Correct, I switched from a dual 19" LCD setup to a single 27" LCD setup. But 0.31 has been revealed to be still too small grain. And me still can't get what my eyes suffer from - too much contrast against environnment, or too much brightness (really the least workable level is appox 30%), or stroboscopic effect of PWM backlight (disappers at approx 75% wich is too high even in daylight). So, Your proposal "http://justgetflux.com/"; loks quite promisable. Re: [MSEide-MSEgui-talk] About xrender and stretched bitmaps + EXA + Linux issues
Hi The true problem is the artifacts when using EXA acceleration. I'm not going to use VESA son I didn't want to waste time investigating why it detected and dropped the true monitor resolution and fall to 1024x768. As I said it was probably because no xorg.con supplied and this will be fixes setting the proper modeline in xorg.conf. This was a try when using nouveau.modeset=0 to avoid KMS. For some ATI cards, when you use radeon.modeset=0 it drops EXA and uses XAA and all is fine. You have MSEide working and your radeon card uses hardware acceleration. To make NOUVEAU working, you have to drop HW acceleration for the moment. If you are lucky and your nvidia card is working fine with nvidia propietary drivers.. then you can use it. From my experience some nvidia cards + propietary drivers = nightmare. The bug has been reported, only left to wait :) Thanks. -- Julio Jiménez Borreguero -- LIMITED TIME SALE - Full Year of Microsoft Training For Just $49.99! 1,500+ hours of tutorials including VisualStudio 2012, Windows 8, SharePoint 2013, SQL 2012, MVC 4, more. VESA, UVESA & KMS (DRM based) Nouveau/Radeon disallow any h/w accelarating but simpliest area copying in rare cases. With modern hardware, they can be considered as deep fallbacks. Graeme, it seem that You had to switch to a large LED backlight monitor (27 inches me guess). How did You tune its backlight & brightness level so that your eyes feel comfortable ? Me still can't adopt to LED backlight of my monitor with its 200 Hz PWM backlignt regulator. 2013/9/21 Sieghard > Hallo Graeme, > > Du schriebst am Fri, 20 Sep 2013 13:57:45 +0100: > > > > If Julio runs Linux, which he probabely does, it is quite possible that > > > the VESA driver doesn't support all the built-in firmware > ... > > Nope, I installed X11 via FreeBSD's ports system (from source code). Nope, I installed X11 via FreeBSD's ports system (from source code). The FreeBSD ports system downloads the source code directly from the people that create each port. In this case the servers of X.Org. So the VESA driver I'm running should be the exact same source code and driver used under all X11 systems (Linux included). The probably difference is that I use a xorg.conf file to specify exactly what I want, because I know what hardware I have. I don't leave it up to chance and let the X11 software _try and detect_ what I have. I run the X11 VESA > driver here, under FreeBSD 9.1 and my resolution is 2560x1440 ^^^ This might be the reason, there _are_ differences between the systems. If Julio runs Linux, which he probabely does, it is quite possible that the VESA driver doesn't support all the built-in firmware functionality, as it is mainly provided as a fallback if nothing else is available. It may be that FreeBSD relies much more on the higher level support of graphics cards (such as the VESA functions), while Linux tries to get closer to the "real" hardware, in hope to achieve some more performance. Trade off here is that Linux takes longer and is somewhat more restricted in what it supports. About xrender and stretched bitmaps + EXA + Linux issues
I got it working fine using nouveau driver too.. just had to disable thee hw acceleration. I added to xorg.conf Section "Device" Identifier "Nouveau" Driver "nouveau" Option "NoAccel" "on" EndSection Like for EXAPixmaps "off" there is a performance penalization, but this is better than nothing and the affected computers are used for work only :D So it seems the issue is related to graphics acceleration, not only EXA. [MSEide-MSEgui-talk] About xrender and stretched bitmaps + EXA + Linux issues
Hi all! After several years, it seems that the problem still persists. My observations: ATI AMD proprietary fglrx graphics driver: all is fine. NVIDIA propietary graphics driver: all is fine Radeon xorg driver: using EXA is fine if you disable EXAPixmaps. If you do not use EXA is ok too.(Of course you suffer a performance degrading) NOUVEAU: The only computer I have tested, with a GeForce 8400 GS.. a total headache. (using skins with bitmaps, fades...) In computers with this problem, you can run MSEIDE with -ns option and all is mostly fine but if you click in a fileselection component (like MSE config dialog) you still see artifacts even with no skin option (-ns) do these components use fades/skins...? I wonder why other toolkits like Gtk2, Cairo, Qt don't show this problem. Perhaps they use their own implementation for stretched bitmaps.. dunno. I would like to know how other MSE users deal with this issue. Re: [MSEide-MSEgui-talk] About xrender and stretched bitmaps + EXA + Linux issues
There are lots of reports about EXA issues. I can fill a bug report, but probably you are more indicated to do it. You know how MSE interact with xrender in deep ;) About NOUVEAU xorg driver... I'm unable to make it working properly. Not using skins is a temporal solution, but still getting issues. You can try it enabling EXAPixmaps in radeon (IIRC you have ATI card). run MSEide with -ns option, open Configure MSEide dialog... do click in filenameedit widgets.. you'll see graphics corruption of just a gray rectangle filling the widget... That's why asked if these widgets use skins or fades... 2013/9/18 Martin Schreiber > On Wednesday 18 September 2013 18:16:58 Julio Jiménez wrote: > > > > I wonder why other toolkits like Gtk2, Cairo, Qt don't show this problem. > > Perhaps they use their own implementation for stretched bitmaps.. dunno. > > > Because the X11 driver devels test there work with the mainstream toolkits. > > > I would like to know how other MSE users deal with this issue. > > > Somebody should make bug reports at freedesktop.org. > I tried to find workarounds for Radeon in MSEgui, no success. > > Martin > > > -- > LIMITED TIME SALE - Full Year of Microsoft Training For Just $49.99! > 1,500+ hours of tutorials including VisualStudio 2012, Windows 8, > SharePoint > 2013, SQL 2012, MVC 4, more.
