[nlug] Photo Editing ... Simplified
This is to help my wife out, she is looking at using Picnik for online picture editing. The problem is we have between no and very low bandwidth available. We need a downloadable open source, and simple program that will run on XP. This will be used in a 2 hour class, only 1 really at the computer, and this is 11 to 18 yr olds. Suggestions? Re: [nlug] cloud services/comparisons -- Stopping the thread jacking.
The whole reason for Openstack is because of the need for Eucalyptus to have copyright assignment to them. Further the fact that they can reject updates based on it conflicting with the corporate sales and inclusion of not openly released code. Any project can reject updates, anyway. Ultimately, you might have to fork it. BTW, while I didn't download the code to look for the license in it, the agreement that you have to sign to contribute code back means it is not really a fully open project. The assignment of copyrights and patents to the sponsoring corp means they can take the software in their repo private at anytime they wish. You get free as in beer but not free as in speech. Not really. In that case, you still have the software as it was up until the time it was taken private. It's still forkable from that point. [nlug] LinuxFest January 22!!!
Hey guys, Haven't heard any yellow bellied southerners complaining that they can't travel around Nashville. I am operating on the assumption that we are still on for the LinuxFest from 1000 until 1600 at Watkins College of Art, Design and Film on Rosa Parks Blvd. I just did a quick reconn run from my house into Springfield and found the roads completely fine. Okay, my one mile road to the main highway still has patches of stuff that will be ice by morning but everything else was clean. A day of sunshine, even at 20F, does a lot for clearing roads. I've got Turnkey Linux systems to discuss and demonstrate as well as other opportunities (read stuff I gotta figure out). Chris, please confirm that WCADF is available Saturday as we had planned. Not sure about its openness, but Google's Picasa is downloadable to an XP machine. Got it at work use it some. The problem is we have between no and very low bandwidth available. We need a downloadable open source, and simple program that will run on XP. Re: [nlug] LinuxFest January 22!!!
I'll be there. Roads are surprisingly clear, as long as you stay on the mains. 3 is nothing until the melt refreezes! Jim On Fri, 2011-01-21 at 18:13 -0600, Chris McQuistion wrote: Yeah. Re: [nlug] Photo Editing ... Simplified
Thanks to all. I have a list and a few downloads I gave to my wife for her to evaluate. Sofar she thinks Gimp is to complicated to teach even the basics in under an hour. So she is going to work on others. Thanks ... Jack -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups NLUG group. Virtualbox is pretty decent for that sort of thing but I don't know what the status of that project is since Oracle bought Sun.
