Sorry, you'll need a backup. If your backup is not recent enough and you
have a binary log (e.g. for replication), you can use that log to restore
the database state.

Any idea how phpOpenTracker might trigger this?

I'm getting an error with create table, appears that field names
cannot have the underscore character. Is this correct? It would be
quite fatal for us, as we need some sort of delimeter character, so we
can group variables by instrument.

You have an error in your SQL syntax near 'A2DEE1_RWO FLOAT(1),

Setting root password

2003-06-14 Thread John Utting
Hi,

I have installed MySQL v4.0.13 on a Win2K machine. the installation
directory is C:\mysql

I've installed it as a service using 'mysqld-nt -install' and the service is
running.

I've checked to se that it is working using 'mysqlshow', 'mysqlshow mysql'
'mysqladmin version status proc'. All seems to be fine.

I have deleted the anonymous user with the following commands :
C:mysql\bin\mysql
use mysql
delete from user where User='';
quit
C:mysql\bin\mysqladmin reload

The problem is when I set the root password using the following command:
C:mysql\bin\mysqladmin -u root password my_password

Although this sets a password for the root user when I enter the following

C:mysql\bin\mysqladmin -u root -p reload

I am then prompted for a password, but when I enter it I receive the
following error:

mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Access denied for user: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' (Using password: YES)'

My PC is connected to a server and gets its IP address via DHCP. Is this
part of the problem?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

John.

If your database doesn't have InnoDB table you can take down MySQL server, rename
database directory and start the server.

You can also make dump of the database and then rectore tables to another database.

You seem to have an odd set of goals.

First, you want to remove the password from your MySQL root account.
That is, you want to remove the protection against unauthorized access.
Next, you want to keep people from getting to it without a password.

newbie q: creating a user

2003-06-14 Thread David Shochat
This must be a very elementary question. I am a brand new user. I was able to set the root password and can connect as root with no problem. I created a database named remembrance. Where I got stuck was when I tried creating a user. I tried to do it this way (as root):

grant all on remembrance.* to david identified by '...';

(I put the password instead of ...).

Then I quit and tried:

mysql -u david -p

It prompted me for a password, but when I typed in the same password I had used in the grant command above, it was rejected. If I do:

mysql -u david

I get in fine (but oddly it does not prompt me for a password) but it then does not let me 'use remembrance'. I tried doing the grant again, this time using [EMAIL PROTECTED], but that didn't work either. In fact, it put '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' in the User column of the user table (I expected it to put 'david' in the User column and 'localhost' in the Host column).

What am I doing wrong?
This is 3.23.54a which was included in RedHat Linux 9.

root):

grant all on remembrance.* to david identified by '...';

(I put the password instead of ...).

Then I quit and tried:

mysql -u david -p

It prompted me for a password, but when I typed in the same password
I had used in the grant command above, it was rejected. If I do:

mysql -u david

I get in fine (but oddly it does not prompt me for a password) but
it then does not let me 'use remembrance'. I tried doing the grant
again, this time using [EMAIL PROTECTED], but that didn't work either.
In fact, it put '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' in the User column of the user
table (I expected it to put 'david' in the User column and
'localhost' in the Host column).
This indicates that in the GRANT statement, you typed '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'
rather than 'david'@'localhost' (the username and hostname should be
quoted separately). Try it again with them quoted separately and the
problem should go away.
It will also go away if you delete the anonymous user accounts:

% mysql -p -u root mysql
Enter password: (root password here)
mysql DELETE FROM user WHERE User = '';
mysql FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

What am I doing wrong?
This is 3.23.54a which was included in RedHat Linux 9.

I think I have figured out what he wants:

He wants to set a root password (randomly) and then save it in
~root/.my.cnf so that the root user doesn't (apparently) need a password
to log into MySQL.

However, any other user trying to log in as root would need to know the
password.

Am I close?

You seem to have an odd set of goals.

First, you want to remove the password from your MySQL root account.
That is, you want to remove the protection against unauthorized access.
Next, you want to keep people from getting to it without a password.

If you changed it to have no root password, you need to edit the
config.inc.php file in your phpmyadmin directory. Get rid of the
password there.

With that being said, why would you want an empty root password

Re: Impossible query??

2003-06-14 Thread Becoming Digital
Your query seems relatively easy if you don't need the first test (in this case,
testID 2) explicitly printed.

mysql SELECT * FROM tests WHERE testID=7 AND connect0;
+-+--+--+
| testId | connect | result |
+-+--+--+
| 7 | 6| ok |
| 6 | 4| nok |
| 4 | 3| nok |
| 3 | 2| nok |
+-+--+--+

The history of testID 2 is implied by your table structure, such that you know
testID 2 passed because it is the last connect value.

The problem I see with this occurs when you have a repeating data set. A
query for your next failure (after testID 7) will also return testID 7 and its
history, as would be the case with the below data. Repairing this would require
adding an additional parameter to the WHERE statement, probably using BETWEEN.
+-+--+--+
| testId | connect | result |
+-+--+--+
| 1 | 0| ok |
| 2 | 0| nok |
| 3 | 2| nok |
| 4 | 3| nok |
| 5 | 0| ok |
| 6 | 4| nok |
| 7 | 6| ok |
| 8 | 0| ok |
| 9 | 0| nok |
| 10 | 9| nok |
| 11 | 10 | ok |
+-+--+--+

Hi, sorry for my bad english.

I've a table where i store the result of a quality test.
If the test is passed then the result=ok and connect=0
If test fail then result=nok and, if it's the first test for the

When i retest a failed product i've connect= previous testid of the

It's possible to do a query for print the history of one id??

Exemple

| 8 | 0| ok |
+-+--+--+

I want the history of testId=7
mysql ??

+-+--+--+
| testId | connect | result |
+-+--+--+
| 7 | 6| ok |
| 6 | 4| nok |
| 4 | 3| nok |

selecting DISTINCT and COUNT in MySQL

2003-06-14 Thread Tim Thorburn
Hi,

I'm setting up a small tracking program for a site I'm working on -
basically it monitors all external web and email links that are clicked
from our site and stores them into a MySQL database.

Now I'm trying to extract the information from the database and display it
on screen with PHP. I've made a query which reads:
SELECT DISTINCT trEmail FROM db-name;

This clearly selects all the distinct email addresses from my table, but I
would like to put a count beside each of the distinct addresses to show how
many times each link was clicked.

For example, I'd like it to look something like the following:

email address # sent
[EMAIL PROTECTED] 12
Meaning that the email addresses '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' was clicked a total of 12
times.

I'm thinking there should be a way to do this with a single SQL query ...
although after most of the day of trying and searching google - I've come
up with nothing but a headache.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
-Tim

howto store files in mysql

record. anyone know how to do that or the url of the manuel which

methinks you have other troubles. i've been running MySQL on K6II-266 for
a long time and its been running fine serving up several databases with
multiple users. 512MB of RAM currently but it had only 128 until
recently. Its running Linux (RedHat 7.2). I recently switched to 4.03,
but it had been running 3.23.nn for quite some time with no difficulties.
I recently upgraded the machine to a K6II-500. I also have another
machine running a Duron 1GHz along with DNS and Sendmail its also working
quite nicely.

Re: soft real-time database

2003-06-14 Thread Curtis Maurand

If you have the sgi_fam, you could place a file in a directoy everytime
you add a row. the sgi_fam module would inform your app that there was a
change on the filesystem. When the notification is made, your app can
then get the new value from the database.

I believe that one user suggested that you have a status flag for a row.
Your app could reset the flag when it retrieves the row.

record_status enum(0,1);

$time = select now() from table;
select * from table where record_status = 1;
update records set status = 0 where timestamp_column  $time;

Not the same machine as the server. Could either be a windows or

Sorry for not being clearer. I can get the data into the database
fine. Assuming new values or rows are added once per second, how
would a client program go about polling the database to see when a new
value was ready? Check # of rows for a column and when it's
incremented grab the latest value?

If you mean a file as in an image or other binary data, you need to use a BLOB
field.

Subject: howto store files in mysql

I need to store a file as mysql record. I assume I use the text variable
but have no idea how to read the file into the mysql record.

Please note I am not reading a file to a table - so not the LOAD DATA
INFILE function but a means of storeing the contents of a file as a
record. anyone know how to do that or the url of the manuel which
explains it.

thanks

HELP!!! permissions not working!

2003-06-14 Thread Timothy Waters
I've been messing around making very simple web pages using PHP and connecting
to a MySQL database. I've tried using different users to connect and
different grants, but so far the ONLY user that can connect through these
pages is root, and we all know that isn't cool. I've done grant all on * to
someuser identified by 'somepass'; and it STILL won't even log into MySQL
using the command line! I'm totally in the dark on this one. Any clues?

RE: PHP, MYSQL and persistant authentication

2003-06-14 Thread Daevid Vincent
Use sessions in PHP (super simple, just call session_start() at the top
of every page i.e. like in an include file) and use
$_SESSION['loginname']

I would strongly recommend using mod_auth_mysql for your authentication.
It's easy and probably more secure than anything you can write ;-) Plus
it lets users bookmark pages without you having to handle that sort of
thing.

 Hi,
Does anyone know of a good tutorial on setting up a login
 page, and passing
the login primary key to other pages so that other tables
 will be able to
 refernce the unique login

Question about INSERT vs UPDATE

2003-06-14 Thread Shane Bryldt
Hello,

I am new to the list, so pardon me if I am on the wrong one posting my question.
If so, please direct me to the right place.

My question is in regards to the efficiency of INSERT statements. I have gone over
some of the optimizations, and on a machine running the client and MySQL 4 server,
DELETEing a table and repopulating it with ~48k records via INSERT, I have come to the
conclusion that, regardless of hardware, the delay will be too significant (on a test
machine it ran about 25 seconds).
What I am curious to know, is whether there is a significant increase if I switch
my method of saving from a complete memory dump, to a partial memory dump. The
overhaul involved would require a lot of code restructuring. The situation is this,
approximately 10k of those 48k records are actually modified regularily. If I
overhaul the code to indicate when a record needs to be updated, or inserted, and only
call the appropriate action, is the performance going to be significantly better?
Keeping in mind it would have to search the 48k records to UPDATE the 10k modified
records, as well as potentially INSERT new records (very few if any).
With 48k records, is updating 10k records faster than simply deleting and
reinserting every record?

Alternatively, is there any way speeding up the INSERT time can be achieved?
First, I am using the default format, I believe is MyISAM. Second, I have used table
locking to optimize writing before the table is deleted and repopulated, and unlocked
after all records are inserted. Third, I am using multiple INSERT lists (of 1000
records inserted at a time). Whether the lists is with 100, or 1000, I get about the
same results of 25 seconds. I realize the hardware I am using is not significantly
powerful, but I think there is some optimization I could make. Can you preallocate a
definite number of rows for a large insert operation?

Any assistance would be appreciated, this project is flexible towards new ideas to
make the dumping more efficient. The alternative has been considered to use a method
of UPDATEing records immediately when changes are made in memory. Transaction
overhead could become an issue however, with 10k+ records actively changing at any
given time. With an UPDATE method, dumping frequently may actually reduce the time
required for the process, since it would update fewer records.

Anyone with some insight on this would be much appreciated if they could offer some
ways to speed up the process.

Thanks,
-Shane
