I have a HP DeskJet 500 bw printer attached to my LPT1 (DOS) paralell port. It
was detected and installed wothout a wrinkle. Now I must admit that this is an
older printer, but it is still a paralell printer, so there are at least some
that work ok.

Paralell is not generally supported under Linux for scanners. I've
seen ONE post that has indicated that there is limited support for
paralell port scanners under Linux.
You'd have a LOT better luck getting a SCSI scanner (although those
can be hard to find these days!)

[newbie] Scanner

1999-11-20 Thread Dennis Robertson

Hello List,

I am trying to get my Mustek 60011N scanner to work. I have installed
SANE on initial install (and Kpackage confirms) and have printed the
notes on how to configure, build and install SANE as well as sane-mustek
5, which I printed when I was running Caldera2.2. Problem is the files
which should be in /usr/local/lib/, /usr/local//etc/sane.d/ and
/usr/local/man/ do not exist. GIMP cannot see the scanner.

Can anyone tell me what to do from here ( to get my scanner working,
that is ), please?

TIA.

Thanks for the sugestion about the SANE website. I downloaded SANE however,
after configuring it ( I guess I did not do it right) it does not work. Does
any body know the steps to follow? I tried both ways: SANE 1.01 rpm and the tar
version. My scanner is a Mustek 600 CP (parallel).

I have one of those also, and according to the supported hardware lists. It
is not on any of them. It looks like about the only scanners supported so
far are scsi.

SANE does not support any parallel port scanners. I have one too and its the main
reason why I can't remove Windows from my system.

I thought so too, although somewhere I read that parallel were supported.
Probably my mistake.
Thanks for the input.

Re: [newbie] scanner

1999-05-21 Thread Linda and Mike

I checked on the SANE site for my scanner. Of course, it is not listed. I
have a Mustek 1200II EP. It is on its own parallel port and not through the
printer. I read all the Mustek scanners on the list. They were mostly all
SCSI. I read that the 600 something was partially supported IF it is hooked up
to its own parallel port.
