded the mono-complete packages.

I have now another system where I have copied the service application build
and running earlier and some of the binaries like mono-service, mono,
libMonoPosixHelper.so, mono-service.exe, Mono.Posix.dll and mscorlib.dll
and set the MONO_PATH variable to the location of the folder

On executing the service application using the following command
 mono-service --debug Service1App.exe
I get an error
UnhandledException:
System.DllNotFoundException: msvcrt

Request to kindly share some pointers/links to help me proceed from the
current location.

I have attached the screen short with the mail for more information

Thanks in anticipation.

-Sharmad

I am looking for some help with embedding Mono.
I have a C++ App and would like to facilitate .NET plug-ins . This is the
reverse to what is normally seen, C++ called from C#. I want to call C#
functions from C++ with the C++ runtime being in control. As I understand there
are two options, PInvoke or directly using the Mono API. I have played with
both of these methods.
My problem however is to do with exception propagation. I have read in the Mono
docs that it is not possible to propagate .NET exceptions to C++. I would like
to know if there is any way around this. Is it for example possible to make a
custom patch for Mono to be able to do this ?

This doesn't apply if you embed the runtime. Exceptions will
be returned in the last argument passed to the mono_runtime_invoke
function.

What if I call a C# function (B)  from a C++ function (A) and then this C#
function in turn calls another C++ function (C) which throws ? For me this C++
exception seems to get stuck in the Mono runtime instead of being propagated to
the original C++ function (A)

A (C++) calls  B(C#) which calls  C (C++) which throws.

2007-03-09 Thread Madars Vitolins

Hello,
   I have build up some simple asp.net 2.0 web page (which uses session,
and request objects) and I have tested it in 32 bit environment, so there
was not problem, But now I have deployed it on 64bit linux (gentoo) and now
I got following error (below) when doing PostBack to server. I am testing
this with IE6. I updated mono to 1.2.3.1 and xsp 1.2.3. Page is hosted on
xsp server (it will be for intranet use only). At first I tested with MS
built binaries, later I mastered to compile this with gmcs, but result is
the same.

  Someone knows where could be the problem?

Thanks

I guess that the problem is not MonoDevelop, is mcs, which it does not
support Generics, you need to use gmcs instead. You could configure this in
project preference, setting the targe to 2.0 framework. MonoDevelop 0,12
does not properly works on syntaxis highlighting with Generics, but gmcs
compile it great.

It's all about the applications. We think that Mono is superior to
other platforms, but that doesn't make it so. What makes it a
_contender_ is that it is actually used to make applications.

At present, Java doesn't appear to be used for many desktop
applications; it's primarily a server side framework.

That may change, but decent apps take time to write, so the eminent
takeover of Java will be a long time coming. (Never mind the fact that
it's only Java 7 that is currently GPL'd, not Java 1.1...1.6, and it'll
take awhile for the previous versions to be freed...)

 BUT we would be forgetting that mono being GPL is what made it
 superior, now that java is GPL i fear that mono will be trampled by
 the uncontrollable beast that java is.

Trampled by the uncontrollable beast of Java?

Like Python was? Perl? PHP? .NET?

Java isn't doing lots of trampling from what I can tell -- *all*
languages have their adherents, and the freeing of Java isn't going to
cause a Python/PHP user to suddenly pick it up.

Freeing Java also doesn't remove the primary advantage of Mono:
compatibility with .NET. If you want to share source code between
future versions of Windows (as Microsoft mentioned at one point that
most future APIs would be managed), then Mono is the only option.
Otherwise, you're missing out on future extensions to Windows. You may
not care, but few commercial companies are willing to ignore 90%+ of the
market. (Even if you think that percentage will fall, it'll be awhile
-- if ever -- before Windows has 50% of the market.)

(Note that I said share. Mono permits Unix Wars-style portability,
where platform checks can be used to determine at runtime which APIs to
use. So you might not be able to port your entire .NET app to Mono, but
you'll at least be able to share the core libraries while having
distinct Gtk#, SWF, and WPF user interfaces to satisfy Linux, XP, and
Vista users. This certainly is better than having completely separate
apps for Linux  Windows.)

Since Mono doesn't provide a MSI installer for its runtime,

 1) If the size of the array is constant, you can use this:

 [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential, Size = 4)]

 [MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPArray, SizeConst = 100)]

 2) If it's dynamic, you have to marshal manually:

 [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential, Size = 4)]
 public class MYSTRUCTURE
 {
  public IntPtr myByteArray;
 }

 After the p/invoke call, which definitely needs to
 somehow return the size of the array, use
 System.Runtime.InteropServices.Copy:

 MYSTRUCTURE s = new MYSTRUCTURE ();

 // pinvoke call ...

 byte bytes[] = new byte[theSize];
 Marshal.Copy (s.myByteArray, bytes, 0, theSize);

 Dear Robert,

 Thank you very much for the reply. After reading your explanation and
 going
 back to the docs I now understand what is going on. The underlying
 problem
 is that the Mono Marshaller cannot determine the amount of memory needed
 to
 hold the contents of the byte[] returned by p/invoke call. So I have to
 either tell it at compile time or have some way in figuring it out at
 runtime.

 Thanks again.

1) If the size of the array is constant, you can use this:

[StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential, Size = 4)]
public class MYSTRUCTURE
{
[MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPArray, SizeConst = 100)]
 public byte[] myByteArray;
}

2) If it's dynamic, you have to marshal manually:

[StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential, Size = 4)]
public class MYSTRUCTURE
{
 public IntPtr myByteArray;
}

After the p/invoke call, which definitely needs to
somehow return the size of the array, use
System.Runtime.InteropServices.Copy:

MYSTRUCTURE s = new MYSTRUCTURE ();

// pinvoke call ...

byte bytes[] = new byte[theSize];
Marshal.Copy (s.myByteArray, bytes, 0, theSize);

2006-03-26 Thread Lieven

Hi,

I tried to compile the latest version of monodevelop from the svn, and it
seems to have a problem with finding nunit.core and nunit.framework, even
though they are both in my gac.

So I tried to compile a test program which only referes to
nunit.framework, and it also failed to find it. After looking in the
source of mcs, I have the impression that I always have to pass the fully
qualified name of an assembly to the -r argument, including it's version
number and everything.

So my question: What is supposed to be passed to the -r argument? Should
it be the fully qualified name with version and everything, or is simply
nunit.framework enough?

I looked in the driver.cs file of mcs, and it seems to load the referenced
assemblies using the Assembly.Load function. This gives me the idea that
you will have to reference assemblies using their fully qualified name.
Isn't it supposed that nunit.framework should be enough? In that case, I
think mcs should use the Assembly.LoadWithPartialName function?

Greets,

Lieven van der Heide

In a try/catch block use the following code:

Process p = new Process();
p.StartInfo.FileName = /bin/mkdir;
p.StartInfo.Arguments = -p /home/myname/test;
p.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = true;
p.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = true;
p.Start();

this code create a dir called test in the home folder of the user myname.

I don't see any legal issue regarding listing the site on a page that
showcases Mono/ASP.NET users. It can be seen in Server HTTP header that it
uses mod_mono and can be seen that has .aspx pages as well. So it's no
secret that they use Mono/ASP.NET.

Only people related to the site or the company (Nick for example) who has
inside information should take care not to publish information they
shouldn't because of non-disclosure agreements for example.

But this is their business we (other people) don't have to worry about such
things.

It could be considered a bug, let us know if you find a way to teach

like www.scratchbox.org to do cross compilations.

 I hacked the line where genmdesc was executed in the makefile to use
 a old genmdesc that was compile for the intel linux box.

A good solution:-) The same is needed for monoburg.

 Can anyone tell me wich cross tool chain to use to cross compile mono to ppc
 from a intel linux box? And what does the ./configure command with its
 arguments more or less look like?

For ppc, using a ppc box is the best solution, IMHO, there are many
available at cheap prices.

No, you need the lot (well, you may be able to get away with just the

  Is Mono too difficult to install for people new to Linux? For people
  with Linux experience?

 Not if they use yum.

Yum on FC2 always bails out with dependency issues. I used Red Carpet
to get it.

Frankly, yum on Fedora is not easy enough for folks new to Linux, since
it requires a knowledge of yum and how to edit yum.conf. You can never
make it too easy, especially when you're trying to entice people to use
something.

Better to have one file that installs everything. Package an rpm for
Fedora, an rpm for SUSE, etc. (And a tgz for Slackware would be really
nice, since I've switched back to my ol' friend Slack after playing with
Fedora and face the prospect of building it all from source.) That would
make it a two-click install: one click to download, another click to
install. Also offer the individual pieces for folks who need to do it
their way.

There is a patch in CVS for mod_mono to work with multiple virtual hosts. I
have not tested it out yet so I cannot give you any pointers on using it.

As far as the application goes, each ASP.NET page does not have to be part
of an application. They can be served up in the same way php and perl can.
What an application allows you to do is actually build a web application in
much the same manner as you would go about writing a desktop application.
There is an optional global application file that can be used so multiple
pages in the application can share information with each other as well as
define tasks common to the application as a whole.

I hope that helps.

-

Why is it a must to keep the asp.net pages in a so-called 'application'? I
don't really understand what's meant by an application exactly...coz I am
used to writing php/perl CGIs, and seems that they don't have such concept.

This idea annoys me because my apache is configured to serve mass virtual
hosts dynamically. Usually for the perl/php case, I just need to map *.pl
*.php to their respective handler. But for the asp.net (or maybe even the
JSP as well?) I need to setup applications to handle the pages. Why is it
necessary to have applications? It sounds to me that it would be quite
troublesome to setup so many applications on the web server

By the way, would that imply that it is not sensible/possible to provide
asp.net hosting service to a lot of users on a shared server if the
'application' restriction must apply? coz I might need to create thousands
of applications for them, which could add a lot of work load to me, and
causing the httpd.conf to grow very very big.

Could anyone kindly give me some guidance on this matter?
I'd appreciate your help!!

Best regards
mc.

P.S.: sorry for my poor english :)

There's no g_strcasecmp in mod_mono. What version are you using? is that
from a package or you compiled mod_mono from CVS?

Also, I'll have a new version of CookComputing that will support other

problems.

And, please, take 30 seconds to write a Subject to the message.

You have one simple webservice in XSP module in the CVS repository.

Yes, you can create asp.net web services and host them in XSP. There are
