[mythtv-users] Xine issues

2005-12-12 Thread Peter Osterberg
I use XINE for playing DVD's since it has the ability to handle
DVD-menus. It works fine but I can't get it to integrate with Myth as I
can with Mplayer.
Mplayer starts almost instantly and doesn't show the KDE desktop before
it starts. Anyway thats a minor problem but if anyone know please tell
me how to stop XINE from bringing the desktop to the front.

The second problem is a bit more irritating. It seems that Xine doesn't
decode the video "fast" enough. I get strange behaviors on fast moving
scenes. On slow scenes detail is very good but it gets "jerky" in the
fast ones.
I had this problem with ordinary TV in Myth before but someone pointed
me to a setting that eliminated this problem. Are there any equal
settings in Xine that will do the same?

Sincerely,
Peter Österberg

Peter,

Going through my email and noticed your note. I have setup mythtv
using a touchscreen (a modified PSOne LCD with a touchscreen on the
front). Pretty easy to do and it all seems to function with mythtv.
I can give you pointers to the docs if you want. Here is a pic of it:

It was featured in the November issue of CPU magazine
(www.computerpoweruser.com ) -
don't know if you get this in your country. The touchscreen functions
like a mouse so I am not aware of changes required to mythtv to
support this.

Thanks,

Greg

True but that is a one way solution. I want to see music lists etc, I
want two way communication in the SAME device.

I can come up with lots of solutions. This one would be really
cool and
that is why I want it.
All other HTPC projects I've seen support this. I think it is sad
that
Myth lacks mouse support since Myth i superiour when it comes to
everything else.

Note, the patch that's in trac does _not_ work with the current UI code.

On Windows you can do this by installing the DSFilters from
sourceforge. This then lets you right click a .nuv and convert it to
AVI (I think). I know you're on Ubuntu - but maybe the same filters
are available for it as well as Windows.

[mythtv-users] Changing default rewind amount

2005-12-12 Thread jgmtfia Mr
I have a weird problem. Before my last update, my rewind setting was
15 seconds. After the update it defaulted to 5 seconds. I could not
find where to change the value back to 15 seconds. I looked in the
"settings" table in the database and found "RewindAmount" was set to
5. I changed it to 15 seconds and restarted the front end. However
the setting is not being honored.

I would appreciate any pointers.

[mythtv-users] RE: Configuring SPDIF digital out.

2005-12-12 Thread Mat Kyne

I finally got it working.

Here is what I did to enable spdif output to my amp when I switched from a
SB Live! 5.1 analog surround card to the on-board audio on my Asus
motherboard.

The obvious first step was to remove the SB Live! Card from the PC. During
the Power On Self Test (POST), I entered the BIOS settings and enabled the
on-board audio. Saved the settings ant continued with the boot up.

KDE informed me that the default audio device was missing. I went to the
Start menu --> System Settings --> Soundcard Detection. KDE found my
Soundcard and played a test tune. The analog sound was coming out of my TV
Speakers and nothing was coming out of my Receiver.

I opened up a terminal and typed alsamixer. I was given an error message :

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: no such file or
directory.

Googling for that error led me to believe that my modprob.conf file was to
blame so. . .

# (any text editor) /etc/modprob.conf

-Before--

alias eth0 sk98lin
options snd-emu10k1 index=0
remove snd-emu10k1 { /usr/sbin/alsactl store 0 >/dev/null 2>&

remove snd-intel8x0 { /usr/sbin/alsactl store 1 >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; };
/sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-intel8x0

alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0

options snd-intel8x0 index=0
remove snd-intel8x0 { /usr/sbin/alsactl store 0 >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; };
/sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-intel8x0

The intel8x0 is my on-board audio device, and the emu10k1 was my old card. I
commented out the lines referencing my old sound card and made a few number
changes in the file. This is my file after editing it.

---After

alias eth0 sk98lin
#options snd-emu10k1 index=0
#remove snd-emu10k1 { /usr/sbin/alsactl store 0 >/dev/null 2>&

/sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-intel8x0

alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0

options snd-intel8x0 index=0
remove snd-intel8x0 { /usr/sbin/alsactl store 0 >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; };
/sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-intel8x0

I rebooted and still no dice. Same error message from alsamixer. I tried
creating a .asoundrc file like like the example on the ALSA website.

$ vi /home/mythtv/.asoundrc

pcm.intel8x0 {
  type hw
  card 0
}

ctl.intel8x0 {
  type hw
  card 0
}

Still no digital sound. I attempt to run alsamixer and receive this error
message:

alsamixer: relocation error: alsamixer: symbol
snd_mixer_selem_get_playback_dB, version ALSA_0.9 not defined in file
libasound.so.2 with link time reference

After a few Google’s, I find out what needs to be done.
It is time to update drivers and such. But first a little house cleaning.

# mv /usr/lib/libasound.so.2 moved.libasound.so.2
# mv /usr/lib/libasound.so.2.0.0 moved.libasound/so/2/0/0

--- I later went back and deleted them but you can’t be too careful ---

# yum install alsa-utils
# yum install alsa-lib
# yum install alsa-driver

I tried alsamixer again and it worked.
In alsamixer I un-muted IEC958, turned ICE958 Playback all the way down, set
ICE958 Playback source to [AC-Link], un-muted External Amplifier, turned
and up to 90%. ESC to exit.

--- I don’t know if all of this was necessary, but it worked for me. ---

I started up mythfrontend, and navigated to Utilities/Setup -> Setup ->
General. On the 3rd page I selected “Enable AC3 to SPDIF passthrough” and
“Audio output device” was already on “/dev/dsp”.

Finish going through the menu’s in order to make the settings take effect.
After I verified that it worked, I spent a few minutes patting myself on the
back, and then decided to save my settings.

# /usr/sbin/alsactl store

-- That’s it. I hope someone can find this information useful. -Mat

To play a decent HD stream, you need some pretty good hardware.

It will probably require some hand tuned vector code (SSE3, Altivec,

The graphics card solution is probably going to be slow to come to
linux. Hand tuned code is more likely, but takes some real
professionals to implement. For what its worth, my old 1.4 Ghz Mac
G4 does a decent job of smaller screen sizes because of the work
Apple did hand coding for the Altivec unit.

For now, I probably wouldn't recommend it for Linux, especially with
HDs being so cheap (H.264 is basically trading processor for space/

How exactly would I do that? After all, no matter which way the

the one used when capturing input that's going to LiveTV. Is there
some magic keystroke sequence that says, "Change to card number n,

Re: [mythtv-users] Mythfrontend Playback problems

2005-12-12 Thread Steve Malenfant
Not sure this is related, but everytime I'm watching a show that is
currently recording (let's says an hour long), it will show something
like 15 minutes of 45 minutes. As soon as the show end, it will jump
to 30 minutes of 2 hours. If I restart the show, it shows correctly
the 1 hour lenght of the show.

Peter,

Going through my email and noticed your note.  I have setup mythtv
using a touchscreen (a modified PSOne LCD with a touchscreen on the
front).  Pretty easy to do and it all seems to function with mythtv.
I can give you pointers to the docs if you want.  Here is a pic of
it:

It was featured in the November issue of CPU magazine (www.computerpoweruser.com) - don't
know if you get this in your country.  The touchscreen functions like a
mouse so I am not aware of changes required to mythtv to support this.

Thanks,
Greg

Why not use mythstream to transcode it to 3GPP H.264/AAC at CIF
resolution? I would like to do this on my treo, but so far the only H.264

Re: [mythtv-users] HDTV Modeline Help

2005-12-12 Thread Richard Shaw
It looks like you're right. I tried a 1080i modeline and it did work. I
would be happy with that but at 27" the text in Firefox was so I
couldn't read it. Right now I'm messing with 540p which I have working
but it doesn't look very good. It could be I'm trying to get it to work
in 4:3 ratio instead of 16:9. I don't really want to have it in
widescreen since it's not a widescreen television. I guess I shouldn't
complain too much, the picture is otherwise good and I only paid $450
for it.

Cory Papenfuss wrote:

If you believe your EDID data, you cannot run 720p. Indeed, the
fact that you forced it to 45kHz and it was "jumpy" is an indicator
that it will not sync there. Look here (or lots of other places in
the 'net I'm too lazy to look up right now):

http://www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com/dtv-hdtv-comparison19.html
The bottom chart shows
480i: 31.5kHz/60Hz
720p: 45.0kHz/60Hz
1080i: 33.75kHz/60Hz

I did a Xorg -probeonly and it did not find any compatible
resolutions over 848x480, however I was not supprised since I've read
that many do not have proper EDID info. It states that my hsync is
30-35kHz and my vsync is 58-62Hz. Using modeline calculators it
appears that if I specify 960x720p that it is not possible to satisfy
both sync requirements. I tried bumping the max hsync up to 45 but
was greeted with a "jumpy" screen so it appears is that part may
correct.

Here's the modeline that I use. I believe it's pretty much
frequency-spec compliant with the standard (or at least as close as
can be made with NVidia's restrictions)

ModeLine "1080i" 74.175824 1920 1960 2008 2200 1080 1084 1094 1125
interlace -hsync -vsync

That puts out 33.72kHz HSYNC and 29.970 VSYNC. It will be
underwheliming to use as a desktop resolution because it will be huge
and very flickery with the interlacing at 30Hz. It should work with
the TV though.

One of the reasons your modeline generate probably didn't work is
because they rarely offer the "interlace" option. That effectively
halves the horizontal scanrate required for a given resolution.
30-35kHz pretty much limits you to somewhere between 640x480-800x600
in computer-ese resolutions. Not much more over EDTV.

Cheers

You're almost definitely running programs that are constantly writing
data to disk (i.e. syslogd/syslog-ng). By default, Linux will try to
dump that data to the disk (because volatile RAM is an unsafe place for
storage--reliability over quiet/hardware-life).

However, you can configure a "Laptop Mode" and set the amount of time
the kernel should wait before flushing these buffers. You'll also want
to modify the way filesystem access times are handled (i.e. turn off
access time updates, etc.).

I'm going to try and call them a few more times tomorrow and see if I can't
talk to anyone that will let me get two boxes. If not I'll just get a regular
digital cable box for the other channels.

Then I'll need to find a way to tune the channels on the non-HD box...

And, BTW, don't use "ssh -X" unless you're running an old (and insecure)

With Knoppmyth you can run a remote frontend from CD (handy for watching
from your Windows box) - just configure networking and point it at the
backend's IP, as usual, all the settings are stored in the database.

If you want a backend to do recordings you need to do a HD install.

[mythtv-users] LiveTV isn't flexible enough about its inputs

I'm pretty sure in 0.18.1 you have to explicitly change cards (and
perhaps inputs) if a channel isn't available on the current.

How exactly would I do that? After all, no matter which way the
option is checked, it's basically up to Myth to choose which card is
the one used when capturing input that's going to LiveTV. Is there
some magic keystroke sequence that says, "Change to card number n,
and now change to card n's input m" when in LiveTV? (And man, is that
ever risky, because it requires someone using LiveTV to have an
intimate knowledge of exactly which card(s) Myth is using [and
planning to use] in order not to disrupt a recording.) Otherwise,
the only way I see to do this is to put an extra input on my 350
and bring all composite inputs to that card, just 'cause it's the
card being used for output, and that seems crazy. [Or is this what
you actually meant, e.g., rearrange the hardware?] Architecturally,
there seems to be no impediment grabbing input from any tuner and
tossing it to any FE, and that would seem to apply for any input
to any tuner.

OTOH, I'd certainly believe it if there's some implementation
limitation in 0.18.1 that makes this not work. In which case,
I'll repeat my question: Does this sort of thing at least work
in SVN? And is it truly an implementation restriction in 0.18.1,
or is something misconfigured in my setup?

Thanks...

there are several easier options. If you are bound and determined

The first thing I would suggest is KnoppMyth

The second is a great howto at (wilsonet.com/mythtv/) This is a

It does, as it says in the setting's help text:

it's not doing what I'd

Already does this with or without the avoid conflicts option. (Perhaps
goes even beyond this by not letting you watch TV until you cancel one

and likewise "grab LiveTV away from me if
you need all tuners for recording while I'm watching live"

Used to have a popup to ask you whether to continue LiveTV or do the

guessing it's still there. I don't use LiveTV, so I can't really say.

haven't (yet) tested this thoroughly to see which way it works.)
Would unchecking that option allow LiveTV to grab the appropriate
input from any card, or is this just an architectural limitation
of how 0.18.1's LiveTV is supposed to work?

I'm pretty sure in 0.18.1 you have to explicitly change cards (and
perhaps inputs) if a channel isn't available on the current.

(And does SVN overcome this limitation?)

Pretty sure it does. (But, as I said before, I don't use LiveTV, so I
may be wrong.)

It seems that the guide you bring up from Live TV ("Show Program
Guide" in the "TV Playback" section in Mythweb keybinding
configuration) behaves differently from the "Program Guide"
("Jumppoint" in Mythweb keybinding configuration).

The former has a live TV window in the upper right hand corner and you
can select channels from it.

The latter has no live TV and you cannot switch to a live tv channel
from it, only set up recordings.

That seems totally counterintuitive - the guide should act the same
everywhere. Why take away functionality in some places? A bug?

So, if the "Program Guide" in the "Manage Recordings" page takes you to
LiveTV, how would you schedule a recording?

In other words, the jump point takes you to the "Manage Recordings"
program guide. In LiveTV, use the menu ("M") to get to the program guide.

I followed the instructions at

recognized properly.

Actually, the problem you have is that your tuner is *not* set
properly. If it were set properly, you wouldn't have tuning problems...

You have the Samsung TCPN 2121P30A tuner. As of 2.6.14.3, there's no
definition for this tuner in the Linux kernel. (It may be in
2.6.15-rc5, but I didn't think it was worth wasting kernel.org's
bandwidth to check--it's unlikely to have gone in since 2.6.14.3.) So,
you'll have to either:

   a) hack one together (using type 57 as a starter and adjusting
   b) get the tuner's data sheet so you can create a real definition
   c) find someone else to do a) or b)
   d) wait until someone does a) or b)

When I had a PVR-250 (actually 4 of them) with an undefined tuner, I did
a), then someone found the data sheet, so I did b) (my "best guesses" in
a) weren't perfect).

If you can get the data sheet, I'll do b) for you (so you can do half of
b) and c) ;).

Re: [mythtv-users] Xine audio output through PVR350 tv-out

2005-12-12 Thread Brad DerManouelian
That certainly is the solution. The reason is because the Hauppauge
cards don't handle the audio stream of anything that's been
transcoded. It needs to go through the sound card. The solution below
makes it easy by piping all the audio (one way or another) through
your sound card so you don't have to worry about which device it's
coming from. Took me a little while to get the appropriate levels
down, but I've got it all working through ALSA.

Now if I can just get my transcoded TV to pipe audio through my sound
card instead of my PVR-350 (which can't handle it, so I get no audio
at all), it would be perfect. Basically, if I turn off Use PVR-350's
hardware decoder, I get no audio. Anyone have pointers on that?

I know that the No PIDs message means that the staring channel
is invalid. I tried setting the starting channel to 2_1 (that channel is
in the database with that channel number) but I get the same message
and when I look in the database, the startchan field of the HD3000 in
the cardinput table is empty!!

Is the problem that mythbackend does not know how to accept
channels of the form 2_1? If that is the problem, how should the
channels be represented?

Well, I still have not been able to find a solution to this!
Unfortunately, it renders LiveTV unusable since the HD3000 seems to be
the default tuner that mythbackend wants to use and, therefore, I can
never get into LiveTV to change the inputs to one of the PVR-250s.

I would appreciate any help on this!!

One thing that I noticed is that the channel table in the
database does not have anything in the mplexid, serviceid, and
atscsrcid columns for the HD3000 channels. Is that how it should be?

nope, you should have those filled in. You should see what I did in
the msg that I referred you to in the last thread. It has what I
filled in and how I did it. freqid also needs to be filled in with the
right frequency.

Here's an explanation from Michael Dean about card priority:

I cannot speak about the exact cause of your error but it sounds like a lack
of resources. Since you are running a svn version its anyones guess if you
have a problem or its the current version in svn. Probably the best thing to
do would be to fall back to the release version until you get it working and
then try upgrading. Maybe by then, the problem will be gone from svn. :)

You're referring to xbmcmythtv (see sourceforge) which is a set of

I need to try to setup up two backends in different cities and record
content from both of them to be played back on only one frontend/backend
system.

System 1Solo backend no frontend. cap card with tv lineup #1

System 2Front/Backend system with local 2 cap card with tv
lineup #2.

Can I setup the backend on system 1 to point its DB to system 2 for
recording and guide info. Then record the video file to a local HD
"/video/tv" when would then be transferred to the System 2 via scp or
rsync to a similar named directory structure "/video/tv" on system2 for
local playback?

I know that the show could not be watched live and would give an error
if I tried to watch it live, but after copy it would reside on the
local server for playback from the recorded area?

Can this work?

And how would I go about merging the two TV listing lineups? Can I make
one of them start at 200 or something?

I can transfer files at 1.1megs between the two systems so I don't think
that's enough to watch TV from a live stream.

Any thoughts?

watching recordings (d'oh!). Thus it's far better than my solution, which
was nothing. =D

Subject: TV-out on PVR-350, Denmark, PAL.. any Danes here with a
modprobe.conf?

Hi

I'm in Denmark and trying to setup my modprobe.conf, using a PVR-350 on a
FC4.

Any Danes here who can paste a valid PAL setup for the PVR-350 (990)? plz

At one point I actually had a very nice picture on my 32" Panasonic 100 Hz
TV, but somehow I lost it.
Now I'm trying to eliminate the possibility of an improper modprobe.conf, so
that I can move on to the
rest of the configuration.

I have mostly been following this Howto:
http://www.wilsonet.com/mythtv/fcmyth.php on a FC4 as described.
Also tried the KnoppMyth, but I like to do it myself, so that I can finetune
the installation.

Eventually I will move on to Debian, but for now I will test the FC4
mythtv-suite, yum has actually become
really nice. Need to make more research on the debian setup.

Today I'v used a few hours setting up a Danish discussion forum, so that I
can keep track of the progress.
The site will also be useful for other purposes, like having a place where
Danes can share configurations
and experiences. The main purpose is to write and share danish
documentation, like howtos and tutorials,
and of-course the forum.

Plz feel free to join in and share your knowledge, could really need some
examples of modprobe.conf :)

The site does not contain much, as it's very new, only spent a few hours
setting it up.The categories are made
mainly from memory, not from a site plan, so they might be illogical. If you
have desires or ideas please contribute
and tell me what the site needs, so that it can become helpful for the
community. I got tired of not being able to
find any danish website with mythtv related knowledge, so I ended up
creating this one on a subdomain.
If members will join, and the site becomes active, I will buy a domain-name
for the site.

Till then, thank you for your time.

5 - The channel change always works, I think. Since so many recordings
are messed up, it's possible the channel changes are not working
perfectly and I don't notice.

7. a brief description of what your box does when you try and change channels.
I have a brief description of what happens to me below in the quoted email.

This is with a DCT-6412.

The channel change always works, but video input only works sporadically
(25-33% of the time). I can reproduce this with test-mpeg2, so it's not
a mythtv thing. Steve Adeff has given me some good help, and I'm
looking at swapping my DCT-6412 for a normal DCT-6200. The more I play
with this box, the more truly broken is seems.

Hopefully we can figure this out and end the problem.

2005-12-12 Thread korebantic
Koen,

Your message was cut off, but I can guess what you are asking. This is
a similiar question I asked a couple of weeks ago. You need to use
your audiocard for all output by feeding the audio-out from the PVR
back into the record/line-in of the audio card. In this way, liveTv,
DVD's, output from Xine/mplayer will always come from one source (your
audio card). You can get any of the needed cabling adapters from
radioshack.

Make sense?

just want to add a note... I just called my cable company (comcast) and they
said that they can't give out more than one HDTV cable box per account. I
talked to my father who uses Comcast across the country and he says thats the
policy there as well. Who knows how long this (silly) rule will apply, but it
does increase the desireability (at least in the short term) of this feature.

The older installations of Debian had mysql logging on. The newer do
not. If you want to turn off the mysql logging, comment out the
line in /etc/mysql/my.cnf containing '/var/log/mysql/mysql.log'.

I got my myth system - containing both backend and frontend - to the

Hmmm, I'm having a hard time believing you had trouble with a Linksys router.
I've set up probably 20 ~ 30 home networks. On Linksys routers to access the
setup and configuration web page go to the address 192.168.1.1 in a web
browser. That seems pretty simple to me. Netgear's address is 192.168.0.1 and
so on and so forth. I have a wireless network here at home and a few Linux
boxes going. SCP usually runs around 1 MB, but we do have two 802.11b Windows
laptops that probably slow the network down more than anything else. I
suggest avoiding things that require Windows drivers to work and sticking
with something that has native support (i.e. Madwifi) instead.

I've been playing with Pluto a bit lately.
The one problem I've ran into is that it didn't autoinstall ivtv and the
drivers for the two pvr-350 cards in my system.
Not sure if it not supposed to do that or not. I found some info in the
Pluto forum about compiling ivtv but it didn't work and I've not had a
lot of time to troubleshoot it.
It also could be the junk via system board I'm using.
Unless I can get that resolved, I'll not go any further with it.

i'd be very curious to know if anyone has actually gotten plutohome to
do much. maybe i'm just a little slow, but i can't seem to configure any

of my X10 stuff with their "easy to use" but utterly confusing web
interface.

however, if you have a bunch of wireless windows CE devices lying around

to use as remotes, the touchscreen interfaces (orbiters) are pretty
cool.

as far as myth functionality, pluto has its own interface for music and
videos, so it only uses myth for live tv and recordings. actually, the
orbiters just have a button that launches myth, and a remote interface
that pushes keyboard strokes to myth when buttons are pressed.

overall, installation with the kickstart cd was easy, though you may
have serious problems that are very difficult to debug. also you can
probably expect to spend a lot of time configuring things, especially if

you find the web interface as confusing as i did.

[mythtv-users] advice needed on HD-3000 and PVR-350

2005-12-12 Thread Chris Gentle
Hi. I'm considering purchasing an HD-3000 and I'd like a little
advice. I currently have two Hauppauge PVR-350 cards in two
separate machines. Both machines have fairly low-end hardware so I
use the decoder on both 350 cards. Output is excellent, by the way. :)

If I purchase one of these cards, can the captured files from the
HD-3000 be transcoded into a stream that can be played back through
the 350's decoder? The machines are really not fast enough to play
back without the decoder.

Speaking of transcoding, does MythTV use the actual 'transcode'
program or does it use its own internal transcoding?

OK, there goes that theory about dame cards.
I also know that my driver works in sense of recieving something as I can
use earlier versions of Myth without any problems pointing to the driver
but I was thinking of the signal monitoring problems possibly blocking
the reception. And I cannot swear that the signal monitoring part of the
driver is OK.

Then there is only the country we have in common ;-)

looks good, from what I've seen TI makes the better of the FireWire chipsets.
My laptop has one and whenever I connect it to a cablebox its been nothing
short of perfect.

When connecting the firewire to your PC, if you get a channel over firewire it
is set to 5C=0 (ie disabled) (if that box even supports 5C?). The DCT6xxx
series has a service menu that you can use to see if 5C is enabled. I don't
know about the receiver you have though. Check avsforum.com you might be able
to find something.

But the other way is to tune the channel and see if it outputs the video over
firewire and is picked up by your PC. OTA stations are not supposed to be
blocked, and usually the basic cable channels are not. Its the movie channels
(like HBO) and extended digital cable channels that are, when the cable
company decides to do it. My fathers cable company has no 5C restrictions
even though they can, mine has 5C enabled on all but the OTA and basic cable
channels. Both are Comcast, though in different areas!

try running test-mpeg2 with it connected to your pci firewire card and see if
you can get one of the OTA channels (PBS HD is usually a good one to try) to
stream.

Your TV supports 5C and so can tell the cable box that it is a 5C=1 device
(view once). So while totally cool from a technology perspective, useless for
testing for PC capture =(

I think you're using "tuner" in multiple, confusing ways.

YES you need 2 or more tuner cards available to Myth in order to have
Myth do PIP.

NO, you do not need to connect Myth to your TV "twice". Your TV does
not even need to have a PIP function; Myth composites the PIP picture
internally and sends a single image to the TV.

Now, if your TV supports PIP natively, you could tune the TV to a
station, and tune the PIP window to Myth... which, in turn, could be
showing a PIP display... so you'd get PIPIP :-)

It is not really the same as this doesn't give you any liveTV, just a black
screen.
I also saw your problem in earlier 81xx versions, but the usable one at the

This only crashes now and then and have an occasional hiccup when the program

[mythtv-users] DCT-6200 Firewire issue User Database

2005-12-12 Thread Steve Adeff
I'm trying to figure out the issue with this firewire thing. My laptop is
perfectly accurate when changing channels but my mythbox isn't. theres a
couple differences between the two though. Since this comes up so much as a
problem for people I want to start collecting information on the issue to see
if I can find out where the problem is.

Could anyone that is using firewire to control a Motorola DCT-6xxx series
cable box respond to me off list with the following info:
1. firewire chipset being used (lspci|grep FireWire)
2. your plugreport output for the Node connected to the DCT.
3. the output from a 6200ch -v channel change
4. Your Kernel (uname -r)
5. Your 'modinfo raw1394' output
6. your accuracy rate (0 - 5, 5=perfect channel changes, 0=numbers get
detected but rarely does it work).
7. a brief description of what your box does when you try and change channels.
I have a brief description of what happens to me below in the quoted email.

Hopefully we can figure this out and end the problem.

2005-12-12 Thread Bill Kenny
Hello All,

Does anyone have MythTV installed on Ubuntu Breezy 5.10? I have been having so much trouble installing it on Ubuntu that I have tried 7 times without success that I don't know whats right, whats installed  that I have been reinstalling Ubuntu every time. I have used the How-to on Ubuntu's forum, that its so incorrect that I have given up on that.
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=91511&highlight=mythtv
Does ANYONE have a How-To that will work? I am new to Linux so a link that's is kinda designed for someone like me would be great!-- ThanksBill

Just following up on my own post. Discovered that I need to set "use
on Air Program Guide" in the channel editor.

The drum-beat sound only occurs after audio playback has stopped, when
no sound is supposed to be produced. It's almost as if the audio hangs on
a sound and keeps repeating it in a loop. During playback, audio is perfect.

Considering it happens with mplayer (called from MythVideo), I'm starting
to think it has nothing to do with Myth, but rather the hardware, or maybe
even drivers (It doesn't happen in Windows, same hardware). I ordered
a Turtle Beach Riviera this morning (thanks, Dewey), and I'll post an update
if it resolves it.

Thanks,
James

[mythtv-users] Re-using/moving hardware around

2005-12-12 Thread N Dugas
I'm planning on shuffling some hardware around and I'd like to run this
by the list to see if anyone might be able to shed some light on
potential issues I might run into...

Current Myth box:
Asus A7NX8-E Deluxe Mobo
1 Gig Dual DDR Ram
Athlon XP 3000 CPU
ATI Radeon 9550 w/256M Ram
Hauppauge PVR 350
Seagate 250G disk

The box is in my living room. Everything here is working just fine

In my rec room, I have an HD and a Moto 6412 that I'd like to stream to
my PC via firewire. I know the firewire is active since I've played
around with it at one time.

What I'd like to do:
Rebuild the living room Myth box with existing HW I have:
MSI KT4V-L Mobo (Via KT400 chipset)
512M RAM
Athlon XP 1800
Leadtek Winfast 2000XP Deluxe
Move from Living PC to this new one:
Hauppauge PVR 350
Seagate 250G HD (moving this so I don't lose all of my current
recordings, I can just rebuild the kernel)

For the Moto 6412 firewire connected box:
Asus A7NX8-E Deluxe Mobo
1 Gig Dual DDR Ram
Athlon XP 3000 CPU
Nvidia GeForce FX 5500 w/ 256M
1x Seagate 200G
1x Seagate 250G

A few questions that are stuck in my mind:
1 - how is the firewire on the Asus Mobo? If it's not great, I have a
3-port IEEE1394 card I can stick into that box (I think it's a Dynex -
from Best Buy).

2 - I plan on connecting the on-board SPDIF to my stereo. Has anyone
done it with this board (or any other NForce2 board) and will I have to
screw around to get it working?

Thanks for your input. I think I'll be doing this early in the new year.

Norm

i would, but I think I deleted it (ie. I can't find it...).

whats funny is that now that I have a permanent Myth setup with my cable box
using 6200ch to tune the channels I've noticed a lot of mis-changes.

I'm sitting here ssh'd in to the machine running 6200ch over and over trying
different channels (this box is p2p only which may be of issue?) and am
getting qute a few mis-controled channel changes.

it looks like whats happening is the box thinks it receives doubles of some
numbers. This will either cause the box to think its receiving 4 or 5
numbers.
ie. tell it to tune to 256 and when it errors I get:
255 <- no 6 even gets sent!
2556 = ch 6 gets tuned
25566 = ch 66 gets tuned.

so far its usually the middle # that gets repeated but I've had the third
number repeated occasionally.

Which leads me to think that perhaps its something wrong with
libavc1394/libraw1394 or the 6200ch program.
