 Sources tell
Billboard.com that Concerts West/AEG Live, producers of Prince's
 $90 million
Musicology tour in 2004, will be working with the artist on the
 project,
 which will launch next month.

A flash graphic on the Web site 3121.com, named after the artist's
 most
recent studio album, includes the Rio plus photos of Prince and
 such artists
acts as Sheila E, Maceo Parker, Floetry, Patti LaBelle, Esthero and
 Cee-Lo,
although it is unclear what connection they have to the endeavor.

It is also unknown how regularly Prince plans to perform at the venue
formerly known as Club Rio, which has hosted a topless revue called
 Club
 Eroticka since February 2005.

Prince has been off the road in 2006 but, as first reported here,
 unveils
new music today (Oct. 31) on Atlantic's Happy Feet soundtrack.
 His Song
of the Heart was written specifically for the film, which boasts
 the voice
talents of Elijah Wood, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman and Robin
 Williams.

Onetime Prince backup vocalist returns to first musical love
 By Ron Wynn, [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 August 27, 2006

Like numerous other performers, dynamic and exciting vocalist Niyoki
got her start singing in church. But she eventually became one of
the nation's top background singers as a secular artist, heavily in
demand due to her stylistic flexibility and overall exemplary
technique. After working with such performers as Boyz II Men and R.
Kelly, she became a prominent part of Prince's ensemble, touring and
 recording with him throughout 2002.

But while she was becoming quite successful doing RB, soul and
funk, those genres weren't really what Niyoki enjoyed. She's now
returned to her true love, writing and performing inspirational
material with a modern sensibility and sound. She'll be performing
numbers from her new Contemporary Christian CD My Everything (D2G)
tonight during her CD release party at Rocketown. The disc will be
 formally released nationwide Tuesday.

I've been singing since the age of 6, and have been blessed by God
with the gift of music, Niyoki said. But now I'm really happy
about doing songs that can uplift and inspire people, particularly
young people. What I'm doing is 100 percent a ministry, because all
the songs now are a reflection of my experience, and my desire to
both praise God and also reach audiences on his behalf.

My Everything also blends current and vintage elements in its
selections. The title track reflects a jazz tinge in its
arrangement, while Yes Lord is a soaring a cappella number that
showcases her range and vocal authority, and Dance and Praise
augments her fierce lead with a striking, groove-centered
foundation. However, she also includes the traditional
number Amazing Grace and the more straightforward Praise Time.

I love hymns and spirituals, but you can't expect young people
who've grown up hearing other things on the radio to be immediately
attracted by the older styles, Niyoki said. My belief is that the
most important thing in gospel music is the message. I don't attack
or exclude a particular style just because it's not a traditional
thing. There's a whole generation out there that doesn't know
anything about classic gospel music, but they can still be reached
with a contemporary sound that still can have a positive, optimistic
 message.

With gospel and Contemporary Christian music among the few genres
enjoying improved sales results in 2006, Niyoki admitted there's a
lot more promotion, exposure and opportunity for gospel acts than
 she ever anticipated.

But to be truthful, I never really thought about singing gospel in
terms of profit or dollars, Niyoki said. It was always about the
music and expressing my love of God in song. It's been rewarding to
see the music's growth and popularity, but that's just a bonus.

Prince's NPG Music Club isn't the only thing shutting down.

The Musicology artist's wife of five years, Manuela Testolini
 Nelson, filed
for divorce on May 24, according to court documents obtained
 Wednesday by
 the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Testolini Nelson, 29, used to work for Paisley Park Studios, the
 recording
and production complex Prince opened near Minneapolis in 1987.

The duo tied the knot in 2001 in a small, super-secret Jehovah's
 Witness
ceremony in Hawaii, with the bride taking her husband's name. For
 those of
you who may have forgotten that the 48-year-old Prince has a last
 name, he
 was born Prince Robert Nelson.

While her future ex has been busy releasing a number-one album,
 performing
on Saturday Night Live and American Idol, picking up BET and Webby
 awards
and making cryptic comments, Testolini Nelson runs Gamillah Inc.,
 which
houses a production company, a line of designer candles and other
 businesses.

This was Prince's second marriage. His first, to backup singer-
 dancer Mayte
Garcia, was annulled in 1998 after two years, with Prince stating
 that the
best way to demonstrate [that they're joined for life] is to do
 away with
the legal bonds that people demand.

Speaking of legal demands, Britain's HM Publishing Holdings filed a
trademark lawsuit against Prince's NPG Music Club (named after the
 New Power
Generation) Website on July 3, protesting its use of the NPG
 moniker
because it coincides with the company's own Nature Publishing
 Group, or NPG.

Prince's attorney, David Schelzel, has said that his client's right
 to use
the name is not in jeopardy and that the decision to shut down
NPGMusicClub.com had nothing to do with the lawsuit.

but I'm not gonna sit here and say this or that song sucks or that
 it's crap
or some other odious term we can think of. I'LL just say it isn't
 my cup
of tea but I'm feelin' U. I always respect U'r oppinion my
 brotha... :-)

 few lame
songs nobody likes. Just be your a fan doesn't mean you have to
 be a
brainwashed follower devoted to whatever is thrown at you.

Many times in the last few years said Prince should put out a
commercial hit to remind people the still exists. Also, to help him
 get
these one off deals. Eventually he is going to wear out all his
 welcomes
and nobody is going to want to put out his half crap albums. -

Re: NPNY: $312.01...

2006-05-12 Thread Michael Byrdsong
Hey I work in a K-5 school. the kids know who Prince is and it is not
because of any lessons taught my me... I think that MTV was their
teacher for that one.
Anyway, why do we all get upset because of Prince's business
practices? If he sells a million in a week or 20 in a week, what
matters is how we (as individuals) react to the songs and music. Who
cares about the mass population? Prince never has, why should he
start now?

PS: OK I exaggerated slightly when I said that the kids know who
Prince is. What I should have said is that I was surprised to see
that so many children who know who Prince is.

Brilliant... to get publicity? But what good has that publicity

If anything it has only warped his sense of reality and

 more.

I think that Prince's courtship with celebrities and other peeps that
know which fork to use, is brilliant. What better way to get media
publicity... the paparazzi are always around to catch a pic of the
latest celeb at a party. How many paparazzi did you see at Paisley
 Park during the celebrations?

PS: Don't mind Derek you guys... he is a cool guy and he loves Prince
as much as the rest of us does, don't you believe anything else :-)

Well I'll had my 3 dollars and a dime to your 2 cents to get 3.12 :)

Like I said, Prince is going for folks who know which fork to use,
but could not dance... eventually all he'll be left with is a bunch
of unfunky people who have no interest in his new creations 'cuz
 they
too busy fiending for yesterday's leftovers.

It's called cutting off your nose to spite your face. Or more

short-term thinking. Let me grab the big bucks NOW and hope the
 future
takes care of itself--- if I have any fans left.

 Just my 2cents.
