Re: [mythtv-users] special keys mapped to alsamixer????
snip Depends on your window manager/desktop environment. Volume/mute is working fine with xhkeys. works nice. I will be running mythtv as the windows manager in X. Basically, X server starts and then mythtv. So what can I use to do this? MythTV is not a window manager. If all you run is MythTV, this might work, but remember that MythVideo and MythDVD call external programs (i.e. MPlayer, xine, or ...), so you will most likely be running other programs... Um.. you don't need a WM for Mythtv at all, I have this working and it works great. With LIRC set up right everything closes and starts right. And how can I map the next/prev buttons in mythtv? where do you set the keyboard shortcut keys in myth? Once again, it depends on your WM/DE. No xhkeys solves this also for me, didn't realized at first that it support sending keyboard commands to the windows in focus. Real Nice program. xhkeys solves the volume stuff. Still could use some suggestions on the rest though. Best suggestion I could offer: use a WM. Thanks but I don't need one. So basically it works. I'm just going to map the xines keys to match up with mythtv keys and presto I've solved my own problem. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] Help!! My system has crashed (maybe OT?)
Hi, I installed my MythTV about a year ago (FC3 using Jarod's guide) and it has been excellent and stable ever since. I suppose it was bound to happen at christmas :-( but I went on holiday, there must have been a power cut and Myth backend did not come back up. Not sure of the exact sequence of events but I got this system e-mail during the same period: Jarod's guide == This email was generated by the smartd daemon running on: host name: mythtv.home.theansells.com DNS domain: home.theansells.com NIS domain: (none) The following warning/error was logged by the smartd daemon: Device: /dev/hda, 1 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors For details see host's SYSLOG (default: /var/log/messages). You can also use the smartctl utility for further investigation. No additional email messages about this problem will be sent. Now the system boots past udev, etc as far as the graphical rotating hour glass which just sits there rotating. I realise this is probably some fault/corruption with FC rather than MythTV as such, but you guys have been so much help when I set the system up I was hopeing for some pointers. I can't even get in to the system. Tried booting to other installed kernels, same result. Can't remote in. What is the best recovery/debug method, hopefully without total loss of MythTV recordings! Without deinterlacing, there is quite a lag in fast moving objects or a talk host who moves his head while he talks, my girlfriend calls it 'octopus images' when arms and or legs are involved. With interlacing the lag is less noticable, but the image does shock now and then (like sometimes 1 or 2 frames are cut out). I've got the idea it's problem with 25Hz pal and fglrx wich sets the video-card to 60Hz, but i'm not sure. I'm not able to use the bob deinterlace filter either, that looks like 1 frame is stuck and mixed with the video. I've got no idea if it helps to capture the pal stream with 30fps framerate (to match the 60Hz output). But well let's try that ;-) Hi, I gave up on bob after reading that it ONLY works with a 50 (or perhaps 100 Hz) refresh rate. The closest my flatpanel will go is 75, and I can confirm that that doesn't work. So I think 60 is most probably out too. Hmm 'glad' to read that i'm probably looking in the right direction. I'm also having frame dropping issues, someone posted that it is a problem with myth at the moment (don't know what you built from). It's evidently expected to be fixed soon in svn. You might also like to check whether your running the frontend in realtime priority. That would mean there are frames dropped? Hmm I thouth it just looked that way becouse of the 50 - 60Hz deinterlacing problems. By the way, I have set /usr/local/bin/mythfrontend and /user/local/bin/mythtv to Suid root, but I keep getting : 2005-12-22 22:00:02.096 Realtime priority would require SUID as root. in my logfile, any idea's about that? Noticed that too, but haven't got around to finding a workaround yet. The problem is also there using the preferred (non-suid) method in the official howto. Could it be a bug in svn?? Re: [mythtv-users] Please spend the time to write or call your representatives
They don't care what you watch as long as they can turn your screen into a billboard for 10-20 minutes per hour. With digital cable, they can tell at the source what you're watching -- no need to fuss around with Nielson diaries or PeopleMeters. What's kind of spooky is that your cable company will have your personal data plus very detailed info on your viewing habits. It's more like that silly Tom Cruise sci-fi film than 1984. We're not talking about eye implants yet (although that may be in the MPAAs new bill), but there are all kinds of special, targeted advertising schemes that are being drawn up (I would reckon by junior advertising executives over this very weekend). In any event, does anyone know the current status of the bill -- has it been voted on and/or sent to committee? What committee will it go to? They start a new session after the holiday, I believe, and that also may mean that anything that didn't get done this session will have to be reintroduced. It's still a long way from being a law, and I doubt it will get anywhere on it's own. On the other hand, it's got the words Transition and Security in it, and those are very well-funded words in DC. The danger is that the language of this bill gets pasted into an omnibus appropriations bill, or defense spending, or whatever. We definitely need to keep a close eye on this one. Anyway, Happy Holidays to everyone. All the best in the new year. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

[mythtv-users] cardinput.inputname = NULL
I've been running version 0.19.20051208-1 for about two weeks now. I was able to watch live TV (to some degree) until yesterday and I'm not sure what changed it. I have two HD-3000 tuners. When I first set the system up, I could select Watch TV and start watching live TV as long as there wasn't a recording in progress (even if the second tuner was available). It was annoying, but being an SVN version, I let it go. I could, however, record two programs at once. As of yesterday, nothing happens when I select Watch TV. I took a look at the backend log and noticed that it couldn't find the starting channel (11_1 in this case). I checked my channel settings in the database, and verified that it existed. I then checked the database queries in the log, and noticed that it successfully tunes to the starting channel, at first. [mythtv-users] General Questions
I have some general questions regarding cable set up. I am a Comcast Cable subscriber. Just set up my account with labs.zap2it.com and am currently downloading the channel line-up. I am very new to all of this. So my cable comes in to a Comcast cable box. Currently I have the output coax cable connected to the tv-in port on my pvr-500. Is this correct? Or should I just take the cable directly from the wall to my PC? I have the red/yellow/white a/v cables from the pvr-500 to the corresponding jacks on the tv. Is this right also? Better yet, I was unable to find a connections guide, can someone point me in the right direction? Many thanks in advance! MythTV can tune the same channels your TV can if you remove the cable box. This may be all or some of your channels. Going from the wall to your PVR-500 will give you two tuners for the channels you can receive. If you need the cable box to tune various channels (HD, digital, etc), then you will need to hook the ouput coax of the cable box to your PVR-500. This will only provide you one tuner because your cable box can only tune one channel at a time and you will need something like an IR-blaster to allow MythTV to change the channel on your box when it needs to in order to record. The AV jacks on the 500 are for AV *input*, not output. Your TV-out on your video card should be connected to the input on your TV and the ouput of your sound card should connect to the audio inputs on your TV. I assume the subtitles are transmitted with absolute pixel offsets to specify their position, based on a full PAL image (presumably this makes life easier for STBs). I suspect the blue bar is another symptom of the same thing - my freeview STB likes to make green ones on More4 occasionally, and the 'correct' fix is a bit of overscan. [mythtv-users] why does my mythbackend use 100% cpu?
Hi,This is a problem which I've had intermittently for some time now but it seems to be occurring more frequently. Every now and then I wake up/get home from work to find mythbackend eating all available cpu, presumably in some sort of spinlock. This generally renders the backend unusable (no recordings during this time), as well as the box in general. A quick restast will fix it until it happens again. I don't know when exactly it freezes, and so I don't know where to look in my logs to figure it out (--verbose all generates a horrendous amount of logging). My best guess at the moment is poor reception seems to be causing it, but it's not something I'd stake money on. So, has anybody else experienced this?Running 18.1-r2 (gentoo ebuild) and 3 visionplus dtv tuners.. xvmc is compiled but not used.cheers,Andyps. - some might ask do I not have better things to do 9am on christmas morning - well, pressies have been opened, I got a 500gb hdd for the mythbox, so after a twisted fashion in a twisted way this is christmas related :) ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

On 23/12/05, Bruce Markey [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Using the uk_rt XMLTV grabber, all of my program entries have a seriesid, even movies. This is where category=film and Hum. Movies aren't serial. This is probably the result of some misunderstanding. AFAIK no one contacted me or any other dev about how to best use these fields for the sake of searching and scheduling in myth. category_type=movie. The programid is the seriesid prepended with MV, and only movies have a programid. Checking for 'programid LIKE 'MV%' was a quick optimization for DataDirect once we first had programids and this looks like a smart way to piggyback this. However, category_type is more consistent and doesn't involve a wildcard to find a match. I've always disliked the name category_type and the these are hard coded lower case strings in the English language. In the future I expect that I'll pick another field name for an enum int such as 0 = ptTVShow 1 = ptMovie 2 = ptSeries 3 = ptSports so 'if (proginfo-program_type == ptMovie)' or whatever. The showtype field is unused for all program entries. This was added along with a bunch of other DD specific fields. Well, nothing in your message was labeled Type I or II nor is there a clear compare and contrast so there is no way to know what you are talking about but I'm pretty sure that an exclamation point doesn't elevate an assumption to become a fact. If you were assuming that testing the category_type also would be a cure all for all ills, this hypothesis is incorrect. Sorry, these are standard statistical terms which I didn't state. A false positive - Type I - (the scheduler flagging an 'incorrect' program and recording it) would always be preferable (diskspace allowing) to a false negative - Type II - (the scheduler does not flag a desired program, and so it is not recorded. The frequency with which such a situation like Allan's occurs must be very small - and like him, I'm frequently checking the upcoming recordings via MythWeb to see that my desired pograms are being scheduled (although this is usually due to listings information, rather than the scheduler itself). With the uk_rt grabber, the only entries in the program table that have a category_type are movies, the rest are blank, so there's no way that my suggested comparison of category_types would work with this particular source of listings. I'm guessing that the US Data Direct grabber is able to provide more information, or the category_type information is derived from the listings data for DD that may not be created from other listings sources? Certainly, none of the sports events that have a category of Sports have a category_type set - is the category_type field used to group together entries with similar category values? Even advice as to which list I should be posting it to would help. :) [EMAIL PROTECTED] log]# cat /proc/interrupts CPU0 CPU1 0: 12565073 12678697IO-APIC-edge timer 1:107133IO-APIC-edge i8042 5: 0 0 IO-APIC-level acpi 7: 0 0IO-APIC-edge parport0 8: 1 0IO-APIC-edge rtc 11: 102896 97104 IO-APIC-level uhci_hcd:usb1, uhci_hcd:usb2 14:28668212879769IO-APIC-edge ide0 15: 267122 243089IO-APIC-edge ide1 169: 129606 129627 IO-APIC-level eth0 177: 46100 45820 IO-APIC-level Ensoniq AudioPCI 185: 100387 99613 IO-APIC-level EMU10K1 193: 20452716 20522406 IO-APIC-level ivtv0 NMI: 0 0 LOC: 25242234 25242233 ERR: 0 MIS: 0 [EMAIL PROTECTED] log]# tail -50 /var/log/messages Dec 24 19:54:05 mythtv kernel: ivtv0-osd warning: Source video: Interlaced Dec 24 19:54:05 mythtv kernel: ivtv0 warning: Enable video output Dec 24 19:54:12 mythtv lircd-0.7.2[2732]: removed client Dec 24 19:54:18 mythtv lircd-0.7.2[2732]: accepted new client on /dev/ lircd Dec 24 19:54:18 mythtv kernel: ivtv0-osd warning: Need to adjust to width 544 src_w 544 dst_w 720 src_x 0 dst_x 0 Dec 24 19:54:18 mythtv kernel: ivtv0-osd warning: Need to adjust to height 320 src_h 320 dst_h 376 src_y 0 dst_y 52 Dec 24 19:54:18 mythtv kernel: ivtv0-osd warning: Source video: Interlaced Dec 24 19:54:18 mythtv kernel: ivtv0 warning: Enable video output Dec 24 20:01:01 mythtv crond(pam_unix)[17407]: session opened for user root by (uid=0) Dec 24 20:01:01 mythtv crond(pam_unix)[17407]: session closed for user root Dec 24 20:22:24 mythtv kernel: irq 11: nobody cared (try booting with the irqpoll option) Dec 24 20:22:24 mythtv kernel: [c0143fdb] __report_bad_irq+0x24/0x7f Dec 24 20:22:24 mythtv kernel: [c028a95c] usb_hcd_irq+0x20/0x48 Dec 24 20:22:24 mythtv kernel: [c01440b6] note_interrupt+0x62/0xac Dec 24 20:22:24 mythtv kernel: [c0143a90] __do_IRQ+0xd7/0xe7 Dec 24 20:22:24 mythtv kernel: [c0105b1e] do_IRQ+0x4e/0x86 Dec 24 20:22:24 mythtv kernel: === Dec 24 20:22:24 mythtv kernel: [c011625c] smp_apic_timer_interrupt +0xc1/0xca Dec 24 20:22:24 mythtv kernel: [c0104426] common_interrupt+0x1a/0x20 Dec 24 20:22:24 mythtv kernel: [c0216025] acpi_processor_idle +0x0/0x291 Dec 24 20:22:24 mythtv kernel: [c0216119] acpi_processor_idle +0xf4/0x291 Dec 24 20:22:24 mythtv kernel: [c0101a24] cpu_idle+0x4e/0x63 Dec 24 20:22:24 mythtv kernel: handlers: Dec 24 20:22:24 mythtv kernel: [c028a93c] (usb_hcd_irq+0x0/0x48) Dec 24 20:22:24 mythtv kernel: [c028a93c] (usb_hcd_irq+0x0/0x48) Dec 24 20:22:24 mythtv kernel: Disabling IRQ #11 Dec 24 20:22:37 mythtv kernel: irq 185: nobody cared (try booting with the irqpoll option) Dec 24 20:22:37 mythtv kernel: [c0143fdb] __report_bad_irq+0x24/0x7f Dec 24 20:22:37 mythtv kernel: [c01440b6] note_interrupt+0x62/0xac Dec 24 20:22:37 mythtv kernel: [c0143a90] __do_IRQ+0xd7/0xe7 Dec 24 20:22:37 mythtv kernel: [c0105b1e] do_IRQ+0x4e/0x86 Dec 24 20:22:37 mythtv kernel: === Dec 24 20:22:37 mythtv kernel: [c011625c] smp_apic_timer_interrupt +0xc1/0xca Dec 24 20:22:37 mythtv kernel: [c0104426] common_interrupt+0x1a/0x20 Dec 24 20:22:37 mythtv kernel: [c0216025] acpi_processor_idle +0x0/0x291 Dec 24 20:22:37 mythtv kernel: [c0216119] acpi_processor_idle +0xf4/0x291 Dec 24 20:22:37 mythtv kernel: [c0101a24] cpu_idle+0x4e/0x63 Dec 24 20:22:37 mythtv kernel: [c03ed87f] start_kernel+0x173/0x1ca Dec 24 20:22:37 mythtv kernel: [c03ed304] unknown_bootoption +0x0/0x1b6 Dec 24 20:22:37 mythtv kernel: handlers: Dec 24 20:22:37 mythtv kernel: [e0c7e680] (snd_emu10k1_interrupt +0x0/0x480 [snd_emu10k1]) Dec 24 20:22:37 mythtv kernel: Disabling IRQ #185 Dec 24 20:28:46 mythtv lircd-0.7.2[2732]: accepted new client on /dev/ lircd Dec 24 20:29:01 mythtv lircd-0.7.2[2732]: accepted new client on /dev/ lircd Dec 24 20:31:09 mythtv lircd-0.7.2[2732]: removed client Dec

Nice SFF case!Managed to reduce the noise up to a point too, but got stuck on the whinylittle fan in the power supply. Unless you're going to do some major power supply mods (basically moving the psu out of the box with all theconnector problems that entails) you'll never get this box quiet enoughfor a fronmtend you can live with. Not sure about the 25p. looks lovely and as I understand it has more (but possibly larger and standard sizedfans you can swap with quieter models). I'm currently running a BiostariDEQ 330p. there's one non'standard axial blower at the back, but this is really overkill except for CPU intensive stuff. I've swapped the otherfans for SilenX quiet models and can honestly say that the noise level isvery acceptable now using pwm fancontrol (you need to load the it87 module with the fix_pwm_polarity parameter). [mythtv-users] New HDTV!! Have some questions about firewire capture and proper modeline...
My new Hitachi 55 HDT52 has a firewire port on it. In reading the documentation, it appears that the TV has the ability to record over this firewire port to an external device. I have looked through the forums a bit and I see a lot of discussion relating to capture from a digital cable box, but I was wondering if there is any way I can configure my Linux box/MythTV to capture over this firewire port directly? This is attractive to me since the TV has an onboard HD tuner and it'd be great to capture HD content straight over this port. Also, while I'm asking... does anyone know the appropriate modeline for this set? I've got an old GeForce2 DDR that has a DVI port on it that I'd like to use and was hoping it would be a somewhat painless update. Thank you for the help! Re: [mythtv-users] zap2it password
I have phpMyAdmin installed, and I used it to browse the database. Alternatively, you can handle things from the command line. The following will tell you what password you entered into myth: $ mysql -u mythtv -pmythtv mysql use mythconverg mysql select * from videosource; (Note the semicolon.) If the password is in error, you can try something like: mysql update videosource set password='foobar' where userid='rodney' (note the single quotes, put real values between them.) Re: [mythtv-users] zap2it password
Assuming you only have one video source, here's a quick way. Run mysql as root (mysql -u root -p). After giving it your password, give it the following command at the 'mysql' prompt: update mythconverg.videosource set password = 'new_password'; This updates all of your video sources (a moot point, if there's only one). If you have more than one, you can do the following. At the 'mysql' prompt, type select sourceid, name from videosource; and make note of the sourceid for the source you want to change. Then, type update mythconverg.videosource set password = 'new_password' where sourceid = X; where 'X' is the number of the sourceid you want to modify. In either case, 'exit' will exit the mysql CLI. To back up your database before playing with it, become root and do the following at the command line: mysqldump -p --add-drop-table -F --extended-insert=FALSE mythconverg mythconverg.sql To restore it, use mysql -p mythconverg mythconverg.sql I have a script dump my databases to disk (I have several different mysql databases spread across multiple machines) and then write that file off to tape once a day. Hope that helps, Roy joe byrne wrote: I have phpMyAdmin installed, and I used it to browse the database. Alternatively, you can handle things from the command line.
