  soundcards: OPTi sound system e OPTi SoundExpression MPU-401.
  Can't locate module isa-pnp.

 Solo per farti perdere tempo, lo so. Ho l'identico problema, finanche la
 stessa scheda.
 all'appello.

Configurazione kernel:
CONFIG_SOUND=y
CONFIG_SOUND_OSS=m
CONFIG_SOUND_MAD16=m
CONFIG_MAD16_OLDCARD=y
CONFIG_SOUND_PSS=m
CONFIG_PSS_MIXER=y
CONFIG_SOUND_SB=m
CONFIG_SOUND_YM3812=m

Module  Size  Used by
mad16   7648   0
ad1848 16832   0 [mad16]
sb_lib 33728   0 [mad16]
uart401 6368   0 [mad16 sb_lib]
opl3   11368   0 (unused)
sound  56492   0 [mad16 ad1848 sb_lib uart401 opl3]

/etc/modules.conf
options sound dmabuf=1
options sb mad16=1
options opl3 io=0x388
options mad16 io=0x530 irq=9 dma=3 dma16=0 mpu_io=0x300 mpu_irq=5 \
joystick=1 cdtype=0x00

andava in crisi).

[newbie-it] Soundcards

soundcards: OPTi sound system e OPTi SoundExpression MPU-401.
Can't locate module isa-pnp.

[newbie] changing soundcards in Mandrake 8?

2001-06-06 Per discussione Sam

I've just swapped my SB Live! out of my machine and enabled the onboard VIA
AC'97 audio instead. I checked harddrake and the module via82cxxx_audio seems
to be loaded. The module for the Live! card seems to be no longer loaded.

However, I seem to have lost all sound running any multimedia application
(including Realplayer, XMMS etc) at all in my machine. I ran the Soundmixer
(kmix) and it only claims Invalid mixer Creative SBLive.

Is there any way to get Mandrake to use the VIA sound instead, short of
re-installing Mandrake? Thanks in advance for any help.

[newbie] ESS Soundcards

2000-08-16 Per discussione Booysen RJ

I have and ESS Soundcard but on boot up if always fails. IRQs, DMA and I/o
is correct. Running sndconf also fails on trying to play a test file.
Sound runs in KDE.

Any Help

Thank you to all who replied back to my email in regards to soundcards. I
will try all suggestions and get back to all of you. I agree that
configuring soundcards is a way to get "your hands dirty" with the new
system OS. I don't want another M$ OS and do enjoy command line operations.
If configuring a sound card is a simple task, then that just reflects my
newbie desire to learn more. Thanks again.

Jon

And how does one configure a soundcard manually (when the card included
drivers for every OS except Linux)?

Hi, Jose,

I assume you have the sound card working under another operating system,
like Windows 95. You can configure the sound card with 'sndconfig'.
You'll need to know the sound card's i/o port, irq, dma, 16-bit dma. If
you have a Sound Blaster or a clone, these values are usually 220, 5, 1,
5. You can check in the Windows Device Manager, or it'll scroll by
during bootup. The surest way to get sound is to recompile your kernel
and build in sound support. If you're running a stock Mandrake 5.3
installation, you're running kernel 2.0.36. I would recommend upgrading
to the latest kernel 2.2.6. OK, good luck,

Hidong

 Supported, but you won't be able to use the sndconfig utility to
 configure it.

  installed another sound card, but now when I run sndconfig it just hangs
  at the point where it tries to detect any pnp cards. Could anyone give

  because I had it installed in another PC and configured it to a tee.
  Please help if possible. I know I am probably just missing something

 Check to make sure that there isn't a /etc/isapnp.conf laying around
 from the installation attempts with the old card. If there is, you'll
 probably have to reboot to "clear out" that information (that's one of
 the few things you have to reboot for -- a new kernel being the other).

 After the reboot, try running sndconfig again. This _IS_ a SoundBlaster
 card, isn't it? That's about all the sndconfig utility is good for.

 If it's not, you'll probably have to do the sound configuration by
 hand. It's not difficult, but it's not as easy as choosing items from
 the sndconfig screen.

I also had the same problem. I got a sb16, and the problem was because of
my dma settings. 16 bit dma request was 3, but there was no selection of
that in the sndconfig. So I did it manually, included the sound in kernel.
Now it works fine.

Check the kernel documentation for arguments to supply to the modules, then
add lines in /etc/rc.d/rc.local to insert the modules. The configuration
parameters go in /etc/conf.modules.
