[MOPO] Regarding Heritage Poster Division

2024-06-01 Thread peter contarino
As Heritage's poster auctions have continued to slump, both in terms of
quality and quantity, customers have been waiting for Joe Maddalena, the
ostensible Grand Vizier, to arise from whatever stupor he has been
languishing in and address the many issues plaguing his division (poor
grading, Looong auction delays, no communication, crippy crappy weekly
items, etc).

He has finally emerged from his torpor and sprung into action to address
what is certainly the biggest issue on buyer's minds. Well done sir.

HA Movie posters
Buyer's Premium per Lot:
25% on the first $1,000,000 (minimum $29), plus 20% of any amount between
$1,000,000 and $5,000,000, plus 15% of any amount over $5,000,000 per lot.

Re: [MOPO] Propstore April Auction - What The, Huh?

2024-04-20 Thread peter contarino
Well said David. I understand why propstore employed the use of the third
party sites but why anyone would use those sites knowing they can go
directly to propstore is beyond me.

On the positive side I’m thankful for another poster venue with signature
quality auctions. Particularly since it appears that heritage will never
get their shit together as the December 2023 auction became the Jan, then
Feb, then March, then April, and now May (soon to be October at this rate)
auction.

I’m thankful that Grey Smith is building another excellent venue. The hobby
dearly needs it.

list of some of the items we think ALL movie paper collectors should
strongly consider owning: *Lineco Document Repair Tape and Lineco
Transparent Mending Tissue - This is tape that is safe for use on movie
paper. You can use it on the back of items to secure tears. *Bestine (or
"Un-du") - This is a solvent that can dissolve the sticky part of tape
making the tape easily removed without damage to movie paper and is
therefore super useful in removing tape from older posters, and also can
"save the day" if you accidentally get tape stuck to a poster when removing
it from a package. NOTE: This is a highly flammable and dangerous substance
and should only be used in a well ventilated area, and ONLY if you are at
least somewhat "handy" and will be EXTREMELY careful using it. Be sure to
read ALL of the manufacture's warnings before use. *A utility knife, Xacto
knife, or similar - This is wonderful for opening well packed packages
(such as those eMoviePoster.com uses). NOTE: You should always cut with
care as these knives are extremely sharp and WILL cut through several
pieces of cardboard with ease, and can also cut into YOU with even greater
ease. You definitely do NOT want to accidentally cut your movie paper (or
yourself)! *A REALLY strong light (like 400 watts or stronger) - This is
wonderful if you own or are considering buying restored items. When you
hold those items up before a light source like this, you will likely be
able to practically "see" right through the linen or paper backing, and you
can likely see the extent of the restoration. You will need some practice
to know how to interpret what you see in some cases, but in many cases it

Fine is still a generous grade. It's missing two corners, the other two
corners have some loss, there is a chunk out of the top border with a 3 +"
tear going into image, multiple smaller border tears, and some minor
scrapes and crimping in the image area. Other than that!

Re: [MOPO] Heritage fees

2023-06-10 Thread peter contarino
Hi Helmut,

Well I did get a perfunctory email, albeit no mention of how the BP affects
the final seller's net:
.

Hi Peter,

I believe your question was already answered.

Consignment rates vary depending on category and auction format. Heritage
sells over 40 categories of collectibles, all with very different markets.

As with every other auction venue, the seller’s fee (expressed as a
percentage of hammer) is deducted from the hammer price (winning bid
amount) realized by a lot. The seller’s fee is agreed to and memorialized
in a consignment contract.

If the seller’s fee was 25% of hammer for a lot that sells for $1000 or
less, the seller would net $37.50.

I’ve shown you where to locate buyer’s premium information for each
auction. Any bid you place on the website will tell you what the resultant
purchase price would be if you were to win the auction at that bid amount.

David I have done that and it works well.

I found this place awhile back and they have really nice wood frames cut to
size and the prices are amazing.

[MOPO] Now THIS is a catalog!

2023-04-27 Thread peter contarino
I just finished going through session one of the new Propstore catalog for
the poster auction ending May 17 & 18. What an absolute pleasure this
catalog is. It begins with an excellent 4 page Poster Size Guide and also a
codified and coherent explanation of their grading system which I
particularly appreciate.

Many catalogs start to feel like a slog after a while but the large format
photos used in this catalog (often only two per page) make it a real
pleasure to experience.

Grey has assembled a really diverse and interesting selection of material
with some very serious gems. The descriptions are both concise and
unambiguous and also full of interesting additional information on both the
film and the paper itself. Even the novel way of displaying the autographs,
very clever.

A lot of care went into creating this catalog.

And finally the terms and conditions. Often times it requires the love
child of Holmes and Columbo to get to this information. It is laid out
explicitly. Again, much appreciated.

Congrats Grey! Thank you for making this special. Good luck with your
premier auction!

Just went through the material on the upcoming Propstore Poster Auction.
Really nice and diverse selection of material including some very

The site has an interesting feature where within the item description area

2023-03-28 Thread peter contarino
Thanks David, I neglected to mention the title! Yeah HA has gone down the
drain since Grey left. If you look at the last Sunday auction there are a
lot of really faded pieces. Even in the recent signature auction there was
the biggest selection of faded LC's I have ever seen. Shocking to see that
level of material in a Sig auction. Evidently Bruce is not grading all or
some of the auction material. There is another sweet creamsicle variant
coming up in the Sig auction in march. Looks remarkably similar to the one
they just "sold" on Sunday.

[MOPO] Spotlight poster frames question

2023-01-28 Thread peter contarino
Has anyone ever used this brand of frame? They use PETG overlay in lieu of
glass. Can anyone tell me if they have had any experience with this
company? And whether the overlay is harmful to paper?

Thanks,

-Peter
