Re: [newbie] Mozilla - SSL ?
I've added { -filter{popups} -kill-popups } .your-example-bank.com .hsbc.com.tr .vakifbank.com.tr to force privoxy open pop-ups, it opens the window but window is not https window I figured (seeing *no* tool bars in regular bank https pop-ups, this time a pop-up window opened with tool bars with forcing), as a result of this pop-up window I've got: Could not establish an encrypted connection because certificate presented by ***.***.com is invalid or corrupted. Error Code: -8182 So I tried opening my web hosting https://. page with mozilla and see what? mozilla can't open https pages with or without privoxy, netscape can open without privoxy (direct connection) but not with privoxy, but netscape can't open banks https pop-ups. (I know dealing with privoxy made the problem more messy but still with netscape and mozilla, with or without privoxy I can't open bank pop-ups, privoxy is a localhost proxy program to kill popups, pests, unwanted sites, banners etc.) In fact searching the internet with certificate error -8182 let me know lotsa ppl. is experiencing the same problem. Weirdest thing is Netscape used to be open any https pages including bank pop-ups *before* installing Mozilla. Best. Bests. Can Baytan The ftp reference you give is a Mandrake mirror. It has the same RPMS as on the download CDs. It also has a synthesis.hdlist.cz file which contains all the dependency information and package descriptions. So if you were to give the command urpmi.addmedia rutgers ftp://ftp.rutgers.edu/pub/mandrake/Mandrake/9.0/i586/Mandrake/RPMS with ./synthesis.hdlist.cz (That command is all on one line), then you would see the packages in your Mandrake software manager and see all their descriptions. There is not a lot of point however since they are all already on your CDs. However if you were to give the command urpmi.addmedia contrib ftp://ftp.rutgers.edu/pub/mandrake/Mandrake/9.0/contrib/RPMS with ./synthesis.hdlist.cz Then you would gain access to the applications in the Contrib folder which are *not* on your CDs. There are lots of really useful applications in Contrib HTH derek

Re: [newbie] Sort of OT - language
Lemme say few join the OT'ers, Among En, Tr (Turkish), Ge, and Fr, EN grammer is easiest, than TR-GE-FR (for the sake of argument: you don't have to know grammer well to speak any language, remember lil' kids learning mother tounge?) EN vocabulary is bggest to learn. (the only bad point for EN when learning, IMHO) EN has fewest irregularities almost none, comparing the other three. EN sentence structure is easiest to speak, eg. changing musicality and/or tone make a normal sentence a well understandable question sentence. EN speaking has lotsa shotcuts like gonna gotta, oughta, woulda. Am EN speaking ppl is more understandable than En EN or Au EN speakers on the street at least to me, eg. a scottish sounds likes a chinese to me. (We have BBC and CNN chn's also others here in Turkey) In US and AU people don't need to learn other languages much, comparing other countries due to almost isolated borders except Mexico. EN is most widelyeffectively speaking language of the world, Chinese is another case. My conclusion: If you learn enough EN vocabulary and learn how to pronounce them understandably, you are on your way in EN, rest is depends on how much time you spent for. Bests. Can Baytan Chuck Burns wrote: On Thu, 2003-01-09 at 08:03, Vahur Lokk wrote: Thats easy to explain - compared to other languages english has no grammar whatsoever, thus being easy to learn for foreigners (who have already grammar experience with their mother tongue) :) Actually.. English is one of the HARDEST languages to learn, since we have so many words that have 4 or 5 different meanings, different ways of saying the same thing, etc. The fact of the matter is, many people in non-english countries are required to learn english in school, from an early age. Now, on the other hand, many people in the USA ALSO take a few years of a foreign language, but not until they are 16-20ish, and the older you get, the harder it is to learn a new language. Now.. even so, the fact that we don't USE foreign languages very often here is, in itself, contributory to us not speaking many languages. Go down to Texas, close to the Mexican border, you will find MANY spanish-speaking US citizens. [newbie] Mouse
Howdy doody all, My first mail!, intro is at: www.baytan.org, Installed 9.0 yesterday. I was gonna ask kppp question but now I've changed my mouse from regular to wheel, because mine is PS/2 wheel, it freezed, I don't wanna change my X config, I checked XF86Config and it says dev ./dev/usbmouse (I guess because evrything is ok except internet connection writing this from win2k). I've typed device to /dev/mouse or /dev/ttyS0 (Silly me it's modem) didn't on the XF86Config neither worked. Anyways any ideas will be appreciated for mouse blues, like is there any way using KDE without mouse or typing something correct on the XF86Config. [newbie] Where is network?
Best list ever seen, Thanks Charles, Stephen, Jason, etharp, mousedrake with alt-F1 menu - run like charm. Now, I installed 9.0 with a single CD, a magazine promotion, I didn't see kppp, thinking kppp is in other CD's today I've DL'ed 3 iso's and burned, I've rebooted from fd0 and choose update packages, copying (but where) suppose to be done because my / df is increased from 23% to 37%, now AFAIU from this list there is no kppp on the 9.0 distribution (sheesh, also where is my pico, mc, XV), but when I run install packages, RPM db is not seemed to changed, locate wvdial gives a vim readme file thats all. This single CD 9.0 installation went perfect better than ever, except networking and sound as regular user (root plays jingling bells). Really feel strange a Linux without networking.
