Hi, All,

What are the possible reasons that might cause messages stuck in the
transmission queue?
I check the MQXQH and it looks OK.
Thanks for your help.

Well, there is one other thing that I can think of, which I am dealing with
right now, and that is "ghost" messages on the XMITQ. The depth shows >0,
but there is no message there to browse, and the channel is sending 1000s
of
messages an hour all along.

The fact that you can look at the MQXQH makes me believe your problem is
slightly different (I couldn't see any evidence at all of any message in my
case). But maybe its related?

Here is the link to the APAR (IC40975). I am installing it to the PROD
environment SAT night. So far so good in the test environments.

Please let us know what you find.

What if the sending side has no DLQ, the XMITQ can take a message 10 MEG
long, but the channel can only accept 4 MEG. Usually the sending MCA would
dump the message to the sender's DLQ. I wonder what would happen if there
was no DLQ on the sender side? Would the channel stay running? Would other
messages be able to get by, or would the big message cork the flow? Not
sure. Just typing out loud...

Maybe you can eliminate this possibility by checking the sizes of the
message, the XMITQ and the channel, as well as verifying that you do have a
DLQ on the sender side.

However the channel is up and running and this problem occurs on the z/os

I already check the MSTR and CHIN and there is no error messages.
Stop/start the channel will not fix the problem since it causes MSTR to

David,

You probably got a number of S5C6 ABENDs prior to the S6C6. This might
be memory-related (lack of Virt. Storage) and/or a msg-length issue. Are
you trying to send msgs larger than 4 MEG on channels/queue managers that
are not configured to handle these size msgs? What about the receiving
QMGR - is it set-up to handle these msgs, including DLQs on both ends?

  Some things to check.

David,

I'd look at the triggering parms for this channel (i.e., INITQ name,
trigger=Y, trigger on FIRST, channel name in TRIGDATA field, etc.). I've
found this to be the problem in almost all cases of new channels failing to
start and msgs being 'stuck' in the XMITQ.

Clustering Question

2004-02-10 Thread Warren
In a nutshell, we will be allowing an outside firm access to "put" to a few
"internal" queue managers. In order to achieve some method of workload
balancing, we wanted to use MQ's clustering capabilities. First of all,
what are the drawbacks of just making one big cluster (external and
internal queue managers in the same cluster) as opposed to having a
"gateway" queue manager in overlapping clusters (which is recommended from
one document that I've read).
Aside from issues with server connection channels, what other security
issues should we be concerned with, and how would those issues be addressed?

2004-02-02 Thread Warren
Forgive me if these questions have been posted before. I have a few
questions regarding MQ Clustering and security.
In a nutshell, we will be allowing an outside firm access to "put" to a few
"internal" queue managers. In order to achieve workload balancing, we
wanted to use MQ's clustering capabilities. First of all, what are the
drawbacks of just making one big cluster (external and internal queue

all?
Aside from issues with server connection channels, what other security
issues should we be concerned with, and how would those issues be
addressed? We've never really had to deal with queue managers from outside
environments connecting to ours (that is, until now).
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone implemented this Security exit from Neil Kolban in production? I
have been fiddling with it in my LAB environment and it seems to work well.
http://www.kolban.com/mq/Security/security.htm
I was considering putting it on all my SYSTEM.ADMIN.SVRCONN channels, and
tagging the channels with "mqm" on the MCAUSER. Since only trusted people
would have the partner exit on their side, and only trusted people would
know the ID / Password combos to get thru the Exit, and access to the
servers is restricted, I would think this would secure MQExplorer functions
while at the same time not requiring me to keep a current list of valid IDs
in the mqm group on every server.

As for everything, the rate/price is determined by the market.
It will fluctuate depending on the supply and demand.
It the current market rate is $ 25-30, so be it. I think it is time to

$25-30 is reasonable for an MQ Admin

Current market rates are

$30 MQ Admin
$35 MQ Developer
$40 WMQI/MQWF
$45-50 MQ and WMQI and MQWF and WAS Project Leader/Architect

There are companies that will pay more but if a contract gets out to the
agencies then the rates drop especially when you are not dealing with the
prime agent

I did the WMQ distributed debugging course recently, not the zOS version.
It didn't go into any internals. I would recommend it for people fairly
new
to MQ, the alternative is to get a few years? experience with the product.

MQ330 class

2003-04-01 Thread Warren Betty
Hi, listers,
For those who have taken WebSphere MQ debugging techniques (z/os) MQ330,
what is your
comment or opinion about this class? Does the instructor go into internal
logic and structure about MQ?
Is it worth taking for either junior or senior MQ administrator?
As always, appreciate your valuable inputs.

MC74 and MQ version 5.3

We use MC74 to support our MQ version 5.2 instances that use Microsoft

know if there will be an update to MC74 to support MQ version 5.3?

Make WMQ for z/os to use z/os logstream instead of its own log data set.

Re: MQexam questions

2002-11-11 Thread Warren
I agree. There were quite a few questions that jumped from platform to
platform.

Honestly, though... if you were studying for the 095 test... I'd have to
say that if you get almost all the sample exam questions correct AND you
can honestly explain WHY your correct answers are correct, then you'll
likely pass it.

Tejinder Good luck with the exam. The trial questions will give you
a bit of a hint about what to expect in the real exam. Unfortunately IBM
doesn't offer much else in the way of preparation. A bit of a lack of
customer support if you ask me. Oh ... be warned ... hopefully when you
sit the exam they won't go and change the pass mark on you. What was
stated in the student workshop notes and by the lecturer was not what was
then required to pass the exam. Almost grounds for a common law appeal???
 Maybe?

Bobbee sheesh mate if you know guys who can pass that exam with only
class experience then hang on to them!! That was one bloody hard exam in
my book. Almost too hard for an Administrator's role (which is basically
what the Specialist Certification is aimed at) as IBM seems to expect the
MQ Administrator to also be a developer and an architect as well. Gee at
my site we have whole teams of people just for those specific purposes.
The certification is directed to a "small-shop" mentality I feel where one
person does many roles. And yet MQSeries really comes into its own -
gains superstar status if you will - at big sites. Yeah yeah I know and
accept all the arguments that having an overall knowledge of the total
concepts of a product is good (and preferable) but this is the first and
only certification I've come across where you cannot pass unless you are
'expert' in many fields beyond the scope of the certification. Which is
ironic considering that IBM also offers further certification that is
directed specifically at architects. Oh well I'll just keep plugging away
and continue to hope that I maintain my earning capabilities until that
far off distant day when I can finally afford to retire :)

The base rule here is if you get an 85 or better on the practise exam you
will probably pass the real exam. The reason it is usually is a good idea
to
have some real life experience is that they, IBM, actually put 'MUCHO'
thought into designing the questions for the test. When you take the test
there will be times where all the answere are or seem true. This is where
'book-only' knowledge will lead you down the merry path. Experience will
tell you that although you can issue that command or you can set up a
server/cluster that way.WHY WOULD YOU! I know people who have passed
the
test given just classes and MANY who have not. It's your money.

As you point out AMQSXRMA is a sample. As such it was expected that people
running the sample would prefer a message written to the screen rather than
hidden away in some error log somewhere. This does presuppose though that
your channels are running in a command window eg. runmqchl.

In the general case though channel exits should not assume that STDOUT or
STDIN are pointing anywhere meaningful. In many cases they point to the
NULL device for reasons I won't go into. If you deploy an exit in
production I would expect it to write it's error messages to a 'well-known'
place, usually an error file, the syslog or NT event log or similar.

P.

Re: AIX runmqlsr problem

2002-09-04 Thread Warren

Erik,

It seems that your MQ listener either might be done via inetd or not
"installed" at all. If the inetd method is used, you will not see an entry
on the machine's process list (i.e. "ps" command and the "runmqlsr" process).

Take a look at your /etc/inetd.conf file and see if there are references to
MQSeries. This should key you off as to whether the listening facility is
"installed" or not. Also, if an entry in /etc/inetd.conf must be added,
make sure that you do a "refresh -s inetd" after you edit the file. An
example of what the entry in /etc/inetd.conf should look like, refer to the
MQSeries Getting Started guide.

The entry in /etc/inetd.conf might look something like:
MQSeries stream tcp nowait mqm /usr/lpp/mqm/bin/amqcrsta amqcrsta -m

Just for your information, the first entry, "MQSeries" will (or should)
match an entry in the /etc/services file. Port number usage can be
controlled by the matching entry in the /etc/services file.

For all you know, it could be that your queue manager listener could
already be running and you never knew it.

Re: New to AIX

2002-09-04 Thread Warren

Based on some of the answers regarding the listener...

Does WebSphere MQ version 5.3 support inetd-based listeners like previous
versions? If so, and if the administrator chooses to use the inetd way to
listen, it should be noted that the "runmqlsr" process will not be listed
in the process list and thus the port number will be controlled by the
/etc/services file.

Sample Java Code

2002-06-20 Thread Warren

Probably a simple question for everyone...

I downloaded a nifty Java sample program (called MQAttr.java) from one of
sites that carry these.

Anyways, I've installed (to my knowledge) everything needed to compile and
run the program like all the basic Java compnents and the Java support
files for MQSeries (by the way, this is for the Win 2k platform).

Upon trying to compile the program (using "javac MQAttr.java), I get two
errors like the following:
-
mqattr.java:24: Package com.ibm not found in import.
import com.ibm.mq.*;
^
mqattr.java:26: Public class MQAttr must be defined in a file called
"MQAttr.java".
public class MQAttr
---

I've checked and double checked my CLASSPATH variable and even went as for
as copying the "jar" files in question to known Java library directories in
the CLASSPATH and it still gives me the same error.

What am I missing here?

What is an easy way to tell which CSD level your currently installed on
MQSeries for Windows 2000?
