The bit I'm interested in is the bit that should look similar to the following
that is printed to the console after the program errors out. This will tell
me exactly which line is causing the problem for you. You shouldn't have to
do anything special for python to print this this, it's the normal output
when a program causes an exception. Just cut and paste it to the list.

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "", line 1, in ?
  File "", line 2, in my_func
TypeError: exceptions must be classes, instances, or strings (deprecated), not
NoneType

Like I said, this is a quick hack, and is likely to be fragile. :-)

I turned off the commercial detection and have not had a problem with
recording so far. I still get a soundless channel occaisionally in
liveTV. I need to put the keyboard back to check if the +/- keys that
switch the sound channel help or not.

Could it be a shortage of cpu grunt during some process? - I am using an
athlon t-bird 1.4 and its usually just loafing along.

[mythtv-users] Problems with KWORLD VS TV 883 DVR PCI Interface TV Tuner, Video Capture Card

2005-12-20 Thread Linuxer Wang
Hi, all

I got a KWORLD VS TV 883 DVR PCI Interface TV Tuner, Video Capture Card
today. After installing the newest kernel-2.6.15-rc6 of my FC3, I
installed both tvtime and mythtv.
Version of mythtv is 0.18.1.20050523-1.

At first tv channels didn't show, and after adding the following line to
modprobe.conf:
options cx88xx card=1 tuner=1
Some channels can work well.

Totally, I have the following problems:

1. Only 5-6 channels can work, although when changing channel it can
show up the title of all channels the xmltv knows.
2. The card is installed on my server, and I prefer to watch TV on my
laptop, so I setup the backend on server, and frontend on my laptop.
Unfortunately, the video can work on my laptop, while the audio is still
on the server! I hope someone can help me.
3. I noticed that the LED light of hard disk on the server flash quite
frequently when mythtv work, but it doesn't when tvtime work. I am
afraid this will shorten the lifetime of my harddisk. Can anyone give me
a suggestion?

Thank you so much,
Wang

Re: [mythtv-users] A/V Sync issue (searched through list, and followed howto.)

2005-12-20 Thread John Yonn
Total strangeness. Apparently the problem is with the nvidia driver I'm
using. or so it seems. I just turned off the tv out and plugged in a
regular monitor for the first time since I finished building XFree86.
Surprisingly theres a huge difference. I'm not quite sure why. I'm
using an Albatron FX5200LP. Seemed like a cheap nvidia 5200 with a
tv-out at the time. and I'm using the NVIDIA 1.0.8174 drivers that
nvidia provides. Anyone know if theres a bug in that version, or have
any suggestions of a known-good version?

Thanks,
John

I run unstable, and it's pretty easy working out Myth's dependencies
when compiling from scratch: a) install the -dev libraries of all the

until a make completes successfully :)

Yes, I thought that to but then I didn't make it work and assumed that
it would need an re-install (Windoze syndrome ;-))

Here is one output:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# ls -la /dev/dvb/adapter*
ls: /dev/dvb/adapter*: No such file or directory

Searching in the mesg output, I can not find anything like you wrote.
Kworld or DVB are only present in the string as I wrote before.
So the registering of new adapter/frontend is not done, I assume.

Ok, what is the next step to take, please help!

[mythtv-users] No backend for KnoppMyth

2005-12-20 Thread Maurice Rahe

I installed KnoppixMyth on a box with a Hauppauge PVR-500MCE card.
All that I got was static, so I started looking for problems.

The signal is there when I connect through a VCR using the
red/white/yellow connectors, but not when I try to go through
the coax connector to the tuner. I suspect that the tuners are
not being recognized by autodetect (see below).

At any rate, the backend is not being seen, and I get an error message to
"fix" the ip address (which works just fine for ssh and scp, and allows
me to download programming data).

Has anyone already been down this path and perhaps already knows the fix?

Here is the reference:

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_PVR_500_Setup

NEWER Hauppauge DVR 500 cards utilize a Samsung tuner that isn't current
100% supported. Autodetection of the tuner WILL NOT work. Use tuner=57,57
for the time being, and be aware that channels 55 and above won't be
visible until full support is available.

COMMON PROBLEM

Make sure BOTH tuners are detected! it is typical for one tuner to come up
as type 4 - NoTuner. This will prevent you from using both tuners (though
you will still have 1 tuner) The result of using "NoTuner" will be static
or no signal! PVR150 users need only specify tuner=57 as the card only has
one tuner.

To fix this:

 [EMAIL PROTECTED] # rmmod ivtv
[EMAIL PROTECTED] # modprobe ivtv tuner=57,57
 [EMAIL PROTECTED] # echo ivtv tuner=57,57 >> /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6

side note, setting up /etc/modules.d/ivtv should mean that the tuner=57,57
part happens automatically; however, on my system this is not true as
dmesg shows. In the end, the point remains that you need to check to make
sure BOTH tuners get loaded correctly.

My real question is what changes to make in the module section, since
I'm not sure what the knoppix/debian equivalent is of the echo ivtv
tuner=57,57 >> /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 that works for gentoo.

Here's my output which seems to indicate that my tuners are being seen
as FM receivers by autodetect. (Yes, there is also one FM receiver on the
card, too.)

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/sysconfig# modprobe ivtv

Yes. From what I recall, the Master Backend can send "Magic Packets"
to a slave backend, to trigger it's "Wake On Lan" system. This should
then bring up the slave backend to start it's recording.

This is all IIRC, however.

Quick note on this patch...

If you are sending a Dolby Digital bitstream to your surround
processor, and changing the timestretch setting results in silence,
just pause the video for a split-second.

At least with my pre-amp, it gets confused when the data encoding
suddenly switches from Dolby Digital to regular old PCM. Pausing the
video for a split-second, is enough for it to reset itself and process
the PCM audio data correctly.

Each capture source needs its own device. The PVR 500 shows up as two
devices because it has two tuners. It is able to tune two signals
simultaneously through the coaxial RF input. I believe it is also able
to use one tuner through coaxial and the second through S-video,
composite or whatever (500 owners, please clarify). However, I don't
think that a single S-video can be more than one device at the same
time

The tuners in the Hauppage PVR series are analog tuners -- they
convert analog NTSC or PAL (etc) signals into MPEG2. To give them a
signal to record, your source needs to be a clean analog signal,
either from the antenna or cable, or from a converter box.

If the signal goes through a converter box (necessary for digital
cable and sattelite + PVR x50/500) then MythTV needs a way to control
the converter. It may be able to do this through a serial cable (I've
seen serial ports on digital cable converters, but have never got a
good look at a sattelite system). Chances are you will need IR blaster
to control the converter -- this will control the dish decoder through
IR signals that mimic the native remote control.

Each input you want to record will require a separate decoder box
(because can a decoder can only put out one channel at a time), and a
separate IR blaster to control each (please correct me if I have this
wrong).

Hope it helps

If enabled, MythTV will ignore the above time offset, and use the

Got it working now... I'll also try to come up with a master list for
most of the major cable networks in the US.

However, I already see a problem. Where I live, my lists comes from 3
seperate sources:

http://www.lyngsat-logo.com/tvcountry/us-in.html
http://www.lyngsat-logo.com/tvcountry/us-il.html
and
http://www.lyngsat-logo.com/tvcountry/us.html

So, I've got to change it each time I want to run, and skip the ones
that don't apply. I tried putting us-il, but it didn't work. So, we
need to make sure that country codes that are more than two letters
works.

That should be a sort and uniq on the list from the db, then possibly a tweak
to the SQL statement that updates the db. Again, a job for tomorrow.

If I'm understanding you, The channel name in the db is only 4 characters, but
there is 21 in the LS stripped name (kaft_pbs_fayetteville) I think because
of the low character count in the name, other names stripped names have "more
in common". i.e. funkay_trippin would have more in common because there are
less incorrect letters.

Hopefully neither of us is mixing up name and callsign in the channel table.
If instead of "KAFT" the channel name was "KAFT PBS Fayetteville" then you'd
have an almost perfect match.

I think the fuzzy function is probably really dumb, and I'm glorifying it with
a name it doesn't deserve. All I can suggest is that the first time you set
these with the "f" option and enter a tougher match like "fayetteville". If
you set them up as defaults, then you won't have to worry in future... Once I
change that master_list to suit at least :-)

This is an interesting thread - how were you attempting to send
signals to the 'server' from the 'client'? Even the lirc mailing list
has sparse information on networking lirc - ensuring you specify the
driver and port when starting lircd and ensuring you connect to the
correct port when starting the client seem to be the key tips.

Are you using irsend to 'send' signals to the 'server' machine? Does
the transmitter on the 'server' work properly when running in
'standalone' mode (i.e. no network options, just using the serial
driver

Okay, cut and paste you settings section. Another idea is to try and run
ethereal. So; Are you seeing traffic to the machine with the db? I'm assuming
you're running the script on a different machine. If you are, did you allow
remote machine access to the db with the grant commands from the MythTV docs?
Are you seeing traffic to Lyng-Sat website? It can take several seconds, even
with the less profligate UK logos. Only once all this is done will you see a
prompt.

I got a Samsung HL-R6768W (67" 1080p TV), because I was waiting for real

[mythtv-users] Can you use shutdown/wakeup with *slave* backends in MythTV?

2005-12-20 Thread Nick
I'd had this working on my master backend for some time but was
wondering whether MythTV supports using this for any slave machines
that are needed for scheduled recordings? At the moment I make sure
they are turned on as and when needed (or left on if being used to
watch media).

Is it therefore possible to control the slave machines from within
MythTV to allow them to shutdown/wakeup automatically, assuming
scheduled recordings are schedulable (via card input priority) on the
slave? For example, I would much prefer that recordings that could be
made on the DVB cards in a slave machine were scheduled and recorded,
rather than defaulting to the composite feed from a cable box in the
master backend machine.

Any input, or even a simple no, would be appreciated.

Cheers,

This card should work straight out of the box in FC4 (I have 2 in a
slave box and they were autodetected on installation and have worked
ever since (2.6.12-1.1447_FC4). Why are you compiling the modules?

Your dmesg shows:

# dmesg
CORE cx88[0]: subsystem: 17de:08a6, board: KWorld/VStream XPert DVB-T
[card=14,autodetected]

That looks like the card has been identified by the system. What is
the output of

ls -la /dev/dvb/adapter*

If the DVB devices are present, chances are your card is already set
up properly. Do you see something like this later in your dmesg:

DVB: registering new adapter (cx88[0]).
DVB: registering frontend 0 (KWorld/VStream XPert DVB-T)...

I see that. I just figured that by using external files the script
wouldn't grow to outrageous sizes plus the user could replace/update the
master file without having to replace the script itself.

> "search term" is tested against for a best match. There is a threshold and a

I imagine for most of the channels that would be fine.

One thing I've noticed is that I have some channels with different channel
numbers but identical "names". You might consider checking the list for
duplicate names and only pass through a name once. For example I've
got several channels named "PPV" and have to go through and skip through
each one at a time :)

It returns incorrect options. In fact I've run accross several instances
of it now . For example the Channel Name "KAFT" doesn't find a match with
the station "KAFT PBS Fayetteville" with a url/filename of

Okay, the name field in the channel table is used as the "search term". A list
of all the available URL's for icons for a country is built. This is
basename'd (discards the folder) and splitext'd (to lose the suffix) and a
list of these stripped down icon filenames is created. This list is what the
"search term" is tested against for a best match. There is a threshold and a
max of the 10 best matches.

> For example I'm setting up a box for my uncle which will have a channel

Strange, that name should be a good match against the base filename of the
icon on LS?!?

Does it give you incorrect possibilities? Or is it an empty list? All entries
get converted to upper case for matching purposes.

Two options. Manuall add an override in the master list. It's the entry in the
channel.name field to the full URL off of LS. Look at the UK one and you'll
get the idea.

Otherwise if you need further help I'll have to send one with some basic debug
lines to figure out what the problem is.

Don't know about the Fusion card, but I use an Hauppauge NOVA-T with

Channel tuning and LiveTV are excellent, and the included IR receiver

higher).

I had to slightly modify the budget-ci module in the kernel when I

Hope you find what you're looking for.

Thanks for that. I don't have any reason to run a web server here, and it
would be a bit OTT to run one for a 2k file :-)

Not sure I understand the need for a source id flag?!? Unless you're trying to
narrow down the number of channels processed in one hit, the source id
wouldn't come into it AFAICT. But then I do have a pretty limited 30 or so
channels...

Yeah that's basically what I was thinking. A Plain text format with
something like

"TEXT" = filename(or URL)

Where TEXT could be a callsign or a full station name.

  For example :

"WSET" = file1.jpg
"WSET 13 CityName" = file1.jpg
"ATV" = file2.jpg
"ATV Halifax" = http://www.blah.com/logos/file3.jpg

> getting exact matches. If people have assigned there own names it's likely to
> be somewhat ineffective.

I'm not very familiar with Python but are the matches done on the filename,
the station name or both? I've had many incidents where I didn't get a fuzzy
match but where the callsign I was matching against should have easily matched
either and they aren't found. And yeah I've updated the lyngsat_page_count value
as well as the country code.

For example I'm setting up a box for my uncle which will have a channel
with the callsign WSET which would match both the file name
"http://www.lyngsat-logo.com/logo/tv/ww/wset_abc13_lynchburg.jpg"; and the
station name "WSET 13 Lynchburg" but doesn't find eityher.

You can use requant (aka m2vrequant). You'll need to demux it first
(project X does this fine) then you can requant the .m2v.

Requant works by adjusting the quantisation levels in the encoded
video to shrink it down a bit. It doesn't re-encode the video. It
works really well if your video is only a bit too big (say 10 or 20%),
but it sounds like your video is 100% too big which might be too much
for it.

If I had a 9 GB recording from DVB I'd put it onto two DVDs ;-)

OK, last one I promise ;-)

Here you go with a working master list and autospeed feature. If the entries
have been created enter "a" and it will auto fill-in all the entries it has a
master entry for without waiting for user input. It skips over existing
entries. It only pauses on 'none' entries. You could even dummy that by
having a blank icon and adding a master entry for it.

I'll give it a few days, and if all is well I'll see if it can be added to
contrib or something.

I've compressed it so Isaac doesn't come after me with a big stick :-)

A couple of other things to consider. First, unless your dish outputs two
streams at the same time you are going to need 2 dish receivers. The 2nd
point is controlling your receivers. I dont think that there are any dish
receivers that have serial port control so you are going to need a IR
blaster device or two. The big issue with remote control on dish is that
they use an odd frequency (56KHz vs 48KHz) which makes things interesting.
If you do some searching of the archives you will see that about the only
commmercial solution that works well is a device called "MyBlaster serial".
I forget the url of the place that sells them but you can get the linux
driver for it at myblaster.sourceforge.net That also is in the archives.

I have a 2 receiver dishnetwork setup here if you want to pick my brain
about it.

Okay Greg, I've got the bones of a master list set up. The first time you run
the script, uncomment the last pprint statement. This gives you the
fundamentals of the master list for your provider (assuming constant names).
Still needs a little massaging, but it's not hard.

The question is when to use the master list. Now I don't want it to download
all icons every time, So I suggest using the master only if there is 'none'
in that field. This way, those of us with hundreds of channels don't hammer
the LS server everytime we run the script. If you want to do a full fresh
icon retrieval, set all your icon fields to none.

To get around stepping through all assigned channels, I'm thinking of an
option to skip all entries that have something assigned, be it from the db,
or allocated by the master list (i.e. only stop when icon is 'none' and no
entry exists in the master list). That should speed up entry once the master
lists start getting fuller.

Hi Norm,

Like yourself I have both a Rogers Digital TV Box, Rogers Analog (channels
1-80 or so), and recently Rogers Digital over QAM 256.

With a HD3000 you can receive about 40 or so Digital TV stations that are
transmitted unencrypted. I do this to receive channels 102 through about 130
or so, plus some sports net channels. No HD stations are broadcast in the
clear.

As for a digital cable box, it's not "useless for Myth" I feed it into a PVR
250 card using SVideo, and use an IR Blaster to control the channel.

Rats. I was play around with the flow since I had that bit working. I was so
focused on testing the fuzzy stuff that I never tested that again. It's
actually exit=0 that needs to move, but thanks for catching that one. I also
changed the text for the f option. The program replaces the string that is
used for the fuzzy match, and the prompt now better reflects that.

I like the idea of the master list, and I'll have a think of the best way.
Probably have to be seperated by country in case there are equivalent channel
names with different logos.

In my case my channel names come from a DVB scan, so the chances are good for
getting exact matches. If people have assigned there own names it's likely to
be somewhat ineffective.

The only other concern I have is having read the Disclaimer on their site, I'm
not too sure of the right or wrong of using their icons in the first place. I
know the wikipedia has a lot of the UK channel logos, but from what I've seen
they would be harder to make use of, as the pages wouldn't be so easy to
parse.

BTW, what's the policy on attachments to the mail list? Don't want to be on
the receiving end of an Isaac lashing <:-(

The PVR500 has 2 tuners running off one cable/antenna input. It has
S-video and composite inputs. The PVR500 has NO video outputs. Each tuner
has hardware encoder/decoder which really takes a load off the CPU.

No S-video out, only S-video in, on the PVR500. The PVR350 has only one
tuner, but it does have S-video out. Choices choices...

Or a motherboard which has a builtin mpeg hardware decoder such as the
latest VIA motherboards. I have the SP13 which has both VGA and
S-video out, and has builtin XvMC acceleration.

I record with the PVR500 or the HD3000 card using 720x480 for standard
definition TV. Recording 2 shows at once with the PVR500 gives about 7-10%
load. Playback is about 30%. This motherboard will not likely do HD...I
haven't gotten any HD content, either recorded or to play, to check it
out. I'm not really worried about it at this stage.

Then again VIA has just announced a new motherboard/chipset combo for
release early next year... It is supposed to do HDusing hardware
encode/decode. Maybe I'll buy myself a late christmas present! The present
mb would still make a rather nice fileserver here in the office..or just
replace the Pentium200 which my wife does not use (often) for her email..

RE: [mythtv-users] Choppy hd live tv playback with HD3000

2005-12-20 Thread Rick van der Mieden
Mark,

I didn't follow your complete topic, so sorry if I missed something, but I
had the same problem with my PVR500 (No HDTV in the Netherlands yet).
Eventually it seemed to be the nvidia driver. I installed the latest
(downloaded from the official nvidia website) but this eats all the cpu
power. So after un-installing this driver and emerge (gentoo) a stable one
which is 1.0.6629-r6 my cpu load dropped to 8 or 10%. Resulting in a good
quality of audio and video.

Thanks for the tips.

Because others have mentioned CPU usage is higher using mythtv as opposed to
xine and mplayer, I looked at CPU usage this morning and found that when
playing live hdtv mythtv absolutely pegs the CPU at what looks like 100%
(and this is a 2.66gHz Celeron). I noticed the
jerkiness increases as the screensaver kicks in. This all indicates
to me that the CPU is doing most if not all of the playback work, even
though the system has an HD3000, a Nvidia e-GeForce MX4000 AGP, and a
Soundblaster audio card. From prior posts, it appears that CPU usage is the
last resort for playback if appropriate video hardware can't be found. This
leads me to believe my video card or the drivers that control it aren't
being properly recognized or there is some configuration setting I'm
missing. Does this seem to be a reasonable assumption?

In any event, I will follow your suggestion and wait until .19 is released
prior to changing out hardware.

[mythtv-users] PVR-350 Configuration questions

2005-12-20 Thread Intense Red
Does anyone poing me at a newbie-level guide to configuring Myth-TV with a
Win PVR-350? I'm lost and am wandering in the wilderness and no amount of
docs or mail archives I've found so far has helped.

The setup: I installed Kubuntu GNU/Linux on a box as per the instructions
(setup using ivtv driver). This is a simple
install, both backend and frontend on the same box with the PVR-350 connected
to analog cable TV.

At one time, I had the "Watch TV" function working fine, but videos would
record as blanks. I read a warning in the MythTV docs about having "Cable"
assigned to both the Tuner and Composite inputs, and figured that was my
problem so I redid the mythtv-setup. Since then nothing has worked.

Despite the problem, I'm fairly confident in the software install, kernel,
ivtv driver and that side of things -- all seems well there. I think my
problem is simply the configuration in MythTV itself.

Here is my configuration; if anyone can whack me with a clue-bat and
explain where and why I'm making a mistake, I'd greatly appreciate it.

* In mythtv-setup I have the Capture Card Setup configured as an MPEG-2
Encoder Card (PVR-250, PVR-350), using /dev/video0, and a default input of
Tuner 0. That seems straightforward.

* In mythtv-setup's Video sources I have my cable/zap2it set up, and this is
working fine as I can see the proper channels and listings in the front end.
(I've also tried both the "default" and "us-cable" options for the Channel
frequency table with no luck -- it's presently set to default.)

* The Input connections setup is baffling to me. I have "/dev/video0 (Tuner
0)" set to my Cable system and nothing else set. Is this correct?

In the front end side of things, in the setup's "TV Settings" I have many
questions:

* In "Playback", under "Hardware Decoding Settings" should I have the "Use the
PVR-350's TV out/MPEG decoder"? Right now, I'll be watching TV on my
computer; in the future, I plan on using the TV out to pipe stuff to a TV.
(Right now, that item is not checked.)

* The "Recording Profiles" section is a mystery. Under "MPEG-2 Encoders
(PVR-250, PVR-350)" like in other things, I've opted to change as little as
possible. Under "Default - Video Compression" it lists a Codec of "MPEG-2
Hardware Encoder" with a stream type of "MPEG-2 TS", and "Default - Audio
Quality" of "MPEG-2 Hardware Encoder" with all the other default settings.
The "Live TV" settings are similar.

* The "Recording Profiles" section's "Transcoders" is also a mystery to me and
I've no clue as to how to configure this so I've left the defaults in place.

The little plugins -- News feeds, weather, web, etc. -- seem to work fine,
but at this point those are just annoying teases reminding me of my failure
to configure the big feature: TV.

Anyone have any advice or whacks with a clue-bat? TIA.

I just tried this out and the first thing I noticed was that the loop to go
through the list of channels/icons doesn't actually skip the rest if you hit
"." as you are resetting the end variable before the while loop starts again.
Moving the "end=0" to just before the for loop worked for me.

Now if only we can get the name matches to find more of them. For me
it takes a while with a few hundred channels :) Or better
come up with a master list(s) for each country that could be distributed with
it? Maybe check the master list for a match, if no match then try the fuzzy
match?

[mythtv-users] Nuvexport - another error using transcode

2005-12-20 Thread Matt
Hi! Well, nuvexport --transcode was working just fine for me, but for
some reason I have two problems now:

1) If I say yes to "Crop broadcast overscan (2% border)?" to yes, I
get the following:

You have chosen to export 1 episode:

  1. The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson:
 (8/25, 11:37 PM) 720x480 MPEG2 (4:3)
 Our Lady Peace performs.

* Separate multiple episodes with spaces

Enable noise reduction (slower, but better results)? [Yes]
Enable deinterlacing? [Yes]
Crop broadcast overscan (2% border)? [Yes]
Audio bitrate? [128]
Variable bitrate video? [Yes]
Multi-pass (slower, but better quality)? [Yes]
Video bitrate? [960]
Default resolution based on 4:3 aspect ratio.

Height? [464]

First pass...
Starting transcode.
processed: 0 of 118545 frames (0.00%), 0 fps

Transcode had critical errors:

[transcode] critical: invalid top/bottom clip parameter for option -j

If I don't set it to yes, it'll run, but it won't work because the
second problem is that when it does run, it takes FOREVER and it'll
run well over 100%. For example, I had on recording run for 12 hours
and it said "processed: 995968 of 59205 frames (1682.24%), 17.53 fps"
before I just stopped it. That was when I selected single pass.
However, if I leave it a multi-pass, all I see is green.

Any ideas?

Re: [mythtv-users] "Windowed" Front-end?

2005-12-20 Thread Dwight Hubbard
Well, I have a program I coded in python that creates a simple windowed
player that can play recorded programs in a window that can be resized,
etc.  But it doesn't do anything more than that and it doesn't
have a configuration dialog as of yet so some things are hard coded for
my environement.   It also requires the directory containing
the recordings be nfs mounted.  About the only thing it does the
current frontend doesn't is it handles window resizing like any other
window.

If anyone wants to play with the code I'd be happy to have put it up somewhere.

However, my current focus is on splitting the front-end functionality
into multiple parts to get it to do some advanced stuff I want to do
for my own needs so adding functionaly that the current mythtv frontend
has isn't at the top of my list. On 12/20/05, Greg Estabrooks <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

Yes, instead we have to idiots of the CRTC to deal with!

Check out my post from earlier today, and follow the links. Basically,
ensure you have the correct modules loaded, get/use the dvbscan utils from
linuxtv.org to scan your cable for active feeds. Check the feeds with
azap, cat > and mplayer.
Extract the serviceid's and insert into mythconverg.

Bake at 325 for 2 hours, serve with whipped cream.

More seriously, if Access has any digital channels (check their web site)
then the dvbscan will find them. Thereafter its a picky little process of
extracting bits of info from various places and poking the bits into other
places.

But it does work! I'm watching at least a dozen different QAM256 feeds
from Rogers Cable in Toronto using an HD3000 card. I'm still in the
process of testing some of the channels, and attempting to add some
more...Unfortunately, it appears the CRTC mandates that I get 8 different
timeshifted feeds of CBC from St. Johns to Vancouver...and I never watch
CBC anyway!

There is a menu option in the mythfrontend settings to make myth
windowed rather than fullscreen. So she would be able to drag it around the
screen. You can also specify the size of the window in those menus.

Okay, find the first cut attached. You need python and the python-mysql libs.
Go through the settings at the top, and change them for your situation. Then
just run the program. It's all self explanatory. I've only tested it for the
UK. Let me know if you have probs (or even better, fixes) and I'll help out
where I can. It's not commented, and probably fragile in places, but it works
for me!

Oooh my first contribution back to Myth. It may be small, but I've got a warm

Have fun...

Your OSD theme would have to have it, but I get it in mine by pressing
"I" (info) twice. I'll have to check what OSD theme I'm using...

Most themes that I've used only show it on the "details" view - ie, press
i twice. You can easily tweak whatever OSD theme you're using to put the
time on screen though, just by copying and pasting in the xml file.

You could make a small shell script that calls mythtvosd to display
the current time and map the script to a button on your remote.

mythtvosd --template=alert --alert_text=$(date)

This was my first impulse but thought I would check before reinventing
the wheel. :)

I don't want to exit the show I am watching just to see the time. It
would be nice to see it in the OSD info.

Check to see whether auto-expire is on by default in the recording profile and also the frequency of
auto-expire runs in the setup pages. Mythweb shows a checkbox for recordings subject to auto-expire:
if it isn't set, your recording profile hasn't flagged the recordings, otherwise, the frequency of
auto-expire runs is too rare to avoid filling the disk. I think the latter case is unlikely, however.
