[mythtv-users] Playing MPEG2 nuv files under windows
What do people suggest for playing an MPEG2 nuv file under windows. The file is recorded in TS mode from a DVB card. I find that I can play these using Nero Showtime but not with WMP or VLC. This is fine for my desktop but my wife wants to watch some stuff on her (work) laptop that has WMP only. I definitely can't install Showtime on there (because it refuses to install unless the machine contains a suitable CD/DVD burner since it was bundled with my burner). The odd thing is that I was able to dump a video stream using the following... dvbstream -qam 64 -cr 3_4 -gi 16 -bw 7 -tm 8 -f 191625 -ps -o 513 660 test.mpg This stream was playable in WMP and VLC but not in Showtime! This video stuff is all rather confusing. I have also tried to transcode to mpeg4. This is playable then in WMP but I don't really wish to transcode since the backend machine is only a celeron 466, the transcode speed is somewhat abysmal. Any suggestions on how to proceed greatly appreciated. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

I have both Freevo and mythtv installed. If I record with Freevo, VLC works OK for all channels (even dvb subtitles work !). So there must still be something wrong in mythtv TS recording mode. If you don't need dbv subtitles you could try mplayer on windows. It is not so picky about mpeg correctless as VLC. Re: [mythtv-users] Lirc doesn't work
Yes - modules are loaded. If I point the StreamZap at the IR receiver irw gives me info. If I point the Hauppage at the IR receiver irw prints nothing. Please be aware that I'm very green with this stuff so possibly I'm not doing something right, but that's what I see. If you're not sure about your lircd.conf file you could look at the remotes.tar.bz2 file here: http://www.lirc.org/index.html This contains a whole bunch of lircd.conf files, one of which is a generic RC-5 one which, if I understand correctly contains all the RC-5 codes (PVR350 uses RC5). What I did, when I wanted to use a universal remote with my Hauppauge PVR350 was: 1. use the above file as my /etc/lircd.conf 2. run irw 3. press each key on my remote and note the keycode generated by irw. 4. where different keys gave the same code then I remap one of them to an unused code. 5. modify the lircd.conf example supplied by Jarod in his univeral remote howto to use the button names on my remote and the codes generated by irw. http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/remotes.php 6. modified Jarod's lircrc example to use the button names used in my new lircd.conf file. Yes, this lets me guess whether I transcoded or not, so it's justa matter of two extra key presses, I can live with that. I guess this means that the file size information must be accessible to the GUI after all. I took a quick look at the code, possibly too quick, and it seems that all the info displayed in the program details dialog comes from the ProgramInfo class. It gets all its information from the database and recording type isn't currently stored there so it would have to be added which sounds like a major minor change (eg, small changes in many places). Alternatively, the recording file itself could be examined but since every other bit of data supplied by ProgramInfo comes from the database hitting the filesystem might be an architectural no no. For one thing if the frontend uses that class it would have to have access to the recordings directory which is optional right now. But, I'm speculating way too much from one quick look at the code. Check out http://www.hifi-remote.com/ofa/, go to codes and advanced codes sections, the codes for your receiver might be there. I found codes for my Tivo, didn't have to program a thing. I learned the volume keys to my audio receiver (a DVD home-theater-in-a-box), but noticed that I can't just hold down the volume key on the remote control. To get more than one tick of volume adjustment, I have to repeatedly press and release the RS 15-2116 volume key (e.g., I can't just hold down the 15-2116 volume key for a big volume adjustment). Is this normal? Is there a trick to being able to just hold down the volume key and have it work? This happens whether I'm in My System mode or DVD mode. The stock audio receiver remote control allows me to hold down the button. It's not how my 15-2116 works, and it's not how most remotes work, so I'd guess not normal. But if the regular audio receiver volume works normally, then all you need is to enable volume lock (it forces volume key to operate in one mode even when remote is in other modes) or use keymover to copy volume keys from receiver mode to dvd mode. Hi, I created MythCenter and intended it to work with the Trebuchet MS font (part of the ms corefonts). Set your resolution to 800x600 and MythTV font sizes to default values (small:12,medium:16,large:25). I didn't set any dpi settings in my xorg.conf, so with all these defaults, the theme should display fine. Meanwhile, I am very busy on my thesis, so I hope to find some time to do the MythCenter 2.0 update. [mythtv-users] AutoExpireDefault in settings table
The Question: Can I add AutoExpireDefault to the settings table in mythconverge ? The background: Comparing two separate MythTV systems' settings tables, the older system built in 2004 has AutoExpireDefault in the database. The newer system, built fresh this month, does not have AutoExpireDefault. This post to the Dev List, may explain why there is a difference between the two systems' databases: http://gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/dev/135957?search_string=AutoExpireDefault;#135957 I used phpMyAdmin to compare the two settings tables and discovered the AutoExpireDefault difference (among other differences, of course). On the newer system, it is quite annoying to set AutoExpire for each program to be recorded. On the older system, AutoExpire is always set for programs to be recorded. If it is possible to add AutoExpireDefault to the settings table, WITHOUT disabling/destroying the database, could it be done with phpMyAdmin, or from the command line, or some other way ? [mythtv-users] new theme/ui engine?
Excuse me for not being up-to-date; but I see several posts that mention a rewrite of the theme/ui engine. Meantime, I'll look at the DPI thing, thanks; having a W/S TV, I've done the 'other' "done thing" and told xorg.conf my TV's screen size explicitely to ensure that Myth/mplayer get the aspect ration right. Have to hope setting the DPI won't affect that. Well, I've had a fiddle, and now get a DPI of 100x133 (or vice versa) to ensure that my 1024x768 is deemed 'wide-screen' (1024x576 proper 16:9 mode didn't work). No joy, seems like no theme's program guide text honours font sizes, and GANT's is the only 'small' one :-( Guess I may have to wait till 0.19 and the new theming engine. Hmm. But if the regular audio receiver volume works normally, then all you need is to enable volume lock (it forces volume key to operate in one mode even when remote is in other modes) or use keymover to copy volume keys from receiver mode to dvd mode. I've been a victim of owning several AV receivers and remotes. For me I find the norm is more like Robert describes. Holding down the volume key on the remote continuously lowers or raises the volume until the key is released. I also own the 639 Harmony remote and can confirm the volume key works the same. I've had remotes like the 15-2116 as well where holding down the key sends only one IR code instead of sending a repeating IR code. I've tried this and noticed that it also calls RTJPEG files data too. Bit of a pain that as I want to compare RTJPEG files vs MPEG4 files. It's odd that it seems to be hard to find out what format a recording is in. Also, re the other poster's U command, this has a different function on my box. So unless your display is at 100dpi nothing is going to look like it should regardless of the small/medium/large fonts. it's not a hack is a properly configured Myth box. So what do I do with a 20 display and a rather long viewing distance, running at 640x480. I'll happily buy a bigger tv if you want to give me a few hundred dollars... OK I will create the MythCenter v2 despite the upcoming themeing engine, but such knowledge as you mentioned here is very useful. Where can I find a comprehensive documentation about theme creation? I found some things here and there, but nothing seems to cover every aspect. In the most hypothetical situation I want to put out a theme, an osd and a bootsplash theme to match, but I want it to be easily upgradeable against new theme engines and what not, so some efficient coding would be nice. BTW, do you know how to implement a running clock (like the WM's taskbar one) into a theme? I want that too :) -- Jeroen Donavan Stanley schreef: On 6/23/05, Mark J. Re: [mythtv-users] Big fat blue bar with Internal player
So does everyone think I am crazy? I think this is a problem with the nvidia driver. The default color for the video overlay is blue so it outputs blue for resolutions that do not take up the whole screen. You have to use the xvattr command to set the overlay color to black: xvattr -a XV_COLORKEY -v 0 You may have to install xvattr. I'm not sure I'd call it a problem with the NVIDIA driver. Usually, when a driver causes hardware to do exactly what the software requests, that's not considered a problem. ;) Xv--the X Windows Video Extension--is built around the idea that a video area is defined by using a specific color, the color key. Any pixels on screen that were painted that color are replaced with the appropriate colors for the video being played. This allows Xv to use the hardware to do a color replacement (think green-screens as used in movie making) which is much faster than having to determine the appropriate boundaries for the video using valid/invalid flags, clipping, etc. So, why is the default color key an unusal and very unappealing blue-green color that's never used anywhere? Well, exactly /because/ it's an unusual, unappealing color that's never used anywhere. If you set the color key to 0 (black) as shown above and put an xterm terminal window with black foreground on top of the video while it's playing, you might notice the video appearing in the black behind the words (or at least within the cursor and scrollbars--antialiased text may prevent it from showing through the words). Or, start a terminal with xterm -bg black -fg white and you can hack your Myth code right on top of TV (a true lightweight transparent window--all handled in hardware unlike aterm/eterm/etc.). By using a color that's not ever used, this accidental replacement never occurs. The valid range of values for the colorkey is 0 through 2147483615, so my recommendation is to pick something close to--but not equal to--0, such as 10 or 30 or even 1 (all of which are only likely to be used for the occasional pixel in antialiased text). Since MythTV is likely to be used such that there are never windows on top of the video, using a color key of 0 is not a problem, but on your desktop it's likely to cause some unusal (disconcerting?/strangely appealing?) effects you might not expect. And, since human eyes can't distinguish between 0 and 10, you might as well choose something appropriate that won't be a problem anywhere. Just wanted to ensure blame doesn't go misplaced. I'll admit NVIDIA has some work to do on their drivers--but not here. :) Mike ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Re: [mythtv-users] plextor m402u. Which linux distribution coldplugs it properly ?
Hmmm, on my distribution (gentoo), at least, the coldplug scripts use a slightly different vendor id than the hotplug scripts (coldplug has a leading 0). I don't know if it's a kernel issue, a module loading order issue, or a cold/hot plug issue. I just tweaked the /etc/hotplug/usb/wis-ezusb (supplied by plextor) script to accept either, and everything (ie device cold, computer cold; device hot, computer cold; device cold, computer hot; and device hot, computer hot) works. Here is a quick patch for the wis-ezusb that works for me (YMMV). Just copy it to the directory:/etc/hotplug/usb (or wherever your hotplug usb vendor scripts live), and do patch PATCH_FILE. It's a pretty trivial change (adds just 3 characters). *** wis-ezusb.orig Mon Jun 20 07:21:03 2005 --- wis-ezusb Thu Jun 23 02:52:23 2005 *** *** 18,22 # (USB 2.0) PX-M402U ! 93b/a002/*) FIRMWARE=$FIRMWARE_DIR/hpi_PX-M402U.hex FLAGS=-t fx2 --- 18,22 # (USB 2.0) PX-M402U ! *93b/a002/*) FIRMWARE=$FIRMWARE_DIR/hpi_PX-M402U.hex FLAGS=-t fx2 *** *** 24,28 # (USB 2.0) PX-TV402U ! 93b/a004/*) FIRMWARE=$FIRMWARE_DIR/hpi_PX-TV402U.hex FLAGS=-t fx2 --- 24,28 # (USB 2.0) PX-TV402U ! *93b/a004/*) FIRMWARE=$FIRMWARE_DIR/hpi_PX-TV402U.hex FLAGS=-t fx2 *** *** 30,34 # (USB 2.0) LifeView LR192 (TV Walker Ultra) ! eb1//*) FIRMWARE=$FIRMWARE_DIR/hpi_LR192.hex FLAGS=-t fx2 --- 30,34 # (USB 2.0) LifeView LR192 (TV Walker Ultra) ! *eb1//*) FIRMWARE=$FIRMWARE_DIR/hpi_LR192.hex FLAGS=-t fx2 hi, bought a plextor m402u for my mythtv setup ? If I go back to a new install of Fedora Core 1 , what kind of challenges will I face with the apt-repositories and is there a HOW TO still available to point me to the proper files? since MythTV has evolved a lot since any of the FC1 docs were written or maintained, I would suspect that any FC1 HOWTOs would be quite dated and would require a fair degree of interpretation. I'm happily still on FC1 (although I've updated so many packages from source now that it's hardly FC1 anymore). I see very infrequent package updates for FC1 in general, and if I were building a new box from scratch, I'd definitely use a more recent and actively supported distribution as my base. If my FC1 mythtv box imploded tonight and I had to start from scratch..., at the moment, I'd use Ubuntu, but... I'd estimate that building mythtv on FC3 at the moment is probably the path of least resistance. Have you thought about trying to *FIX* whatever your issues are in your current mythtv setup? RE: [mythtv-users] Problem with ending playback
I am experiencing this as well. While I am watching Live TV or watching something I recorded and I press the back button I get a crash and get dumped back to my desktop. Using gentoo, ivtv 2.something and mythtv 18.1 built from sources. Kosta Tachtevrenidis -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Fedor Pikus Sent: Thursday, June 23, 2005 12:35 PM To: Discussion about mythtv Subject: [mythtv-users] Problem with ending playback My MythTV works perfectly stable and reliable, except for one problem: it definitely does not like it when I stop watching TV. Mythfrontend sometimes dumps core when I exit live TV or recording playback. Also, mythvideo quite often refuses to exit movie playback and immediately starts playing the movie again from the beginning. Usually the second exit attempt works, but sometimes it gets stuck in a loop. Are the issues known (0.18.1 Myth from ATRPMs on FC3)? Is it possible to have a full overscanned 720x576 or 768x576 X resolution on the tv outs? What about the audio chip? SiS is by FAR the best choice. -Chris ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Copy and paste this section to /etc/lircd.conf and then irw should work as normal. Preston, are you working on subversion ebuilds for MythTV? N. On 5/2/05, Preston Crow [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=66337 I've updated my live CVS ebuilds for Gentoo. They only check out one copy of the plugins repository, and all the modules share that copy. There's a nuvexport-svn ebuild, too which builds from the Subversion repository. The only change from the Gentoo ebuilds besides using the live source repositories is to allow mmx for mythtv-cvs and mythfrontend-cvs. I'll try to update them as needed when the ebuild break with new development--I'm sorry it took me so long this time. There's no particular reason to update them simply because of a release, and releases are essentially meaningless when running from CVS. --PC ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

It would really be nice if they could show the actual font size being used, rather than describing it in vague text. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
