[newbie-it] Rabbit e Java
Come faccio a far partire java? Devo dire a Rabbit dov'è installato? [newbie] Patenting of Software Code
I have had a reply from a MEP, as follows, Dear Mr Smith, Thank you for your email. Mr Newton Dunn has taken note of your concerns and asked me to reply on his behalf. The European Parliament has now finished its first reading on the McCarthy report on the patentability of computer-implemented inventions. The report harmonises current practice in the European Patents Office, and will ensure that patents in the field of computer engineering will be issued on the same basis in all Member States. In recognition to concerns raised during the legislative process, MEPs adopted amendments endorsed by the Liberals for the legislation to be strictly limited to new inventions only. As the proposal comes under the codecision procedure, it will now go to the Council, where a common position will be reached. The report will then return to the Parliament for its second reading. You can follow its progress at: http://wwwdb.europarl.eu.int/oeil/oeil_ViewDNL.ProcedureView?lang=2procid=5974 http://wwwdb.europarl.eu.int/oeil/oeil_ViewDNL.ProcedureView?lang=2procid=5974 If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Sorry for my confusion. It depends on the version of Windows you are using. The 9x series (including ME) want to be on the first primary partition of the first drive in the system. This is not exactly true for Win2k and XP, but there are some issues with non-dos filesystems on partitions lower than the Windows partitions. Sometimes they are not seen and sometimes they impact drive performance. I have experienced both. If you are going to use the whole 15GB drive for Windows, and you are using Win2k or XP, then you should be able to do it as you are proposing. Most people install windows first, then install Mandrake, which will detect your windows install and make it a choice on the boot menu. So in your case, you might want to do something like this. 15GB drive for Windows as primary master. 80GB drive foe Linux as primary slave. Optical CDRW drive as secondary master and dvd/cdrom reader as secondary slave. Also, please clear the reply-yo in your mail client. Then i'd download it and share it with everybody I know ... and everybody would go .. wowww ... 10cds .. imagine the amount of data .. adn the funny thing is that it's possible .. theoretically ... since afaik the people who are good at making stuff would only have to add software upon software to constitute this mega distro ... and there's loads of software around ... and imagine the re-selling possibilities, and thus the marketing possibilities of such a distro ... why? for at least 2 reasons: 1) for people quantity == much work put into it, thus quality product 2) but more importantly .. it would really be a LOT of software .. in all areas imaginable .. and what linux lacks in certain software areas (some hardware support, some games, professional music software ...) it could be replaced by the sheer excitement of discouvering so many types of programs for so many types of things ... it would fill people with awe (or at least my computer enthusiast friends) ... even those who'd normally think ... linux ??? why?? you can't do anything with it (eg. you can't share software with your friends on it most of the time ... that meaning windows software) ... because now you could obviously do a lot of stuff with 10 cds worth of data lots of software heck on 10 cds you could have so many free games that even the hardcore gamer might be caught by one of those even if it's not his wanted *** windows title. if anybdoy feels the same way as me ... where could we pitch this idea with people with enough knowledge power to actually do this? [newbie] JavaScript woes (Mozilla Konq)
Hi All, I am having a bit of a problem that someone may be able to give me a hand on. My problem is JavaScript in the 2 browsers. It will work on one browser at one site but not at another, yet the other browser is just the opposite. I am using Mozilla 1.3.1 Konquerer 3.1.0 on MDK 9.1. The two sites I am looking at are these: http://www.dishnetwork.com/ http://www.highlander-official.com/ At the DishNetwork site just above the pictures is a navigation list. As you pass your mouse over it you are suppose to get a drop down list. It works fine in Mozilla but Konq doesn't even show the menu bar. At the Highlander site just below the Highlander logo is the navigation bar. Konq displays that one just fine yet Mozilla just shows the bar but when the mouse passes over it, it does show it as a link but no drop down menu pops up nor does it do anything when clicked. I have checked the settings on both browsers and both seem to be enabled. Anyone know what I can do to make both of these work universally? Thanks Russ PS I did finally get shockwave to work in both browsers. Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

Re: [newbie] Fetchmail problem with duplicate messages
I checked, there was a blank /etc/fetchmailrc. I copied the info over, but I don't think if it was using that config file, it would have gotten ANY email at all. I didn't use fetchmailconf, as it didn't work, so I edited the file manually. It is possible that console is using the /etc/fetchmailrc file rather than /root/.fetchmailrc file which is probably what the cron job is using. You might want to check by making sure that both files, if they exist are identical to see if that fixes the problem. You can also specify the exact location of the config file as a parameter to the cron job command or build a script that does it for you. By default, webmin uses a /etc/fetchmailrc location for settings while fetchmailconf uses /root/.fetchmailrc. Not sure which one is used by fetchmail if you don't specify it.
