Strangely, it has made no difference with CD burning or otherwise so

You can always do a mkdir /cdrom then umount /dev/cdrom then a

least will resolve the issue with UT looking for /cdrom - !!

Hey Trevor. Which version of UT is it, and what version of Mandrake are you
using?

The Original
Game of the Year
UT: 2003

I've always had to do a supermount -i disable here to get it to accept the CD.

After that, it goes like this:

mount /mnt/cdrom (or whatever your CD device is)
cd wherever your installer is
./ut-install-436.run (as su)
or
./ut-install-436-GOTY.run (again, as su)

If you're using Tux Games installer CD, then you would:

mount /mnt/cdrom
cd /mnt/cdrom
source ./setup (or sh setup.sh - I think either works)
and follow the directions.

Now...most of the time, your installer (which one are you using, BTW) will ask
for the 2nd CD. If not, get another installer. After that, its supposed to
decompress the files in /ut/Maps, but a lot of times - it doesn't. Thats why
when I did get it to work correctly once - I backed up the decompressed /Maps
folder onto a CD...so I could easily copy it back over after an install.

If everything goes well, but you can't get it to decompress - send me your
address and I'll dupe my CD and send it to ya.

PS You'll know if it didn't decompress right because when you try to run ut it
will say something about not being able to find file entry and quit.

PSS This is assuming you are talking about UT or UT: GOTYI've not seen
anyone have trouble installing UT:2003 (but I've only used the demo here so
far).

Let me know! :-)

Hi s. Thanks for the reply.

I think you're right, the unr.uz files must be uncompressed. I went to D.
Olsons' web site, where he has a nice UT tutorial. I grabbed a different
installer from the link there, one that actually has GOTY in its name. I
tried it with both of my copies of UT (one is GOTY and the other is Best of
Infogrames). This time, it did ask for the 2nd CD (the other 436 script did
not). BTW, the GOTY version supports a 2nd CD-ROM, if you have one.
I followed his tutorials' instructions exactly, applying the chmod and
running it as ./. I also tried it with sh . Same difference, AFAICT...

What does not happen though, in my open terminal window, is all the scrolling
messages about the files being uncompressed - when the installer dialog boxs'
indicator bar is nearly to the end. It just quits, says that the game was
successfully installed, and to start it with ut. My terminal window does
finish with this though:

[root@darkforce darklord]# ./ut-install-436-GOTY.run
Verifying archive integrity...OK
Uncompressing Unreal Tournament version 436-GOTY Linux
install.
ERROR: No matching delta for /usr/local/games/ut/System/UTMenu.u

I'm at a loss here. Does anyone have any idea why my setup won't uncompress
the files that UT needs?

Thanks.

I don't really know what I'm talking about, because I haven't tried any
games in Linux yet, but, since you have a Voodoo, shouldn't you be using
Glide? UT runs under Glide much better.

Is the problem that there isn't any Glide support under Linux? I don't
really know so I'm just asking.

Okay, it appears to be that same old problem. I have a Voodoo 3000 card,
and
 all these games work:

 Quake3 (demo)
 Soldier of Fortune
 Terminus
 Descent3
 HeavyGear2

They find, or I can point them to, libGL.so.1 (or in Q3's case, the
MesaVoodooGL file) and they all work fine.

Not UT. Well, it appears to find libGL.so.1 but its like s slow...I
changed
the .ini file in /home/darklord/.loki/ut/system multiple times, pointing
it to:

 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1
(actually, I pointed it at every libGL* file in there!)

 /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1
 /home/darklord/Games/Unreal/ref_gl.so
 /home/darklord/Games/Unreal/libMesaVoodooGL.so.3.2

and so on, and so on...

Anyone else got UT working? I have v428, and applied both patches, 428 and
 428a, so...

 Thanks in advance! ;-)
