[newbie] Newbie Mouse Problem
I have a USB wireless optical mouse hooked up to my Toshiba laptop. Mandrake 9.0 does not allow either the glidepad or my wireless mouse to work right. All the mouse is able to do is go up and down on the screen. Red Hat 8.0 recognizes my mouse fine. Any suggestions? __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. [newbie] Mouse problem during installation
I am having a problem with getting my mouse to work during the install of Mandrake 7.2. It looks like the kernel is recongiziing the mouse port, but not the mouse. I am using a PS/2 Logitec wheel mouse. When I am in the graphical install, I can see the cursor, but I can't move it with the mouse. This is rather frustrating because it's hard to navigate through all of the dialog boxes. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, that mouse works just fine. i read that mandrake can use almost any mouse, but i have a microsoft intellimouse, can linux also use that mouse? i dont know if they could make it only used on windows, since they also have the winmodem, which unfortunately i also have, and i hear cant be used on anything but windows. -- Anthony Huereca http://m3000.1wh.com Computers are not intelligent. Re: [[newbie] Mouse Problem after CPU Switch]
Did you try changing connections (i.e. swap two of the CPUs locations on the switch)? It could be that the switch is bad in that one location, and that your problem is not related to different o/s. -Gary- 6/16 Leo Stutzmann wrote: Thanks, Yes, it is a rotary dial switch allowing 4 cpus to share 1 keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Most mice don't like being switched in/out. I'm surprised it resumes working when you switch back. [newbie] Mouse Problem?
I think I have a conflict but don't know how to resolve it. Can not install in graphical mode it freezes on contact, have to use text mode. When going into graphical mode(startx) the system freezes, no numlock nothing. Mouse is a ps/2 mouse. My system is a Gateway 500 pent 3 running windows 98. Have put the mouse on a serial port but mandrake nor 98 will find it. Linux would start in graphical mode(startx to kde) with the mouse on a serial port but no mouse movements. Looked in Bios and saw that the ports are enabled, no confilcts are showing. Went to site http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/ffreesup.php3 and tried to download the Patch, but windows does not recognize my linux boot disk. Have also put on redhat with same results. Windows finds the mouse no problem. Any Help would be appreciated. Jeff Fleming

You may have to re-select your mouse as a "p/s2 serial" mouse or something like that. Also, do you have a switch on the bottom of your mouse to switch between "mouse-systems" mode and "p/s2 mode." I ended up swapping the PS/2 mouse for a serial one and things popped right back to normal. Can't say I've ever seen that happen before, but I spent around 4 hours (and 3 reinstalls) trying to get that PS/2 mouse working. I'd suggest trying to move back to a real serial mouse. Agreed. Many of those PS/2 to serial adapters don't work. You either need a PS/2 port or a serial mouse in all liklihood. John
Re: [newbie] Mouse problem
I am curious if the mouse was a PS/2 run through an adaptor to the serial port or the serial mouse attached through a PS/2 adapter. In the first case, get a real serial mouse. In the second, run XF86Setup or XF86config and reconfigure the mouse driver. Steve's advice is good, however. Stick with the serial mouse if you can. Motherboards move in mysterious ways.
