[mou-net] Lesser Black-backed Gull, Hennepin County
Late this afternoon (around 4:45) there was an adult Lesser Black-backed Gull on Lake Harriet, Minneapolis, viewed from the southwest corner of the lake. Still many hundred Ring-billed Gulls here, as well as increasing numbers of Herring Gulls. Earlier, Bruce Fall had spotted a first-winter Glaucous Gull. A few Tundra Swans settled on the lake as darkness set in. [mou-net] Carolina Wren, Goodhue County
At 11:00 today (11/25) I observed a Carolina Wren at the Old Frontenac Cemetery. It was foraging in the brush piles at the loop at the end of the road, near the garbage can. [mou-net] Townsend's Solitaires, Carver Park Reserve 11/13
There are currently a minimum of Two Townsend's Solitaire just west of Springview Reservation Area of Carver Park Reserve. Take the grass past west of the building here about100 yards and the birds were calling and feeding on red cedar berries. I would have never found them if they hadn't been loudly calling. TOSO have been in this area in previous years. Doug Kieser Hennepin County Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html

[mou-net] Silver Bay Northern Mockingbird still present 11/7
The Northern Mockingbird previously found by the MBW group at Bayside Park in Silver Bay is still present this morning, feeding on Mountain Ash near the beach/picnic area. [mou-net] Bohemian Waxwing, Hennepin Co
Hi, Just saw one Bohemian Waxwing with a small flock of Cedar Waxwings in a juniper (full of berries) on 61st St just west of Lyndale. This is the south edge of the Bachmann parking lot. The flock is currently in an ash tree across the street. Re: [mou-net] Fwd: Beguiling Sandpiper Carver Cty.
The potential first state record Sharp-tailed Sandpiper is still present and providing nice looks to many birders. Thanks Pete! [mou-net] Buff-breasted Sandpipers, Wright Co.
There are currently two Buff-breasted Sandpipers in a muddy field on the east side of Quimby Ave., south side of 110th St SW in far southwestern Wright Co. This is just east of county 1. In my experience it's a pretty tough bird for the county, I've spent a lot of hours looking, these are the first I've found. [mou-net] Buff-breasted Sandpipers and others; Jirik Sod Farms Dakota County
A stop at the Jirik Sod Farms this evening produced three Buff-breasted Sandpipers, and a few other shorebirds including Lesser Yellowlegs, Solitary Sandpipers, Pectoral Sandpipers and one Stilt Sandpiper. The majority of the birds, including the Buff-breasted Sandpipers, were in the large area of stripped sod on the east side of Blaine Ave., and most were pretty close to the road. Nothing as exciting as a Piping Plover or Red Knot but who knows what tomorrow could bring. There is quite a bit of standing water from last night's rain. Bug spray is recommended. The sod farms are located on Blaine Ave. (county 79) south of 200th St. (county 66). [mou-net] Cottonwood County Blue Grosbeaks, other sightings 7/31
Hi, While Blue Grosbeak reports outside of the extreme southwest corner of the state have become more common over the past decade, I was still very surprised when the first bird I saw while scanning a mown hay field in far northern Cottonwood County late this afternoon was a brilliant adult male Blue Grosbeak - which was soon joined by a female. This field was on the north side of 210th street, on the west side of county 5, just a bit south of the Redwood county line. Other than the grosbeaks, only Killdeer and starlings were present. A half hour earlier, I enjoyed seeing a family of Gray Partridge on the edge of the road just south of the Jeffers sewage ponds (male, female, and at least 6 thumb-sized chicks). In Jackson County, the Black-necked Stilts were still present at the Christiania WPA, and a Henslow's Sparrow was singing from a mullein on the south side of 36. The Upland Sandpipers and Buff-breasted Sandpipers previously reported by Bob and Ron were still in the mown fields north of county 14 west of 400th. On the way home, there were 2 Upland Sandpipers with many Killdeer in a freshly-cut field at the intersection of Sibley county highways 4 and 1 (southwest of Winthrop). [mou-net] Pacific Loon still present 5/15 PM, Rock Co.
The beautiful Pacific Loon was still present this afternoon despite the presence of some folks on a paddle boat. The Northern Mockingbird at Blue Mounds S.P. entrance station was also cooperative. The Park's trees are crawling with warblers, sparrows, and thrushes. Thanks Dave and Ron! [mou-net] Yellow-throated Warbler still present - Downtown Minneapolis
The Yellow-throated Warbler found by Nick Minor earlier this afternoon at Gold Medal Park was still present and cooperative at 4:30, singing and aggressively responding to light pishing. This is just east of the Guthrie Theater, a ten-minute walk from the U.S. Bank Stadium light rail stop. Preparations were underway for a 1-mile run here, including a band setting up, so locating this bird this evening might be difficult.
