[newbie] drakfloppy bug?
Hey. Don't get annoyed, it's me again. As told earlier, i downloaded and installed VmWare (The Win32 version). After rebooting i tried to access linux from it, and i found out i had to have a boot floppy. So off to mandrake i go, i open the MCC and click on boot, then the drakfloppy icon. I leave everything default (there was no other choice anyways) and i hit the create button. Everything goes smoothly, and within a minute i get my linux bootdisk. So back to XP i go. I reopen VmWare, put the floppy in, and wait. This is the message i got: SYSLINUX 1.67 2002-02-03 Copyright (C) 1994-2001 H. Peter Anvin Cold not find kernel image: linux boot: _ I've tried formatting the floppy (twice) and making another boot disk (twice) and i still got the same message defiantly staring at me. Is this a bug in drakfloppy or am i doing something wrong, again? -cF

Re: [newbie] mdkkdm and kdm not working
Do you realize how geeky this sound to a non-initiated linux user like me? Whoa. At 09:57 PM 03/04/2003 -0500, you wrote: I have a strange problem that I can't find how to fix, I'm hoping someone might have a solution or at least a hint. After my first boot in 9.1 where everything worked fine (booted into KDE, changed a few settings, added 2 lines to my modules.conf so sound would work on my laptop) I rebooted and MDKKDM seemed to load properly, but logging on to any of the listed window managers only results in a background and a plain X-Console, nothing else...zip. zero. nada. I was able to su to root, init 3 and do a startx into KDE which worked fine. So I used MCC to switch to KDM. KDM gives me the same exact result. I then switched to GDM and that works. However I'd really like to fix KDM, as I like that one better. Thanks in advance for your help, Frank -- Frank Cote [EMAIL PROTECTED] Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Re: [newbie] dyndns setup and apache
That address doesn't work for me. At 01:38 PM 02/04/2003 -0800, you wrote: Hello Everyone, I am attempting to setup a personal website from my SBC Ameritech/Yahoo internet connection. I have a dynamic ip. I am also doing network address translation, but I have access to port forwarding in the router. After signing up for dyndns.org service and starting port forwarding from incoming 80 on the router to incoming 80 on my linux box I was in shock that it seems to work. I thought that Ameritech (or SBC whoever they are now) would block it since all I have is the cheap residential service. Any way I have two questions: Is there any utility bundled with Mandrake 9.1 to update my dynamic ip with dyndns.org (it must get the address from the router). Also is there any gui tools for apache. I am reading the docs now, but I think it will be awhile before I fully grasp it. Yes I know it's a very insecure setup since I don't fully understand what I'm doing, but I must learn somehow. If someone could also check http://www.bustedbox.homelinux.net/ and let me know that it's not just being served in my lan I would also appreciate it. TIA __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! [newbie] No sound!
Hey. I'm rather new to the linux world, i've tried distros such as RedHat and previous versions of Mandrake (actually every versions since 8.2). In all the distros i've tried, ELX linux was the only one that i could listen to MP3's with. I've downloaded Mandrake 9.1 today and, since i prefer the Gnome interface to KDE's, i run it with Gnome (but it doesnt work more with KDE). The first thing i tried was opening XMMS and trying to play MP3s (thost mp3's are on a separate FAT32 drive, /mtc/win_c). It didn't work. XMMS even froze up after a while. So i tried to figure it out by myself by searching linuxdoc and manpages to no avail. Then i suddenly got a genius idea: I tried to play a video file. Surprisingly, Xine has no problem with my audio, seems to be only XMMS and well system beeps an such. Is the problem related with XMMS, or Gnome, or the fact that my MP3's are on a mounted FAT drive? Re: [newbie] No sound!
Nope, it first was using aRts sound server, i switched that to alsa and now i can actually see the trackbar in XMMS scrolling, which it wasn't doing previously (it was failing connecting to the aRts soundserver obviously). But now, after all the modifications everyone in various forums/chat rooms told me to apply, Xine doesn't play audio anymore. Someone find me a rope and a stool. At 07:30 PM 01/04/2003 +0100, you wrote: You are right , there is nothing on my web site which describes your problem. If you can hear audio with xine, then obviously you have drivers installed and working. You appear to be using the alsa sound server, so install the xmms-alsa RPM and select that as the output plugin in xmmsOptionsPreferences Does that make a difference? derek On Tuesday 01 Apr 2003 7:12 pm, c0ldfusi0n wrote: Hey Anne, thanks for replying. I've checked out Derek's useful linux page and it turns out that the plugin he suggest to load in XMMS (libcdaudio.so) is already loaded an enabled.
