Hi!

The above is a frequent error on Solaris and our manual finely
documents how to circumvent it.

However, I would recommend you to download our binary for SPARC
Solaris 2.8 as they are regularly built.

It is possible, but not that easy, to make the binaries of the same
quality that we obtain. Using our binary, you will be much safer.

Re: rpm install error

2001-09-19 Thread powlow

its actually not an installation problem. just starting the server.

if i try to run mysqld (not safe-mysqld) i get this message :

linux:/var/lib/mysql # mysqld
Fatal error: Please read Security section of the manual to find out how to
run mysqld as root!
010919 12:35:58 Aborting

010919 12:35:58 mysqld: Shutdown Complete

i'm looking at the manual now. any comments on this. some stuff seems to be
owned by mysql, some by root...

uname -a

Does it show kernel 2.2.14? If yes, upgrade the kernel. SuSE introduced a

coredump right away. They got rid of it it later versions.

And while I am on the subject - we are aware of an I/O bug in 2.2.14 kernel (
even without the special safety patch from SuSE) that make MySQL corrupt
tables under heavy load. Two of our users were running 2.2.14 kernel and were
getting their tables randomly corrupted. The problems went away after upgrade
to 2.2.10.

So if you are running 2.2.14 SuSE kernel, you have two reasons to upgrade.

No, that is not the same problem. You were getting a segfault. If it cannot
find datadir, start debugging the start-up script - read the error log then
go from there.

 Hey Sasha -

Thanks for mentioning this. We started running MySQL 3.23.33 on a 2.2.14
kernel (RH 6.2) about six months ago. Almost immediately we started
experiencing table corruption. We have consistently been having 2 or 3
tables get corrupted a month ever since. I've been scratching my head
trying to figure out what the heck I've been doing wrong or what has been
the cause, but I think you just answered my question. Looks like I'll be
 upgrading my kernel soon!

Glad to hear the confirmation from another user. Thanks for reporting this.

Install error

2001-09-03 Thread Mike

Using RH 7 after a Plain setup I tried to install the rpm's version 37
through 39 with the same error. Not a valid RPM. I tried both Gnome RPM
and the command line with the same results. The tar file gave me Child -
Error unrecoverable - exiting now.I moved the files and tried again same
results so it's not permisions.

I thought mabey my install was corrupte, plus I am bored, and reinstalled
RH7, and got the same errors.I never had any issues before on this box
with RH7 and MySQL.

I tried other RPM's I needed for this LAMP install, PHP , Apache and they
installed fine, but I need MySQL installed first so I'll redo them later.

Re: Install error

2001-09-03 Thread Tony Bibbs

you using 7.0 or 7.1. If 7.0 try grabbing the rpms from the 7.1 image and
see if that works.

make install error 1

2001-05-16 Thread Philip Andrzejewski

I have encountered many problems during the downloading, unpacking and
installating of MySQL, some of my own making and some that I can't
determine. After two days of searching in the Documentation at mysql.com
and reading of the Archival files, I turn to you, since I cannot find an
answer to my problem. I am loading 'source distribution' version
mysql-3.23.38 for Solaris 2.7. I have ran 'configure' and 'make'. I was
in the process of running 'make install' when I received the following
message:

make[2]: *** [install-benchSCRIPTS] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr2/mysql/mysql-3.23.38/sql-bench'
make[1]: *** [install-am] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr2/mysql/mysql-3.23.38/sql-bench'
make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1

I read where error messages are located in the 'hostname'.err file. No
file was created for this error. Now the questions:
1) Where do I find an error log that defines these Error 1 and
Error 2 messages?
2) Since I would like to run benchmark testing, how do I correct
these errors?
3) I am not one that likes to bug others, outside of the Archives,
Documentation and email lists, is there any other area I can use as
resource (an FAQ page, perhaps)?

Thanks,
Phil
