Thanks?

This can destroy the user certainly.

However I still have a question regarding the user type being set to
NONVOLATILE once the user is created. If the snmpd is restarted, a call to
snmp_shutdown() will actually save the user into the permanent location, e.g.
into snmpd.conf. After the user is deleted, e.g. via a user command, as this
user is still persistent in the config file, I can still retrieve the deleted
user via the usmUserTable if snmpwalk is on the usmUserSecurityName MIB
variable.

Best Regards.

Hi,

I have successfully registered/created a sub-agent with net-snmp (master
agent). But I need to inform snmpd to forward the request for a particular
mib-sub tree to this new sub-agent. How can I do this?

Currently master agent is not forwarding the request to this new sub-agent,
instead it says no-such object.

2013-04-24 Thread David W
Hi everybody,

I'm currently trying to get net-snmp 5.7.2 communicating through tsm
authPriv snmpv3 using intermediate CA signed certificates, but I cannot
achieve this, while it works when certs are signed by a Root CA.

My question is: does net-snmp handles intermediate CA signed certificates ?
And if yes, how do I have to configure both sides(agent+client) to
communicate ?

Thanks.

2013-01-28 Thread Chilukuri Murali
Hi All,

We are developing an agentx subagent.
As part of Subagent, We are registering a subtree with
netsnmp_register_handler().

We are observing that all Get/Get-next requests with Oid lexographically less
than what subagent has registered for, are getting received by subagent.

Our expectation is "Subagent will receive requests with Oid's under the subtree
it has registered for."

How can this be done. Please send your inputs.
Thanks a lot for help.

Regards,

I only link the pthread library and the snmpd droped, what can i do.

2010-07-12 Thread Markus Hofer
Hi all

I got a problem in setting up net-snmp on a windows host. What i wanna do is to
use snmpget to get some information from the windows host

So far i am using the following configuration: I have two computers, one is
running windows xp, one is running linux

Windows host: Here i created 2 users the following way in the
C:\usr\etc\snmp\snmpd.conf file

createUser snmpv3_MD5_authNoPriv_w MD5 "helloworld"
rouser snmpv3_MD5_authNoPriv_w

createUser snmpv3_SHA_authNoPriv_w SHA "helloworld"
rouser snmpv3_SHA_authNoPriv_w

afterwards i restarted my net snmp agent the following way

net stop "Net-SNMP Agent"
net start "Net-SNMP Agent"
(the Net-SNMP agent is registerd)

on the linux computer i also created 2 users the following way

createUser snmpv3_MD5_authNoPriv MD5 "helloworld"
rouser snmpv3_MD5_authNoPriv

createUser snmpv3_SHA_authNoPriv SHA "helloworld"
rouser snmpv3_SHA_authNoPriv

after restarting the agent on the linux computer i wanted to try to get data
first using the windows computer to get data from the linux computer and then
the other way arround.

Using the windows computer i tried

snmpget -v 3 -u snmpv3_MD5_authNoPriv -l authNoPriv -a MD5 -A helloworld
 system.sysUpTime.0

to get info from the linux computer, what worked without any problems

however if i try that from the linux computer using

snmpget -Dusm -v 3 -u snmpv3_SHA_authNoPriv_w -l authNoPriv -a SHA -A
helloworld system.sysUpTime.0

i get the following output 6 times what finally ends with a timeout

usm: getting user
usm: USM processing has begun (offset 22)
usm: getting user
usm: Failed to find engine data.
usm: USM processing completed.

Trying to access the users locally from the windows computer itself works
without any problems, what means that the configuration of the users should be
correct.
As far is i know the process doesnt know the engine ID up front, so it sends a
snmpget message to get the correct engineID; afterwards it performs the
correspondig snmpget to get e.g the sysUpTime. I observed that process when i
tried to access data from linux computer accessed by the windows computer.
However this doesent work when i use the linux computer. Here i just get
nothing at all

So what could the problem be here?

I hope you can help me

Greetings MAX

1) snmpwalk  doesnot retrieve my mib by default .
2) snmpwalk on privatemib::mibobject retrieves values of my mib, no issues

I don't see any REGISTER_MIB call as we see in mibII ..
Am I missing any register  function for mib2 generated code for detecting as

Hello,

I am very
new to both solaris and snmp world.

I have a
solaris box on which net-snmp 5.4 is installed. I have setup a masteragent

In snmpd.conf,
I have set the trapsink to another box(Box trapmaster where I have set up a
trap receiver).

Now
whenever net-snmp starts up and goes down, I do see traps on my trapmaster box.
So it proves that the link/network is fine.

My code is
sending traps at Masteragent on port 162. But doing netstat on port 162 gave me
nothing. How do I make masteragent listen to traps send by localagent??

2009-04-07 Thread Szymon Klimuk
Hi,

In MIB interface subtree, there are a lot of objects but only one
(IfAdminStatus) has read-write access. I'm interested in ifSpeed object.
It's read-only, but for me, there should be some way to change interface
speed via snmp set command.

Is there any read-write object where I can change interface speed?
Does snmp allow to turn on/off interface only?

If snmp is the management protocol, it should provide some other option,
not only set the interface status as up, down etc.

Regards,

Simon

2008-04-10 Thread CLOSE Dave
I'm learning about and experimenting with some of the "extensible"
features included in net-snmp. There's a lot of power available which
most of us ignore. But I'm having a problem with one feature and hoping
someone here might know what I'm missing.

The feature I'm trying to use is called "pass-through". Basically, the
SNMP agent, when it receives a request for any OID below a specific
point in the tree, passes the request to an external program and then
serves up whatever answer that program provides. The program should
answer with three lines on its stdout, the full OID, the type of data,
and the value. For example,

  .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.203.101.1
  integer
  14

I have a program which does exactly that. It behaves correctly when
called from the command line and, based on having it log results to a
temporary file, it also behaves correctly when called by the SNMP agent.
But the agent does not provide the answer expected. Here are two lines
from a tcpdump of the problem.

It appears to me that, having received a getnext request for
.1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.203, the agent replied with a value for
.1.3.6.1.4.1.8072.1.2.1.1.4.0.1.0.0. I have no idea where it got that
OID or why. That is my puzzle at the moment. Any ideas?

I did notice that tcpdump claims the request has a bad checksum. But
dumping valid traffic shows that all requests seem to have that issue
and all other requests get the expected answers. This is using net-snmp
5.4.17 on Fedora 7 for the requestor and 5.3.4 on an embedded Linux
system for the agent.

2008-03-12 Thread Terry Martin
I am trying to do an SNMP-NET snmpgetnext command to a collect
information from a softswitch.

I can use MGSOFT MIB Browser and I get a response from the device. I
try to use the SNMP-NET snmpgetnext command and I get no response from
the device.

I have compared the packet trace between SNMP-NET and MG soft (see
attached file comparing the two packet traces). The only area I see
that is different is the "Request ID" field in the SNMP-NET uses one
more hex code which makes the packet one byte longer then the MGsoft
trace.

Is there a way to fix this?

Any help would be appreciated. I have sent this to the coders list and
have had no response

Thanks

2007-08-06 Thread Milan_Tvarozek
Hello,

I intend to write a simple Net-SNMP agent that would get data from another
process using Inter-process procedure call.

The ideas is as follows: the agent would receive from the SNMP daemon
requests for a given range of OIDs (a sub-tree) pass them to the other
process. The other process would convert OIDs to what-is-necessary and
returns data to the agent.

The agent itself will be not be aware of individual OIDs and their
meanings. This will be done by the other process that also holds the
actual data.

I am new to SNMP but I have got a gut feeling that I should use something
like netsnmp_create_handler_registration or
netsnmp_handler_registration_create.

Would somebody point me to a working example?

I appreciate your help.

Milan

2007-06-16 Thread shliu

hello:
  I download net-snmp-5.0.9 from www.sourceforge.net or www.net-snmp.org.
try to install the snmp from the source according to "INSTALL" file in the
package.
1. ./configure --prefix sliu --exec-prefix sliu
2. make
3. uname 022
4. make install.

it 's ok now, we can get the snmpd, snmptrapd or other tools.

but I am puzzled about files in the agent/mibgroup/disman , there is no .o or
.lo file in the dir. I try to change the file with wrong code. then goto the
topdir of
package, make and make install again, no error. so I think it may be the files
in
agent/mibgroup/disman have not been compiled. May be the Makefile do not cover
the
files.

best wishes to you!!!

I think that is possible. You just need to include the necessary '.h'

2006-09-22 Thread Harrie Hazewinkel
HI all,

While building the net-snmp agent on MacOSX (MacBook-Intel)
I find the following problems.

Using the HOST-RESOURCES-MIB does not compile...
Configured with:
./configure --prefix=/opt/local --mandir=/opt/local/share/man --
without-kmem-usage --with-mib-modules="host"

Compilation output:
host/hr_storage.c: In function 'var_hrstore':
host/hr_storage.c:583: warning: passing argument 3 of
'host_statistics' from incompatible pointer type
host/hr_storage.c:583: warning: pointer targets in passing argument 4
of 'host_statistics' differ in signedness
host/hr_storage.c:764: error: duplicate case value
host/hr_storage.c:736: error: previously used here
host/hr_storage.c:845: error: duplicate case value
host/hr_storage.c:825: error: previously used here
make[2]: *** [host/hr_storage.lo] Error 1
make[1]: *** [subdirs] Error 1
make: *** [subdirs] Error 1

It is also required to use --without-kmem-usage, because
it does not detect that the system (at least mine) has no
'/dev/mem'.
It happily compiles, but you cannot start up the snmpd.

I also had on occasions that the ./man/netsnmp_default_store.3
could not be installed.

Does someone know if this already has been fixed in CVS?

regards,
Harrie

2006-08-24 Thread MCG PENG Mingxing

Hi All:

Who can tell me where are the  subagent.conf ?

I just run my own agent without the snmpd daemon, while there be such outputs:

Warning: no access control information configured.

It's unlikely this agent can serve any useful purpose in this state.

Run "snmpconf -g basic_setup" to help you configure the example-demon.conf file for this agent.

But when I add the "rocommunity  public" and "rwcommunity  private" sentences to the /var/net-snmp/example-demon.conf  before it run, then It will run normally.  As I known, this conf file isn't persistent, then what's the SNMPCONFPATH path?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

I have the following problem:

On a RHEL3 64-Bit box (2.4.21-40.ELsmp), IF-MIB::ifInOctets.X always returns 2,
and IF-MIB::ifOutOctets.X always 0.

Since this works fine on another 64-Bit machine with RHEL4 (2.6.9-34.0.2.ELsmp)
and net-snmp-5.1.2-11.EL4.6, I upgraded the RHEL3 box to that net-snmp version
too.

However, I continue to have that problem...

Any suggestions on what to try next?

Thx a lot! georg

You're somewhere referencing the MIBs DLGC-GLOBAL-REG, DLGHWINF-MIB,
DLGDS1-MIB and DLGISDN-MIB, but the agent cannot find them. Check the
FAQ on how to add these MIB files.

DLGDS1-MIB and DLGISDN-MIB, but the agent cannot find them. Check the
FAQ on how to add these MIB files.

Yes.
Well, mostly yes.

Anything that explicitly uses MIB object names won't work.
E.g. snmpd.conf lines such as:

view sysView included system

But a fully numeric version such as:

view sysView included .1.3.6.1.2.1.1

should be OK, and the agent should still be able to
return all the usual information.

This is intended for embedded systems, where storage

I wouldn't do this directly.
Run "./configure --disable-mib-loading" and recompile.

> if i define DISABLE_MIB_LOADING, what's the result of this attemp?

The agent (and library, and any other Net-SNMP tools linked with that
library), won't recognise MIB object names, or syntax information, or
similar. They'll work with numeric OIDs, and raw values.

Unless you're *very* strapped for space, then it's probably not worth
stripping this code out.

Dear all,

I have a problem installing the driver for my HP LaserJet 1300 Printer on my
Redhat Linux 7.3 Box. I installed:
net-snmp-5.0.9-4.rh73.i386.rpm and net-snmp-devel-5.0.9-4.rh73.i386.rpm
without problems, however when I run the HP installation script
(hplip-0.9.7), it is complaining like this:
configure: error: cannot find net-snmp-devel support (or
--disable-network-build)
And in deed, I can not find any packages/files installed for net-snmp-devel,
although "yum provides" gives me net-snmp-devel.
Does anyone had similar problems and solved it?
Thank you very much in advance,

Not correct.
Have another look at the INSTALL file.

Under "Installing the Perl/SNMP Module" it says:

If you wish to build the perl modules by hand, *install Net-SNMP
first* and then change directories to the perl subdirectory and:

   Run:
cd perl
perl Makefile.PL
make
make test
make install (as root)

You do *not* need to run configure in order to install the
perl module.

No, multicast SNMP is not supported. Remote SNMP daemons may respond to
broadcast requests but to the best of my knowledge no tools exist to
deal with such responses (well, you may get lucky parsing output from
tcpdump -s1516 but you'd really be one you own).

Yes, forward is supported in 5.2.1. Either you don't really have 5.2.1, or you
have two versions installed and the tools are picking up the older version. Try
running

ls /usr/lib/*snmp* /usr/local/lib/*snmp*

If you have libraries in both directories, then you need to remove one of the
duplicate installations.

As can be seen, the daemon attempts to service the OIDs for the 802dot11 MIB,
but does not yield output to the *snmpwalk* command. The most important
indication that the daemon recognises the table OIDs of the 802dot11 MIB are:

snmp_agent: tp->start iso, tp->end iso.2.840.10036.1.1,

and

snmp_agent: tp->start iso.2.840.10036.1.1, tp->end iso.2.840.10036.1.2,

Thanks for the reply. I fixed the problem. I required to remove the last
OID from the ifXTable_variables_oid in the UCD style generated code.

This happens when the tools read a MIB which defines a variable to be of one
type, but an agent returns a variable of another type. It looks like your
IF-MIB and agent are out of sync.

2004-11-11 Thread Sridhar S
Hello All,

I am using net-snmp 5.1. I have implemented ifXTable. Whenever I make a
snmpwalk on the ifXTable, values are correctly returned for all the
Counter32, Counter64 Gauge32, Timeticks and INTEGER variables are
returned with the following error.

Wrong Type (should be OCTET STRING)

Why this error is being prited on the console ?
Can anyone please help me to solve this problem.

Thanks
Sridhar
