Re: [mythtv-users] recording a specific episode anytime?
Matthew Watson wrote: I too would like to see a Find and record one episode option for scheduling recordings. I realize I am probably in the minority here, but I enjoy watching shows such as Modern Marvels and History's Mysteries on The History Channel. Because the subjects of the shows vary greatly (from Tanks to Nature's Engineers), I don't want to record every single episode (sometimes 7+ per day). Currently, every two weeks I go through the upcoming episodes and mark the ones I want as Record only this showing, even though each episode may have 2 or 3 air times. I then have to go back through all the marked episodes and manually correct conflict problems (i only have one input source, fun fun). I think you're doing this sub-optimally. Instead of Record only this showing, choose Find and record one showing (it's called something like that), so if Tanks is showing 3 times over the next 2 weeks, it can pick any one of them. I do this all the time for recording weekend movies and PBS documentaries (granted, there are not multiple broadcasts of network movies, but PBS documentaries are usually broadcast a few times). Much easier to browse the two weeks for the few you want, instead of deselecting the 30 you don't want ... --Rob signature.asc Description: Digital signature ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

[mythtv-users] What is adding channels to my DVB setup ?
I have configured my MythTV box with a DVICO Fuson HDTV DVB card that is working a treat with an VIA MII 1 board. But for some reason after about a week of running, all the other channels in a multiplex start appearing in my epg. In australia most of the commericical stations have 3-4 channels but they are are duplicates. So to reduce clutter, I never added them. But something is adding them, and I want to find out what it is and kill it. Does mythtv detect extra channels on the digital mutiplexed broadcast and add them automatically ? I'm sick of deleting them from my channels config. I'm sure this feature would be great for most people, but it is highly annoying at the moment. Re: [mythtv-users] recording a specific episode anytime?
Is there a way to get myth to record a specific episode (title and subtitle must match) but let it choose which showing to record (in order to accommodate other recordings)? Bruce Markey [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: None of the rule types look at the subtitle for a match. The only way to do so is to use a search rule that will specifically look Ok, that's what I originally thought. I often find I want to record a specific episode of a show, but don't care when it gets recorded, and I suspect others might like to do this sometimes. If any developers are following, do you think a patch that adds a FindOneEpisode recording rule would be accepted? Any pointers for where to start digging? (I'm not promising that I'll do it, but I'll try...) I think this was solved earlier this week when Brad Templeton launched hos new TVWish program on this mailing list. This lets you tell MythTV to records specific episodes of programs whenever it sees them in the program guide. You can list one or many episodes for as many programs as you like. So between the two of them I feel very confident in receiving my money. I actually just got two emails last week confirming my rebate requests for a drive I bought not to long ago - one from each company, and my rebate requests were done by mail, not electronically. I never get email confirmations from other places. Anyway, the last 4 or 5 hard drives I've bought have all been WD drives that I got from rebates, and I have received my money every time without a single hassle. I for one will continue to buy these drives. They have worked (and are all still working) wonderful for me, and I've gotten them all at killer prices. On the other hand, I got screwed by Frys on two different products that I purchased on the same day, with the same reason - I didn't include the original UPC barcode, which is complete BS. But, I didn't follow their recommendation of keeping copies of everything, so I blamed myself mostly. I'm sure calling them up and putting a little pressure on them would've worked too, but oh well. If you just follow the directions and keep copies as proof, they can't deny you the rebate. ~Lou I've heard from several people on other forums that they've called Seagate, WD and others and the CS rep said that it was company policy to deny rebates unless you called and complained. It's a good non-myth frontend and useful as well to test xmame. gxmame is similar to the mame32 GUI for Windows. http://gxmame.sourceforge.net mkdir ~/.xmame cp docs/xmamerc.dist ~/.xmame/xmamerc use your favorite editor to edit ~/.xmame/xmamerc You need to set some paths in the ### Fileio Related ### section rompath /mythtv/games/xmame/roms snapshot_directory. cheat_file/mythtv/games/xmame/cheat.dat hiscore_file/mythtv/games/xmame/hiscore.dat history_file/mythtv/games/xmame/history.dat mameinfo_file/mythtv/games/xmame/mameinfo.dat ... or use gxmame to configure these values and verify them afterwards by editing xmamerc Technically, the best way to do this is to use the default directories as defined at buildtime for xmame and then not hardode the patch in either xmamerc or mythtv now it is time to test XMAME before we attempt to get it running inside MythTV place your ROM in the roms directory you created earlier or the default directory there are plenty of online places to purchase legit ROMs for use with MAME. There are also places that will take your old cartridges and transfer the ROMs to CDs for you. and there are a 3 public domain rom sets avilable here: http://www.mame.net/downmisc.html launch xmame with the classic game of choice, gauntlet for me! xmame.x11 gauntlet NOTE: depending on how you compiled xmame, you could have an xmame.x11 or xmame.SDL or xmame.xgl depending on what graphics toolkits are used. If you have some time, try them and see which one works best for you. I like to symlink xmame to whatever xmame binaries I'm using at the moment, and I like to version the xmame binaries when I update so that I can roll back to a working one if there is any problem or compatibility issue with mythtv. Sometimes, I notice that I need to remove and recreate xmamerc after upgrading xmame since default options change after OK'ing the ownership screen, the info screen and the caveats screen. you can start playing. there are options to disable these that can be set in xmamerc NOTE also, OK can be entered as leftright as well TAB will bring up a OSD, On Screen Display, which will show you the keyboard settings. ~ will help you with the volume ESC will get you out of it. Here's the general basic info you need to know to use xmame from the keyboard: 5 = insert coin 1 = player 1 start arrow keys = movement left control = button 1 left alt = button 2 spacebar = button 3 esc = exit 3. download and place files (artwork/catver.ini/etc..) and screenshots - these are stored in the 'snap' directory with the rest of your mame subdirs (NOTE: you need to tell mythgame about where this directory is in the mythgame config get screenshots from here: http://www.classicgaming.com/mame32qa/ unzip into the snap directory MAME image downloader Huh old? yes.. old Show game infoshow info about the game, ie:year, maker, CPU, sound, screen resolution before staring game for game info , I would delete sorting by year and just use genre ok i still have the following questions. most are pretty basic like what does this file do? 1. while editing ~/.xmame/xmamerc there is an option for a snapshot_directory is this different, or should it be different than the MAME screenshots path in mythgame setup inside mythfrontned. the screenshots in mame historically go into a dir called 'snap' for snapshots 2. I'm confused about all the paths to files and how they are used. such as: a. why is there a hiscores path, and also a hiscore file. per game hiscore files are saved in hiscores directory the hiscores.dat file defines how individual games store their hiscore information so that it can be saved to files in the hiscore directory by xmame b. flyers and cabinets. how are these used? again please excuse the newbie here. Are flyers like movie posters, they show up when browsing? If so then where does that put screenshots? i guess i'm looking for some clarity between the flyers, screenshots, snapshots and cabinets. I found a site that is all arcade flyers http:// www.arcadeflyers.net mythgame doesn't use the flyers and cabinet files

Re: [mythtv-users] Clearing MythMusic database/metadata
Hey Mike, I had some issues with that as well. I'd recommend that you let some program do the file naming for you. I used a couple including itunes, and some freeware rippers. mythmusic needs this structure: /artist/album/song1.mp3 I found rippers that called to CDDB are helpful and can sometimes rename your files for you. if your folder structure is off, it might suck. best luck I had was using rippers that put the mp3s in that structure. for one off mp3s, I had to make sure they followed the structure, even if I did not have the whole album. I also had good look with a ID3 tag editor for files that would not name automatically. a google for ID3 editor will turn up a bunch. last thing I throw out, I just found a CD cover image finder that works well, I'd recommend trying to find one of those as well. -EA On 6/4/05, Mike Geisterfer [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, Started to add the CD's to MythTV - MythMusic, and realized that the freedb database entries can be problematic. I had that issue too. there is a new perl script out that will fix that. on your settings for video, you will see a setting that calls to your imdb.pl file. Thanks for looking over what i wrote. You cleared up a bunch of questions for me. I'll edit what i had and post a second version soon, and then if everything looks ok, i'll suggest incorporating them into the official docs. So, if you're new to MAME, check out http://mameworld.net great site thanks for the link post XMAME install setup download and install gxmame. It's a good non-myth frontend and useful as well to test xmame. gxmame is similar to the mame32 GUI for Windows. http://gxmame.sourceforge.net I'll check it out. again thanks. perhaps i'll roll that into my how to. mkdir ~/.xmame cp docs/xmamerc.dist ~/.xmame/xmamerc use your favorite editor to edit ~/.xmame/xmamerc You need to set some paths in the ### Fileio Related ### section rompath /mythtv/games/xmame/roms snapshot_directory. cheat_file/mythtv/games/xmame/cheat.dat hiscore_file/mythtv/games/xmame/hiscore.dat history_file/mythtv/games/xmame/history.dat mameinfo_file/mythtv/games/xmame/mameinfo.dat ... or use gxmame to configure these values and verify them afterwards by editing xmamerc Technically, the best way to do this is to use the default directories as defined at buildtime for xmame and then not hardcode the patch in either xmamerc or mythtv now it is time to test XMAME before we attempt to get it running inside MythTV place your ROM in the roms directory you created earlier or the default directory ok as for the directories, i was thinking about mythgame in a networked context. figuring a local copy of xmame to run on the frontend, and storing all the ROMs,artwork, etc. on a shared mount. launch xmame with the classic game of choice, gauntlet for me! xmame.x11 gauntlet NOTE: depending on how you compiled xmame, you could have an xmame.x11 or xmame.SDL or xmame.xgl depending on what graphics toolkits are used. If you have some time, try them and see which one works best for you. I like to symlink xmame to whatever xmame binaries I'm using at the moment, and I like to version the xmame binaries when I update so that I can roll back to a working one if there is any problem or compatibility issue with mythtv. Sometimes, I notice that I need to remove and recreate xmamerc after upgrading xmame since default options change good idea, i'll add a step for numbering the binaries and symlinking to xmame. i found i quickly got tired of xmame.x11 and just did a symlink to 'xmame' to save some typing. Your idea will help keep things organized also. after OK'ing the ownership screen, the info screen and the caveats screen. you can start playing. there are options to disable these that can be set in xmamerc NOTE also, OK can be entered as leftright as well i didn't notice this option in xmamerc, but toggeling the checkbox in mythfrontend worked for skipping the nag screen. thanks again -hary ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Then, go through your Scheduled Recordings and set any episodes you don't want to Never Record. This way, Myth has the leeway to choose the most appropriate showing of any particular episode, but you don't have to record/delete the ones you don't want. This does seem like a better way to do it. It also covers me if I am out of town or forget to select which ones to record (or don't record). It will just record all of them and then I can delete them when I get around to it. Thanks for the suggestion. Instead of Record only this showing, choose Find and record one showing (it's called something like that), so if Tanks is showing 3 times over the next 2 weeks, it can pick any one of them. Unfortunately, this doesn't work. The Find and record one showing rule only compares the title of the show, and not the subtitle. Since all of the titles are Modern Marvels, and Tanks is stored in the subtitle, it will record the first showing of Modern Marvels regardless of which episode it is. I think this was solved earlier this week when Brad Templeton launched hos new TVWish program on this mailing list. This lets you tell MythTV to records specific episodes of programs whenever it sees them in the program guide. You can list one or many episodes for as many programs as you like. It's a great piece of software. You can find all the info at http://www.templetons.com/brad/myth/tvwish.html I must have missed it, but I'll check it out. Re: [mythtv-users] DVB card not *quite* working
Finally fixed this problem my problem was that the DVB card is the secondary tuner card, and when it said Change to channel at startup: (or whatever it's called) I assumed that it meant the internal channel the card is set to, so I put 1 in for BBC1, but it didn't work. Then realised, it was referring to the channel number in the database, and so channel 1 is the PVR350's BBC1, so put in 2001 which I have set up for the DVB card's BBC1, and it works just fine now! [mythtv-users] MythFillDatabase problem
Hello all, Have finally got my DVB card to work, but for some strange reason, it's not downloading the info for any channels related to the DVB card though BBC1 works just fine. I've got 2 tuner cards, a PVR350 and a Nova-T card, the PVR350 is in the main MythTV backend, and the Nova-T is in my main PC on a slave backend. The PVR350 has 2 sets of channels attributed to it, and the Nova-T has one. The PVR350 has two, one for the analogue RF input, and the other for the S-Video input from the digital set top box. This means I've got 3 copies of some channels, and 2 copies of most channels. For example, take one channel, there's 3 copies, one for the external digital STB box, one for the analogue RF input, and one for the DVB card. Another example, Sky News, there are 2 copies as Sky News isn't broadcast in analogue. Anyway, the channel editor has all channels, attributed to the correct video source, and has the correct XMLTV ID - for example BBC2 for all 3 has the same XMLTV ID - then I run mythfilldatabase and it runs, and ends with: -- End of XMLTV output -- Error in 1:1: unexpected end of file Updating icons for sourceid: 4 Updated programs: 0 Unchanged programs: 0 Failed to fetch some program info mythtv:/video# and in mythweb, I get: Last mythfilldatabase run started on 2005-06-05 19:05 and ended on 2005-06-05 19:05. FAILED: xmltv returned error code 512. There's guide data until 2005-06-19 02:00 (14 days). although it always failed before though with a different error code, something like 1312 (don't remember the exact number). I tried to run mythfilldatabase on the slave backend containing the DVB card even tho mythsetup seems to say it isn't needed and I get: desire:/home/piers# mythfilldatabase - Start of XMLTV output - snip lots of messages -- End of XMLTV output -- Error in 1:1: unexpected end of file Updating icons for sourceid: 2 Updated programs: 0 Unchanged programs: 0 - Start of XMLTV output - snip lots of messages - Start of XMLTV output - Updated programs: 9 Unchanged programs: 423 Failed to fetch some program info desire:/home/piers# so I assume I do need to run mythfilldatabase on the slave backend as it shows lots of messages relating to BBC1 such as: removing existing program: south-west.bbc1.bbc.co.uk Under Siege 2 2005-06-15T22:50:00 - 2005-06-16T00:25:00 inserting new program: south-west.bbc1.bbc.co.uk Under Siege 2 2005-06-15T22:50:00 - 2005-06-16T00:25:00 but not any other channel, while mythfilldatabase on the main backend does show messages like the above for other channels. Re: [mythtv-users] 7+1 audio with alsa, xine and 5+1 DVDs
Franco wrote: I have a 7+1 soundcard (Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro) with 7+1 speakers connected. I'm understanding this to mean you're going directly from the sound card to the speakers with no A/V receiver in between. Unfortunately, when I watch a 5+1 DVD using xine, it is NOT upmixed to 7+1 so two speakers remain silent. Which is probably a good thing (keep reading)... Should I change the configuration of xine or alsa to get the desired effect (and, how do I do it?) You could easily* do this using ALSA's .asoundrc to specify a device using the route and plug plugins. Basically, with this approach, you would simply copy 2 channels to the silent speakers (i.e. copy left- and right-surround to left- and right-back, respectively). Then, set up xine to use this ALSA device for 5.1 soundtracks. Note that while doing this will keep those speakers from being silent, you may actually be harming the overall effect of the audio. The different channels in a 5.1 audio recording are used to convey position information using precise and complex timing of the sounds on each of the channels. If you copy channels to extra speakers, you will lose/destroy much of the intended effect (i.e. your position information will likely seem washed out). Even trying to calculate the timing and audio information to add to the channels would not work (i.e. if you were able to come up with some incredibly complex read-ahead and isolation technology that allows you to identify movement using front and surround channels and create the appropriate audio information for the back channels, you would be inventing new information--which is likely imprecise and would definitely change the effect). Think of it like trying to print a 640x480 digital image in 10 x 8 in format--it won't look very good because you're inventing way too much information. IMHO, your best bet is to leave the speakers silent. For more information why it's better not to mess with the original, take a look at some of the A/V and home theater guides on the 'net and/or the requirements for THX certification. Both will give you an appreciation of the precision of the source audio. *It's easy to do once you know how. Figuring out how is where you'll spend the time. Check out the FAQ at http://alsa.opensrc.org/ for more info--especially http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php?page=FAQ028 . Same ideas apply, but routing from 5.1 to 7.1 is more complex than from stereo to 5.1. Actually, I'd like to upmix to 7+1 every kind of audio source, but this seems to automaticaly happen whith e.g. mythmusic (stereo music always becomes 7+1) as well as mplayer when playing stereo videos... This is easy to do with stereo audio and doesn't detract from the effect (i.e. stereo has only imprecise position information embedded within it--generally only allowing the user to distinguish whether the source was on the left or right), so there's typically no harm in copying left/right channels to left/right back and/or left/right surround speakers. However, in truth, you would ideally reposition your speakers when changing from listening to music to listening to a 5.1 movie soundtrack. More info is available on the guides. HTH. [mythtv-users] Problem with nuvexport and mythtranscode
I just did a fresh reload of my MythTV box (been running 0.16 for quite some time but wanted to move to 0.18.1 with a fresh reinstall) following the Fedora Myth(TV)ology guide. [mythtv-users] PVR350 and 150 - frontend cannot switch tuners
I've added PVR150MCE to my PVR350. Modules are configured, I can do: cat /dev/video0 /tmp/test0.mpg cat /dev/video1 /tmp/test1.mpg even at the same time from two different xterms, and they record video, two different channels. I run mythtv-setup, I can add the second capture card (there is no PVR150 option in setup, I used the same option as for PVR350). Setup sees two tuners on 150MCE, not one. I can link both to the same video lineup as the 350, or link only one and leave the second as None, does not seem to make much difference for what happens next. I launch the frontend and go to Watch TV. I hit C, and after a short delay nothing happens. I tried V, nothing happens as well. The strange thing is, I'm watching from 150MCE tuner and cannot switch to the 350 tuner (which worked just fine before). Re: [mythtv-users] capture card suddenly doesn't work
Thanks for the response. I have at least some progress already. It appears to be OK when I look at the setup options. It's just set to channel 3, which is a local broadcast station on Comcast. If scheduled recordings work, this would seem likely. No, that doesn't work either. I can schedule something, and it shows up on the list, but when it comes time to record, all it does is create an empty .nuv file (I'm trying another one to start a few minutes from now just to verify this). If nothing works at all (live tv or preset recordings) it would follow that the channels setup is not correct. At one point, I wiped out the entire database (DROP DATABASE mythconverg;) and completely redid mc.sql, mythtv-setup, and all the reconfigurations through the Utilities/Setup screens in myth-frontend. Everything was downloaded again from ZapIt. It didn't help. If you are also trying to watch LiveTV and the last channel you were watching is now off-air No, that's not it. It's not off-air. It looks fine on the TV. Are you able to use the card outside of Myth? Excellent suggestion. In fact, I didn't really know HOW to use the card outside of Myth, so I did some poking around and discovered xawtv. I got that installed, and it works fine for watching TV. So I presume that means it's not Comcast, house wiring, computer hardware, or a driver problem. It has to be within Myth (or my configuration of it) somewhere. But at least with xawtv installed I can watch live TV. I still want to get Myth going as I do want the DVR features, but being able to watch live TV makes it less time critical to get it fixed. One thing I do note that must be related somehow: after it stopped working, when I bring up myth-frontend, the window comes up without a border (no top bar), and when things were working, it had this and I was able to drag the window around the screen, right-click the bar to Put on all workspaces (I'm using GNOME), etc. Now there is no top bar to grab, so I can't move the window. I have configured it not to use full screen by default, but going back to using full screen doesn't help either. I also notice that when I do most anything (such as, click on a guide entry to schedule a recording), it takes a LONG time to come back to the previous screen again (and sometimes it hangs and never comes back, and some of these hangs result in mythbackend crashing or exiting; it ain't there any more and the next time I start mythfrontend, I get the Can't connect to master server, is it running? error (because it wasn't running). But restarting it puts me right back where I was this morning: attempting to watch live TV gets a cannot sync error. --Greg ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Which is probably a good thing (keep reading)...Should I change the configuration of xine or alsato get the desired effect (and, how do I do it?)You could easily* do this using ALSA's .asoundrc to specify a device using the route and plug plugins.Basically, with this approach, youwould simply copy 2 channels to the silent speakers (i.e. copy left- andright-surround to left- and right-back, respectively). Then, set up xine to use this ALSA device for 5.1 soundtracks.Note that while doing this will keep those speakers from being silent, you may actually be harming the overall effect of the audio.Thedifferent channels in a 5.1 audio recording are used to convey positioninformation using precise and complex timing of the sounds on each ofthe channels. If you copy channels to extra speakers, you willlose/destroy much of the intended effect ( i.e. your position informationwill likely seem washed out).Even trying to calculate the timing and audio information to add to thechannels would not work (i.e. if you were able to come up with some incredibly complex read-ahead and isolation technology that allows youto identify movement using front and surround channels and create theappropriate audio information for the back channels, you would beinventing new information--which is likely imprecise and would definitely change the effect).Think of it like trying to print a640x480 digital image in 10 x 8 in format--it won't look very goodbecause you're inventing way too much information.IMHO, your best betis to leave the speakers silent. For more information why it's better not to mess with the original, takea look at some of the A/V and home theater guides on the 'net and/or therequirements for THX certification. Both will give you an appreciation of the precision of the source audio.*It's easy to do once you know how.Figuring out how is where you'llspend the time.Check out the FAQ at http://alsa.opensrc.org/ for moreinfo--especially http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php?page=FAQ028 .Sameideas apply, but routing from 5.1 to 7.1 is more complex than fromstereo to 5.1.Actually, I'd like to upmix to 7+1 every kind ofaudio source, but this seems to automaticaly happenwhith e.g. mythmusic (stereo music always becomes 7+1)as well as mplayer when playing stereo videos... This is easy to do with stereo audio and doesn't detract from the effect(i.e. stereo has only imprecise position information embedded withinit--generally only allowing the user to distinguish whether the source was on the left or right), so there's typically no harm in copyingleft/right channels to left/right back and/or left/right surroundspeakers. However, in truth, you would ideally reposition your speakerswhen changing from listening to music to listening to a 5.1 moviesoundtrack.More info is available on the guides.HTH.Mike___mythtv-users mailing listmythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

For example, can I use DVB drivers (preferred) without having to re-compile this kernel? It's a bit confusing to read Angel Li's Air2PC Guide which does compile the kernel, and then read Jarod Wilson's Howto where he states that he is using a Stock FC3 kernel. Then, there's the question of which of the tarballs on the pcHDTV site is the DVB tarball. I can surely get there using the trial-and-error method, but I'm just wondering if anyone has started out with a PVR-3/250 card and then added an HD-3000 card. Re: [mythtv-users] 7+1 audio with alsa, xine and 5+1 DVDs
Hi Mike, thank you for the detailed explaination. I'm understanding this to mean you're going directly from the sound card to the speakers with no A/V receiver in between. Ehmm... yes, they are active speakers sfecifically designed for that soundcard. There is a remote controlled amplifier embedded in the subwoofer and seven cables going from it to the speakers. I understood your point in leaving 5.1 as is (thank you again for the explaination), however, experimenting may be fun: You could easily* do this using ALSA's .asoundrc to specify a device [..] set up xine to use this ALSA device for 5.1 soundtracks. I'll try again to study alsa documentation (thank you for the link). Actually all my previous attempts failed and I was hoping somebody would give me some code to copy paste ;-) requirements for THX certification. Actually, I've spent lot of time on THX too. My soundcard and speakers are both THX certified (I discovered them following the links on THX site). There is an hardware upmix function on the amplifier (5.1 to 7.1 and 6.1 to 7.1) as well a software upmix funcion (only available with the provided windoze software). As this equipment (hw + sw) is THX certified and published on THX site, it doesn't seem that upmixing isn't compatible with THX quality... As to the requirements for THX certification, I've asked them a lot but what I got is: nothing. It seems the specifications are top secret, that is, are not open. Unless something has changed in the while, they won't tell you. If you want to build a THX compliant room, you must pay them and have their technicians come to you, check your room and tell you what you have to do without releasing the specs. Back to the initial point, I _can_ operate the hardware THX-certified 5.1 - 7.1 upmix, but as long as I zap between Myth menus, I have to continuously walk around the room, check if some speaker is not working, and operate the upmix accordingly... not very user-friendly hence I am the only person in my house able to operate the system... would be better if it happened automatically. Also, another point: the volume level in the room changes a lot depending on the number of speakers that are working. i.e. if only 2 speakers are woring you raise the volume quite a lot. Then you switch to something using 7 speakers and suddenly your ears get hurt by a too high volume in the room... you should always be able to predict when this happens and lower the volume before changing Myth function... again, not very user friendly. If all the speakers are always working, you set the volume just once and then you can switch between myth menus without fear... :-) Franco ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

[mythtv-users] Problem with scrambled channels
Hi, I'm using MythTV 0.18.1 with an Hauppauge WinTV Nova CI dvb-s card, and I can watch digital sat channels. The Italian national televisions (RAI and Mediaset) make its channels scrambled sometimes (when it hasn't European rights of a program), so I can't see them in any way with MythTV. The problem is that when I select one of these channels, when it is scrambled MythTV freeze itself and I can't continue to change channel. Mythfrontend freeze and after about a minute it closes itself. The problem is more difficult when the scrambled channel is the starting channel in MythTV: when I start mythfrontend, it can't select a channel and it freeze without any way to use it. How I can solve this great problem? I wish MythTV not to freeze itself when it select a scrambled channel. I repeate, these channels are not always scrambled, and I can't know when they will be scrambled. I know this only when I can't to tune them, so I can't remove them from the program list of MythTV. Thank you very much in advance! Bye Mattia. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
Re: [mythtv-users] Adding an HD-3000 to a PVR-350-only system
I'm successfully using the hd3000 with a 2.6.11 kernel. In two machines, One with 2x HD3000s and another with 1x hd3000, and a pvr-350. You need to use the v2.0 package from pchdtv.com and use the dvb driver. Works like a charm. I don?t think that the old [atsc] driver works well with the .11 kernels, but the dvb driver is better anyways, especially for multiple cards. Re: [mythtv-users] opaque
The way you'd want to implement this would be to change mythtv to use an openGL texture to render video, instead of using the overlay channel. Then you could alpha blend on top of it rather easily using the texture engine. However, this would be fairly difficult. Ideally you'd want to do color space conversion for myth as a pixel shader in the GPU, but you might need to do a lot of work to make sure the quality is the same as the overlay does by default. Also I strongly suspect you'd get tearing and would need to fix that too. -J On Wed, Jun 01, 2005 at 09:11:12AM -0400, Dean Collins wrote: Hi I posted this question before but didn't see it post. [mythtv-users] off topic question/request for help on a mediamvp
I tried to ask over at the mvmpc project forums, but I never got a response, so since I learned about the mediamvp through this list, I though maybe someone could help me. Basically, my problem is that their how-to seems incomplete (http://mvpmc.sourceforge.net/mvpmc-HOWTO-singlehtml.html#ss5.1). I have the dongle.bin for the mvp, but I get lost at their current step 5 (installing atftp, I got tftp to install) and the dhcp information. It tells me to install tftp but never says if there is any setup. I was able to do the install of dhcp, but then it tells me to edit a dhcpd.conf file that I cannot find (I don't see a dhcpd.conf file in the /etc/ area, but I see it in the /etc/log.d/conf/services/ directory) and then start dhcp, but I get [EMAIL PROTECTED] root]# /etc/init.d/dhcp start bash: /etc/init.d/dhcp: No such file or directory. If someone has a better way to set this thing up, or can give me some hints on what to try, that would be greatly appreciated. I am pulling out my hair trying to figure this out, and the wife isn't very happy that something I promised her would be working a month ago still just boots up and says contacting Mediamvp booterver. [mythtv-users] 0/nfslock not found
Ok, so I decided to move my mysql database to my backend server as it is a faster machine. I was hoping this would help speed up the whole operation. I grabbed mysql 4.1 and got it operational on the backend machine. I then proceeded to copy the database from the server to the back end. (I exported via mysldump Myth.db and mysql Myth.db) However, when I went to start the backend it complained about not being able to open 0/nfs.lockfile (or whatever it is) Soi figured my database import didn't go so well. Well, I tried all kinds of stuff and stuff just seems broken now. I pointed mysql.txt back to the old server and I get the same problem still. Here's some other weird behavior. When I start with a fresh db on the new machine running mythtv-setup updates the schema and setup comes up. Once I close setup and re-run it, i get alot of QTime::fromString: Parameter out of range messages, and once I get past the yes no q's to the options it freezes and I can not navigate the options. I'm about at my wits end. I have no problem reconfiguring everything. I just don't want to lose the persistant data (recording schedule, file list, previously recorded, etc.) I haven't been able to find anything in the archives about the nfs lock problem...
