Re: [MOPO] A signed poster I'm fond of

2006-09-26 Thread Offaleater
I have nearly every Ted V Mikels 1 Sheet, pressbook, and other items, signed
by Ted, Also a few posters signed by Enzo Castellari and Franco Nero.
Some signed items from Tura Satana.
Have Christopher Lee's signature, Peter Cushing amongst others.

Love them, and know they are all real. All obtained by myself, except
Cushing who came via a good friend.

[MOPO] enough? never!

2006-09-21 Thread Offaleater
Peoples, peoples
One thing I've learned running a forum (yes folks the other one, the one
where we swear and have posters that contain NUDITY - thats how we are born
folks), is that people are people, we like to collect posters, but we are
PEOPLE, there's more to our life than pretty bits of paper (as my Uncle has
said).

What keeps us together is the passion of paper, and what drives us apart is
that we are unique, individual, PEOPLE.

So... whaddawedo? We can ONLY talk posters (subjects run out eventually), we
can connect and NOT connect on many other levels, remembering that what does
connect us is-

1) POSTERS/LOBBY CARDS/STILLS/Whatever
2) And more importantly (I hope) WE love MOVIES.

S. I personally don't mind if JR doesn't like Donnie or Susan, if
Tint doesn't like me (haha - Hi Bro), whatever, my friends, I am just glad
we ALL like movies, and crap that happens, big deal, I get worse phone calls
every day in my professional life than ANYTHING I've seen in Mopo, NSFGE
(apparently not suitable for anyone with class), Style B or MPF, MPC, MPT,
whatever.

So, thanks for listening, think this is my longest Mopo post in a LONG time,
wanna fight? prob not, but if so, see ya in FIGHT CLUB (NSFGE Copyright OK?)

SO,, (those commas are for you Drak) Relax already.

Not entirely serious, not entirely in jest,

Ari - (no we arent all as humane as the croc hunter) -

Isnt it funny, depending on AGE and what you saw as a youngster people feel
what they like/remember/continue to enjoy is the "real" thing.

I know many people, some here, Forry also doesnt consider "slasher' films
and "gore' films as "Horror" films.

It reminds me of my friends and I. We as teens and early 20's into the PUNK
scene.

NOW there is "New School" Punk. WE HATE IT, we say, ITS NOT PUNK, Punk was
about certain things and these clean cut, cool kids from US Colleges are NOT
Punk - THEY DONT GET "IT". The kids say, YEAH BUT YOU'RE OLD SCHOOL, THIS IS
NEW SCHOOL. We dont get them, they dont get us.

Horror fans of an older generation, MUSIC FANS, whatever, they like what
they grew up on, they see it as real and the new stuff is not.

SO, we had from my parents generation, why do you listen to this crap music?
Listen to CREAM, those guys could play. Exploited? They cant even keep in
time.

Now its Whats with all this Electronic junk, wheres the "real"
intruments?

I don't care, I like Horror films, and ALL genres of film, and watch
anything once and anything I like will watch again (and again) from
Experimental to Exploitation.

Im with Erik here.

I'm sure the Pope doesnt "dash little children against rocks".

We all have different tastes and I am glad of it.

I have enjoyed Horror films of all types since i was 4 years old, and
watched more than most, from classics to cannibal Holocaust.

Strangely or not I've also been a strict vegetarian for 21 years.

Never beaten anyone up.

Anyone who knows me, knows I wouldnt hurt a fly.

BUT I do admit, i enjoy films that are hard to watch, not sure why maybe
ask a GOYA fan what they see in his works.

Death and Violence has been a mainstay of all artforms for a long time, and
I don't think its going anywhere..

Re: [MOPO] Take your Best Shot ...

2006-01-16 Thread Offaleater
personally I take the images with the HIGHEST resolution setting. Then
readjust the size (same time adjust colour balance and cropping etc) in
Photoshop.

If you take the BESt shot first you cant go wrong, its not going to work if
you need to enlarge for whatever reason if you start small.

So i say TAKE IT BIG, reduce and save a copy - keep both vesrions, someone
might email and say HEY CAN I GET A BIGGER SHOT?

Good luck,

Re: [MOPO] Bidpay

2006-01-05 Thread Offaleater
I just used a site called-

www.moneybookers.com/

you can upload $$ from your bank account and send like paypal direct to the
seller account. The seller i used it for is in China, so should be available
to most countries.

No fee to put $$ into your buyer account, and spend when you need, the
commission is I assume in the sellers account.

fast and easy (although it takes a few days for the money from your bank to
reach your online account)

YEAH I love FRED OLEN RAY, he still has a while to catch Jesus Franco, but
he is also about 30 years younger, so I'd say he will take it.
Unless Jesus never dies, and what with all the "excersice" he gets in many
of his films, and what with Lina he MIGHT live on and on..

Actually i just searched IMDB and heres the top list, of course this
includes TV and shorts, -

Rank Name Titles

1. Dave Fleischer 619
2. Georges Méliès 561
3. D.W. Griffith 536
4. Gilbert M. 'Broncho Billy' Anderson 385
5. Stan Brakhage 371
6. Al Christie 367
7. Louis Feuillade 366
8. Allan Dwan 345

Re: [MOPO] question about DEEP THROAT one sheet

2005-12-20 Thread Offaleater
Same goes for Exploitation titles from this era. Many different printers and
sizes can and did happen.

Also note I think an early Video poster for this title would be a great
collectable.
Remember many people were exposed (!) to Deep Throat via Video, and early
video posters on "good" titles are often harder to find than theatre posters
(in these days there were more theatres than video stores).

BUT I don't know what this is.

Re: [MOPO] Creature from the black lagoon poster

2005-09-29 Thread Offaleater
Hmmm-

REPRODUCTION - a replica poster made for consumer sales - possibly different
in size.

REPRINT - a studio issued poster made for sales from studio stores,
licenced sellers, poster/movie/music stores etc. (although I've seen some
people use this term for Reissue - personally it doesnt seem right).

FAKE - made and/or sold with the intention of the buyer believing they are
getting an original poster made for theatrical use when in fact it is NOT
(see Minty Whites).

[MOPO] Fwd: [MOPO] New Movie Poster Forum

2005-05-07 Thread offaleater
Thanks Bob for the heads up to fellow Mopo-ers.
I would like to make clear that our forum is not trying to replace
Mopo, Style B or MPT, infact both Phil and I post and read on all of
these. Its just another place with a different vibe.
Its like Movie poster talk in that its online, you can post images etc.
Its like Style B in that there may be off-topic posts that lead
anywhere. But in just under a week has developed its own personality,
quite distinct to the others.
Also I'd like to make clear that while we are an open forum, its not a
forum designed as a place to attack anyone in particular, or any
subject.
All are very welcome to join and we hope to see some of our mopo

[MOPO] Fwd: [MOPO] SIN CITY, Violence & the human psyche

2005-03-30 Thread offaleater
Pure Exploitation, claiming anything like this.
SEE! MORE THRILLS AND SPILLS THAN EVER CAPTURED ON FILM BEFORE! etc etc.
Been here from the early days and aint going nowhere (yah!)
Been here longer than movies in fact, I know one Old Book thats a
classic of the Exploitation genre.
Books, theatre, music, sideshows and film, its easier to out SHOCK than
out THINK - and I am lucky to say I like my films smart, but sheesh I
LOVE 'em TRASHY. Usually if I want to think, or stretch my BRAIN I read
(or even better think).

Re: [MOPO] Mickey and the Robot

2005-03-22 Thread offaleater
A heartwarming tale of lonely man and his new friend. Mickey and the
Robot is a funny feel-good short film, with a robot straight from 50's
Sci-Fi, this simple tale of Man and his "post-dog" best friend cannot
help but put a smile on any viewers face.
Great stuff Tom, I will be sending to some film festivals and will let
you know where it screens (probably Australia and Germany)

Re: [MOPO] Ummm... Daybills are bad... ummm, OK?

2004-08-17 Thread Offaleater
Here here…
I am always perplexed with the collector snobbery against “foreign” posters
(or at least certain countries/formats)… I always have a laugh when I get
emails from would be buyers…

“WHAT SIZE IS THIS DAYBILL?”
(I always have size clearly stated in the listing)

When I answer with the size I get…

“SORRY I ONLY COLLECT FULL SIZE POSTERS”

Hmm guess what mate?? This is a FULL SIZE DAYBILL.

I love the format, but then I’m Australian… but I also like Quads, German ,
French, Italian, Spanish, ALL of them, give me a good title and good art –
and I am happy (although most of you may disagree with what I consider GOOD
TITLE/ART).

Good news is as JR mentions there is BARGAINS for us with the taste to
collect them…. Bad news is a great poster may not get the return that it
deserves when being sold – but as we know that’s down to demand.

Lets have BUY A “foreign” poster week – all you I ONLY LIKE U.S. POSTERS
people, go out and buy one – you may be surprised..

Have fun,

Ari
