I'm not noticing any problems. I'm running 2.6.2 tmb something from cooker contrib.

Not tried it I don't think but I would double check the reiserFS web
site. I am still having problems with my Sata controller so after 3
atempts to install beta 3 I gave up last night will give it another
couple of goes tonight.

Can anyone help with a question on 2.6?

I have ReiserFS on all my partitions. Half the reason for wanting 2.6 is
the capability bits in the filesystems. If I install 2.6 on my spare
partition will the 2.4 FS and the 2.6 FS be compatible, and will I have
the capability bits when running in 2.6?

I can tell you that the partitions that I keep (/var+ /var/www on different
drives) are both reiser, and I have no trouble accessing them... not really
sure about the bits.

I have to agree, when my system was running with the 2.6 kernel, it was significantly
faster than the 2.4, that was just using the desktop.

Interesting, though it seems to be saying that the main advantages are
for high-end servers. Any comments on the desktop end?

I've heard from many places that 2.6 won't support 3D acceleration, but
nVidia's latest Linux drivers claim to be 2.6-compatible. Anyone got
them working?

Incidentally, don't try using the latest nVidia drivers with the 2.4
kernel that comes with Mdk 9.2 - you'll get a black screen.

I never used the Nvidia drivers as they did not have the drivers at the time. I am
going to put beta2 on tonight and I will let you know tomorrow.

I see very little speed difference, and I'm using the sup'd
up tmb versions, 2.6.2-0.rc2.1.tmb.2mdk MOF, my hdparm -t
numbers are lower under 2.6.x, 47 down to 40mb/s.

Biggest changes for desktops are increased hardware support.
ide-scsi is no longer used, all CD drives are now scsci driven.
On my board (Asus A7V600), ACPI and APIC now want to be enabled,
but I do have better IRQ routing. Sound is sometimes a little
tinny an ragged, but I believe thats due to newer Alsa versions
in 2.6.x kernels.

2.4.x kernels didn't really start to jell till 2.4.13. I
suspect 2.6.x wont need that many versions to mature. Linus has
said so! ;)I agree with JoeHill tho, those that can run
2.6.x now, should.
