The ATI supplied drivers are also incompatible with 9.0. As I just got my RMA approved, I need to find a substitute. 1) What other options do I have? Should I go with another ATI, or something else? I hear Nvidia's are good. 2) Who makes a good Nvidia card? 3) Should I go with a Geforce3 or a Geforce4? I have a Hercules Geforce3 at home, and I am not happy with it. I hear that people are very happy with Geforce3's from other manufacturers. - Paul Rodriguez Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

Check the chipset, and that it has all the IO ports you want. 3) Should I go with a Geforce3 or a Geforce4? I have a Hercules Geforce3 at home, and I am not happy with it. I hear that people are very happy with Geforce3's from other manufacturers. IMHO, the Geforce3 falls between two stools. If your father is into 3D rendering or is a first-person shooter addict with the reflexes of a rattlesnake, go for a 4, but for most practical purposes, a Geforce2 with 64MB onboard memory is fine (most models only have 32MB, which is OK, but 64MB gives better performance for a very small price difference, I think). Re: [newbie] 3D Graphics card for 9.0? (3 questions)
I have installed two days ago a Creative 3D Blaster 4 Titanium 420 (with Nvidia Geforce4 titanium chip) and it is runing fine; even I haver reached to activate the tv-output and I can watch xine-dvds and tv decodified in my tv :-) On the other hand the acceleration 3d (DRI) is esplendid and games as Quake III, Chromium, Tuxracer are runing quite fast. Using winex transgaming also some windows games that need DRI are runing fine (Heroes 4, Ages of Empires and so on). I sincerely recomend you a Nvidia compatible (Geforce 2, 3 or 4) because the drivers of Nvidia for linux are very good. -- Francisco Alcaraz Ariza Departamento de Biología Vegetal Universidad de Murcia E-30100 Murcia España (Spain) Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Sir Robin I agree with Sir Robin, unless you are a bleeding edge gamer a Geforce 2 with 64MB onboard will run like a champ, tuxracer and ut2003 both work very well on my machine. Those are the only games I have tried that need fast frames so I can't speak to other games. Mine is an MSI Graphic card. Wow, so a Geforce4 MX will run worse than a Geforce2 vanilla? That's not a very good naming convention then. Thanks for giving me a heads up. I'll have to do some more digging and see what's available. - Paul On Tue, 2002-10-29 at 22:59, FemmeFatale wrote: Oops... forgot to say skip it in favour of the vanilla GEForce 2 Cards.
