I added a second userid (mqmoper) to group mqm. I tried executing a process from this userid and the process hangs on the MQCONN. I execute the same process from the mqm userid, and it runs fine. I've seen this behavior before, and it usually traces back to permissions. If permissions do work on the group level, shouldn't userid mqmoper have the same MQ access rights as userid mqm ? I do a dspmqaut on both userid's and they're identical. Thanks

Re: Resolved: Windows 2000 Server and CSD07 problem
I know using the MQPINUSEOK flag didn't work for me. E.g.: U200212A.exe -a MQPINUSEOK=1 Then you only need to reboot once and you don't have to worry about anything else. Manual labor aside, there is one other potential problem with renaming files. When the CSD gets installed the old files are backed up, so that you can revert to the previous level if you need to. (Although in the past seven years I never had to do that :) The renamed files won't get backed up, so you have to manually move them into the backup directory and change their name back to the original. After we reach a certain load on the machine where the applications and MQ run, MQ starts returning error code 2009 to any MQI call. XA configuration with Oracle
Passing this question on from a coworker. In 2003 I unsuccessfully attempted to configure WebSphere MQ 5.3 to serve as the XA transaction manager coordinating transactions with an Oracle 9i database, both running on Windows2000 Server. After much trial and error, I concluded that the XA switch file, supplied by IBM to be used with JDBC, did not support connections to Oracle 9i. IBM support sent me the following explanation: MQ can act as a transaction manager to Oracle 9 (as a resource manager) using non-JDBC XA- interface protocol. Additional JTA support for JDBC protocol is planned to be added in a forthcoming MQ service delivery targeted for 1Q04 timeframe. . Therefore the existing xa switch file cannot currently be used with Oracle 9. However future support is planned. . Does anyone know whether the JDBC switch file for use with Oracle 9 is now available? How about for Oracle 10g? Re: Sender Channel issues
Where exactly is the MQ clustering? -Original Message- From: W Samuel [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, April 19, 2004 11:58 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Sender Channel issues Hello, We've got a scenario where we have 2 queue managers, QMA and QMB QMA is on Windows and QMB is queue manager which is on a AIX 2 node HACMP cluster (configured as Active - Active). QMB data files are on the shared disk visible to both the nodes of the cluster. Data is send from QMA to QMB. The issue we face: Messages build up on the transmission queue on QMA. The sender channel is in a running state however, data is transferred very slowly. Sometimes the restart of the sender channel seems to transfer all the messages on the transmission queue in one go. This situation often happens when a very large number of messages are put on the queue in a few seconds What checks can be done to find the cause of the problem? We've taken mq trace files which on analysis indicate network issues. However, our network team say there are no issues here. Can MQ clustering be a cause for this? Lazy Binding
To enable some BMC functionality I have been asked to disable lazy binding on amqzlaa0_nd. I will include the message from BMC concerning this. My question is what is the effect on doing this? This is on Solaris 5.8 and WMQ 5.3 with CSD04. Arlen Williams EDS Resolution ID: 126225 Type: RESOLUTION Date Entered: 2002-07-15 13:29:19.0 Applicable Products and Versions Product Release Version PATROL for MQ - Operator for Distributed Systems 2.3.01 PATROL for WebSphere MQ for Distributed Systems 4.0.01 Symptom/Question Why can't BMC MQSeries Extensions be enabled on Solaris systems until lazy binding is disabled? Additional Problem or Contact Information Most binary files on Solaris are set up to run with lazy binding enabled. Lazy binding determines when the dynamic loader resolves symbols from shared libraries. The technique of resolving symbols only when they are used and not at startup is called lazy binding. BMC MQSeries Extensions requires immediate binding. If Lazy Binding is not set correctly on Solaris and the Extensions are active, the symptom you will notice is no collection of QStats data. For example, you would see all zeroes in the Queue Stats Report and no last call times. Resolution To disable lazy binding set the environment variable LD_BIND_NOW=on or run the bmcznow utility as root against /opt/mqm/bin/amqzlaa0_nd to shut off lazy binding in that one module. If MQSeries maintenance is applied and the environment variable has not been set the bmcznow utility will have to be executed again. The preferred solution is to run the bmcznow utility as root against /opt/mqm/bin/amqzlaa0_nd to shut off lazy binding in that one module. Alternatively the LD_BIND_NOW environment variable can be set to disable lazy binding for the queue manager process in whatever script that call strmqm. If the environment variable were set system-wide (not recommended) then it would affect other processes. Add the following line to the script that starts the queue manager: LD_BIND_NOW=1 export LD_BINDING_NOW strmqm queue manager name OR Issue the following command to run the bmcznow utility: /opt/BMCS/mq/bin/bmcznow /opt/mqm/bin/amqzlaa0_nd Instructions for managing your mailing list subscription are provided in the Listserv General Users Guide available at http://www.lsoft.com Archive: http://vm.akh-wien.ac.at/MQSeries.archive

WMQ 5.3 Upgrade on Solaris
I am preparing to upgrade WMQ to 5.3 (with CSD06) from 5.2. The 5.2 system has had several CSDs applied. Is there any way to shorten the upgrade procedure for what I believe is the steps that I will need to follow - remove each CSD package in reverse order of it being applied, remove the mq-java package, then remove the mqm package. Removing a CSD package can take awhile because it is restoring what was there before each CSD install. I really think there should be a shortcut for a major upgrade (5.2-5.3) without having to remove each CSD, something like remove all mqm, then do the installs. Any ideas? I looked for the amq.cat in the /opt/mqm ( and also in /var/mqm, just to make sure). But I could not locate any. Then I looked more closely at this and this is what I have found: On a Solaris MQ installation, the amq.cat file is neither placed in /opt/mqm nor in /var/mqm directories. Instead it is placed directly in the /usr/lib/locale/C/LC_MESSAGES. I figured this out from another MQ installation. So, I copied the amq.cat from a good-looking server to the bad-one into the /usr/lib/locale/C/LC_MESSAGES directory. And then it was working just fine. For WMQI, we need to create two soft links in the /usr/lib/locale/C/LC_MESSAGES directory pointing to the catalog files in /opt/wmqi/messages/lang directory. Thank you Matt for leading me in that direction. -Sudheer -Original Message- From: MQSeries List [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Gurney, Matthew Sent: Tuesday, March 16, 2004 3:48 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Copying MQ binaries MQ uses message catalogue files to render internal message codes into human readable format. The message catalogue file is called amq.cat and normally located in /opt/mqm/lib/locale/C/LC_MESSAGES, this will be dependant upon your profile LANG environment value. The new server picked up everything and we were able to start WMQ and WMQI without any problems. Everything looks OK except when a command is executed it would end up giving a mesage like this -- WebSphere MQ was unable to display an error message for message id hexadecimal %6, with inserts %1, %2, %3, %4 and %5. But, the command execution does what it is supposed to do, meaning it executes successfully except showing the above message. Inquire Cluster Queue Attributes
Title: Message We have a situation where sometimes a clustered queue is put disabled and then put enabled on the local definition on the queue manager that is not a repository, but the repository queue manager shows the queue as put disabled. We can do a put disable/put enable or refresh cluster and this will fix it, but only when we notice the problem. This is a serious problem for us. We are trying towrite something to catch this situation, but haven't found a way to MQINQ the attributes (PUT and CLUSQMGR) for a clustered (not local) queue. I suppose we can do a runmqsc and display the qcluster to an output file and parse that, but would rather use MQINQ if possible. Is it possible? We can get the attribute for the local definition, but need to see what the repository thinks is the attribute. Arlen Williams EDS

Re: How to Specify Ethernet Adapter
My problem is this is an MQ cluster repository and the outbound connection is being created dynamically. The remote queue manager is not a repository and it is successfully connecting to the repository, but when the repository tries to create the dynamic channel back to the remote queue manager, it is failing because it is using the wrong port. It would be nice if it was smart enough to use the port that the inbound connection used to come in on for it's connection back. On the other hand if you issue endmqm with the -i parameter (as I did during our test) or the -p parameter then these shared memory and semaphore resources will NOT get cleaned up. That means that the queue manager will end but the resources it used in memory will not get cleaned up. This will happen whether my MDBs are connected or not, which is why it doesn't have anything to do really with MDBs specifically. The problem with this is that when you restart the queue manager it will attempt to acquire new shared memory and semaphore resources, as it normally does. However, if OLD resources are still resident in memory (because they weren't cleaned up during the last MQ shutdown) then it is possible that the current instance of the queue manager (that is starting) might interpret these resources as belonging to processes that are still running. This is why we got the error messages we saw. In most cases the queue manager will start OK even if it finds old resources in memory, but it can encounter the error we saw. The -i switch on the endmqm command means shut down immediately. Do not wait for connected programs to end when they want to (like MDBs). Without that -i switch, we run the risk of our QM shutdown waiting forever for the MDBs to end. This is why I always use the -i switch when ending a QM. At 5.3, there is the undocumented amqiclen command that cleans up these resources. We are testing this command at the end of our shutdown scripts and at the beginning of our startup scripts. It cleans up old memory resources if they are present after a QM has come down, eliminating the problem we saw on subsequent startups. Back to MDBs: I still think we will research the polling interval setting to help MDBs ralize that the QM is gone, as that can only help prevent problems. -Original Message- From: Potkay, Peter M (PLC, IT) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, January 07, 2004 1:22 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Message Driven Beans and FAIL_IF_QUIESCING I don't know. If a JMS object has an IBM specific property (like FAIL_IF_QUIESCING), it will just be ignored by the WL MDB. A WL MDB can check to see if its cached connection to the QM is still valid every X seconds, and if it is not, it can end, throwing an exception to be handling by the container. The restart of that MDB can then be handled in whatever manner is suitable. Meanwhile the QM should be able to end cleanly with no MDB connections that would prevent a clean start up. If I understand it correctly, jms-polling-interval-seconds is what we need to set. This is an optional element that can be declared in the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml deployment descriptor. Typically this is not set, so my thought is that if we actually do set it, it will reach out to the QM every interval and if the Connection is lost, kill the connection and kill the MDB. The issue, if this does work as I am hoping, and kills the connection, is that the Container will then continually poll the QM every interval consuming resources and writing the log. If this occurs over an extended period of time, the log file has the potential to grow to rather large proportions. Not being a JMS expert, I am not 100% sure of this solution, and would like to see it tested, but it seems to make sense, no? -Original Message- From: Christopher Frank [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, January 05, 2004 2:44 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re:

If you install it on your C drive, run the following command: C:\listdlls.exe listdlls_Output.txt This piped all the output to a file that I was then able to do a search on. Looking for the test string MQ, I found that smlogsvc.exe and pdlsvc.exe has MQ dlls open. Process Explorer did not show that these two processes had MQ dlls open. Re: Can't install CSD04 on W2K
I just installed CSD04 and had to stop a JavaRun process that was accessing MQ java files. -Original Message- From: Potkay, Peter M (PLC, IT) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, July 16, 2003 1:57 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Can't install CSD04 on W2K I have done a few. I got quite a problem log going with all the below solutions when it comes to installing CSDs on Windows. Make sure you have no runmq* or amq* processes running in Task Manager. Make sure there are no MQ monitoring tools still running, like Tivoli or QPASA. Make sure Norton Antivirus is off. Make sure the MQServices Icon in the taskbar tray in the lower right hand corner is no longer there. Sometimes you have to even roll your mouse over it to make it disappear after you killed the service! Give all this a couple of minutes to give Windows a chance to clean up internally. And make sure you don't do the following, which I wasted an hour on last night when I did it! Create a folder ../WebSphere MQ/CSD04 Put the CSD04 .exe file in this folder. When it asks you where to extract the install files, you pick the same folder. When it asks you where to install CSD04, you pick the same folder. If you do this, you will get the MQ in use error! Some sort of loop I guess. Download, extract and install into 3 different folders. -Original Message- From: Jeffrey Ross [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, July 16, 2003 2:45 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Can't install CSD04 on W2K Hello, Has anybody had any problems installing CSD04 on W2K? The receiving end points are sometimes connected with a simple Dial-Up connection. Is someone familiar with a way in MQSeries to resume a receive for a message if the connection fails in the middle of the receive process and continue to load just the portion of the message that was not read yet? Today, we need to receive the whole message all over again. Is there a product that supports this feature in MQSeries? Did someone encounter this problem and found a solution for it? Re: Where are security violations logged on VAX/VMS?
Does the account AWERBUCH exist on the VMS server and is authorized to access that QM since that is the account you are telling it to use for access? -Original Message- From: David Awerbuch [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, July 03, 2003 1:25 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Where are security violations logged on VAX/VMS? Justin, I stand corrected, and do apologize for my erroneous statement, it seems that the docs are available online. I guess it never occured to me to look in the 'previous' editions list for a product that is still considered 'current' and supported. Thanks for the clarification. As to my original question ... I checked my Queue manager, I have all events enabled. There is only 1 message in S.A.QMGR.EVENT queue. I don't have a tool to interpret it (Paul's MQMONNTP doesn't seem to support 2.2.1, ), but all my other QMs have a single, QM startup event in that queue, so I am guessing that's what it is. I don't see any other events (auth or otherwise) in that queue. I am running 2.2.1 EC09 on VAX/VMS. Dave A. --- Justin Fries [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: David, The System Management Guide for MQSeries v2.2.1 for OpenVMS VAX is still available. For example, the MQSeries Application Programming Guide (publication SC33-0807-09) lists MQSeries for Digital OpenVMS as one of the v2 platforms to which it applies. Authorization errors are normal in the same sense that MQRC_NO_MSG_AVAILABLE is a normal error. MQ just returns a 2035 to the application and takes no further action. By way of contrast, if MQ failed to authorize a user because of an unexpected error in the product, or because of a problem with the operating system, it would probably write one or more error log messages and FDCs. The best way to analyze authorization errors is to enable authorization events on the queue manager using 'ALTER QMGR AUTHOREV(ENABLED)' in runmqsc. The MQSeries Programmable System Management book (available at the third URL given above) contains a description of authorization events and how to interpret them. In essence, every 2035 error will generate a message showing who failed authorization and for which object. Cheers, Justin T. I have already changed the MCAUSER() on the SVRCONN channel to be both uppercase 'AWERBUCH' and lowercase 'awerbuch' (my NT4 userid), to no avail. I am getting RC=2035 (Not Authorized). Re: Failover in a Hub-spoke model???
After getting nowhere with the IBM WMQ support center on this paper. Does anyone have it in softcopy and can send it to me? All support could point me to is the Systems Administration manual and the WebSphere MQ Help Center (which is almost the same thing). Ruzi, If you are at WMQ 5.3 and will be using Microsoft clustering, contact the IBM WMQ support center for the Beginners guide to setting up MSCS paper. It's easier to install clustering from this paper than the WMQ Systems Administration manual. Also, if you will be using SSL channel security, call and talk to the support center regarding the installation of the certificate. Ruzi, that is exactly how we do it over here. We have 2 servers. The Hub QM primarily runs on ServerA at LocationA. ServerB at LocationB has the another Hub queue manager that is inactive and named exactly the same as the QM on ServerA at LocationA. If ServerA crashes, Microsoft clustering / Veritas move the resources from ServerA to ServerB. The IP address floats as well, so all your spoke channels will go into retry during the failover and automatically start up once the Hub QM is started up on ServerB. There is no need for manual intervention. There is no need for MQ clustering the hub QMs. Only one is ever active at a time. The only messages you lose are non persistence ones that happen to be on the HubQM at the exact moment of failure. The failover takes anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes. When our MQSI boxes failover (seperate servers and Queue Managers), the failover takes about 5 to 10 minutes, because it takes that much longer to bring up the broker on the other side. If you are prior to MQ5.3, you will need support pac MC74. -Original Message- From: Ruzi R [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, June 27, 2003 12:11 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Failover in a Hub-spoke model??? Hi all, Suppose the qmgrs QM1 and QM2 are clustered (both full repositories) to serve as a hub. And the all the other qmgrs (spokes) are connected to this hub (thru channels to QM1). QM1 and QM2 are mirror images of each other. If something goes wrong with the QM1 it should preferably automatically fail-over to QM2. I don t think there is an automatic fail-over in this case as the channels from the spokes explicitly have to point to QM2 requiring manual intervention. How do people switch from QM1 to QM2? How to achieve the automatic fail-over (from QM1 to QM2)? Is the solution to use MS clustering (along with the MQ clustering) on the hub? Also, I remember reading a very well written document recently on how MQSeries clustering works with MS clustering, but I cannot find it. Does anyone have the link?
