For MDK 9.0 it's here:
ftp://csociety-ftp.ecn.purdue.edu/pub/Mandrake/9.0/contrib/RPMS/
Just scroll down till you find it, download and install with
rpm -ivh kvirc*.rpm

For MDK 9.1 it's here:
ftp://csociety-ftp.ecn.purdue.edu/pub/Mandrake/9.1/contrib/RPMS/
Just do the same as above. Then you might want to go to the plf site below
and make sure your contrib source is configured properly.

Ah thats beta one, beta two has been out for a few months now.

what version of mandrake and kde are you running?

Mandrake 9.1 KDE 3.1

if all else fails, use xchat, it's a beaut, and as far as I'm
concerned, anything that begins with a k is to be avoided.

I use xchat and its not to bad, i remeber using kvirc 2.11 in KDE 2 and
really liked it but i think they are bloating the new version of kvirc
with junk but im waiting to see what the final looks like anyway. I
need to learn text based clients though, but finding the time anymore

It's in the club contribs, actually. And I wouldn't bother. The beta is
buggier than an ant hill. About half the basic functions don't work or don't
work at all well. Hell, you can't even type /me message or /onotice
messge without it being send out in plain text. And don't even try to DCC.

As near as I can figure, KVirc is as near a dead issue as you can get. The
2.x versions, which worked like a hot damn, haven't been upgraded in about 2
years and the beta 3.x doesn't seem to have been updated in months.

They have a pretty new web site though!

They are mounted as mdk8_2 and oldhome, which seemed a good idea until I made

Re: [newbie] KVirc (Was: Wine problems)

2000-06-10 Thread Fran Parker

OK...the new KVIrc version 2 is awesome!

Now how did I get it to run, you may ask. I had the same
problems everyone else had when I tried to install the rpm.

Well, I went and got the QT2.1.1 and upgraded my existing
QT2.

Then I got the RPM and using gnorpm I installed it.

Same problem as everyone elsedoesn't work.

I Checked the configure and it showed the QT2 directories
in the wrong place I corrected it in hopes it would re-read
it the next load and then run. No go.

I uninstalled the rpm and went back to the site and got the
tar.gz instead...since pathing was the problem I hoped I could
temporarily set my QTDIR and create a version specific to
my machines configuration. It worked! And it is awesome.
I am online in KVIrc 2 as we speak!

Maybe this will work for the rest of you as well.

Read the instructions for the installation of the tar.gz on the
web site ...that really helped alot. Although I am using Bash
and I set the QTDIR slightly differently then they suggested.

Have fun,
Bambi

  hi Kevin,

I am not a Wine expert..infact I am still trying to get dosemu to work on

  Two things though.

user.dat is a system file for windows, everyone has them. I think it is
looking for it in the wrong place, mine is located on my c drive on the
  windows partition: dos_c/windows/user.dat

You can locate yours within kde with find by searching the root for user.dat

Then you can modify the config file for wine to represent where yours is.

Second, if you like mIRC, you might want to take a look at KVirc. I love
mIRC, and KVirc is a very close version of irc for linux. I really like it.

  Hope these suggestions help out.

   Hi gang.

I have been using mandrake a few weeks nows, and so far I have got everything to
work well, apart from wine. I d/loaded rpm version 2526 and installed
it.After I changed the wine.conf, I run wine, and I get the following error.

Invalid path c:\windows\Profiles\adminustrator for profile directory
   cant find users.dat

I looked though windoz and I dont seem to have those anyway. I am huge fan of
mIRC, and that is the prime reason I wish to to wine. I loaded mIRC up, and it
gave me a bunch of error messages. Too many to post on the ML

I was wondering if there are any wine experts out there, and can help me in
   private?

   Many thanx

Actually I am running it in the original KDE that came with
Mandrake 7.0 (Air) version 1.1.2-30mdk...I only had to update
QT2 to QT2.1.1 and use the tar.gz instead of the RPM.

It integrates differently with KDE 2.0 but I can't say how.
(But that is basically what the web site said)

Hope that helps some.

What version of KVirc are you running...I have the new one from the
KVirc site and it works great...as long as you don't choose the
miscellaneous button (closes program)not done yet. :)
Very nice revision.
