[newbie] USB Printer
Hi All, I have a USB Printer and I want to know if it is: /dev/usblp0 /dev/usblp1 /dev/usb/lp0 /dev/usb/lp1 It worked when I installed MK9.1 (sort of). The color was really light so I messed with them but still no good. So I installed TurboPrint (decided to just go that route), but now nothing can see my printer. I followed all their howtos (at least I think I did) but still no go. Anyone have a clue? Please don't ask me to uninstall CUPS, the last time I did that I destroyed KDE. Don't ask cause I don't know - Just chalk it up to talent. Thanks Russ Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

Re: [newbie] usb printer probs in 9.0?
Greetings everyone, I am having a problem trying to configure my Epson Stylus Color 480SXU in Mdk 9.0. This printer wasn't detected during install of 9.0, but it is showing correctly in MCC. When I try to configure with PrinterDrake, I go through the wizard process, and all seems OK till I try to test the driver and get asked for a password: The access to the requested resource on the CUPS server running on localhost (port 631) requires a password. So, I then enter my user passwordthat's not good enough. I then try my root password, it chews on that for quite a while, during which I get a bit of erratic window behaviour, then it refuses my root password too. What does PrinterDrake want?? I click on Finish and get this error: An error occurred while retrieving the printer list: client-error-not-found. Why isn't my printer being found? The 480SXU is a usb only printer, and it's listed on the Mdk hardware site as being perfectly compatible w/9.0. It worked perfect for me under 8.2. It doesn't seem to be detected during boot. usb is loaded but the printer isn't detected. Anyone have any ideas? TIA for anything. - I got my printer configured and working. I tried unplugging the usb cable from the computer port and plugging it back in.that didn't help, but I tried plugging it into my other usb port...presto! I was able to configure the printer w/PrinterDrake, and it is now functioning OK. I wonder why the first port was not acceptable?? It was working there in Mdk 8.2. Seems strange that the installer didn't offer to configure my printer :-/ It works now anyway. ;-) --Angus This is the Earth School..always in session. Does USB Printer Xerox Docuprint P8xe works on Mandrake 7.2? Saravut Teepprasan http://www.digitaltophoto.com
Re: [newbie] USB Printer
Probably, there is an entry "Docuprint P8e" in the model list, and in addition USB printing is supported by Mandrake 7.2 (I use a DeskJet 840C with USB connection). The Docuprint P8e is compatible to the HP LaserJet 4 series (uses the "ljet4" driver of GhostScript). So probably also the GIMP-Print drivers for 600-dpi LaserJets would work. Re: [newbie] USB printer?
I don't have a usb printer, however if it is setup on lp0 etc... then all you should have to do is load the drivers for it. su to root type printtool select "add" and follow the directions. Also does the kernel usb drivers directly support your particular printer or is that just the generic usb support that is detecting something on the usb port? Hello, I've got an Epson 740 printer that I'm currently using on my parallel port and I would like to configure it to use the USB port as it supports both. I know there is kernel support in the latest kernel, I'm just not sure how to make the connections. Right now I'm using /dev/lp0 for my parallel port, however I don't see 'usb' under the /dev tree. What's my next step? Thanks so much! Mike -- Michael Holt [EMAIL PROTECTED]
