Hi Niels, I had similar questions about this 4 or 5 months ago and as far as I could tell there is no feature in OTRS that allows this functionality. I have developed a few modules that give this functionality. I can email you a zipped version of my changes to OTRS. Unfortunately I am in the process of doing diffs against the main source to figure out all the changes that I have made so I won't be able to just send you a copy of only the changes. Also, the code is in its infancy and hasn't been well tested. It is being used and I haven't found any bugs so far, it is just a warning that we are a very small company and I am just a part time student who has been working on the project by himself. Although maybe this is a chance for the two of us to work on it together if you have any developmental experience and have plans to modify the OTRS code yourself. If you have time and can give me until mid January I will have diffs done and know where and which code needs to be inserted. I will also have upgraded my version to be using the latest version of OTRS, which I believe is 2.2.4. Currently my changes are applied to 2.2.2. Hey Harry, I don't have any instructions on how to do this. I had similar questions to this list sent a while back but no one replied. Your best bet is to extract the source from the Windows installation and then follow the instructions for Linux. Some won't be too helpful but I am sure it can prove to be a good starting ground. You will need to install perl, cronw (unless you have other options already on the server), the required perl modules and mod_perl for apache, the last option there is a way to compile mod_perl when apache has already been installed. I think a good way around this would be to install OTRS on a desktop and look how it lays out the directories and configuration files. Sorry I can't be any more help. [otrs] Default queue for phone and email tickets
I want to set a default queue when an agent is creating a new phone and email ticket. I have found the setting Frontend::Agent::Ticket::ViewPhoneNew <http://192.168.168.127/otrs/index.pl?Action=AdminSysConfig&Subaction=Edit&SysConfigSubGroup=Frontend::Agent::Ticket::ViewPhoneNew&SysConfigGroup=Ticket> in sysconfig and set it to the appropriate queue but when an agent goes to a new phone ticket nothing is selected in the drop down box for the queue. I also can't find the appropriate setting in sysconfig to set the default queue when an agent is creating a new email ticket. Thanks for any help offered. [otrs] More then 10000 customers
Hey list, I have an issue; my customer_user table has grown considerably in the last little while to slightly above 1 customers. Now when I click on the customer link and try and search for a customer I receive the following error: Software error: Can't call method "fetchrow_array" on an undefined value at C:/OTRS/otrs//Kernel/System/DB.pm line 543. For help, please send mail to the webmaster ([EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ), giving this error message and the time and date of the error. Oh sorry, I added the lines in my httpd.conf file for apache. Anywhere in the file should work. I guess by default perl does not take your OS's environment variables so occasionally you have to set them in the httpd.conf file. There is a way for it to take the OS's environment variables but I am unsure how that is done. Hi, I had an issue with character sets being converted incorrectly. My issue was when data passed through mod_perl to and from the database. What I did to fix it is take the NLS_LANG environment variable and also make it a perl environment variable. The code I added was in the httpd.conf file for apache and it looked like the code below: PerlSetEnv NLS_LANG AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1 PerlPassEnv NLS_LANG Just replace the character set that you are using in your database and with LDAP. It may work but it may not. I am not using LDAP at all but I am using Oracle 10g. Let me know if it works out for you. Hi Carlos, I had the same issue with french special characters. I had to add a mod_perl environment variable so it used the same character set that the database was using for its character encoding. I am using Oracle as a backend and had to set NLS_LANG as a unix environment variable. I also had to set a perl environment variable because I guess it does not get the ones from the server. What does the error say that you are receiving? I had two issues before I fixed the problem. One was that all special characters would show up as question marks. The second was that if I had a special character in the Subject line of an incoming or outgoing email ticket or a phone ticket I would receive an error and the ticket wasn't processed or added to the queue, I'm sorry I don't remember what the error message was. The lines of code I used to fix this was placed in the httpd.conf file for apache. It is below: PerlSetEnv NLS_LANG AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1 PerlPassEnv NLS_LANG The following commands might need to be placed in the .profile file of a user that runs OTRS, apache, or your database or a combination of the three. I haven't experimented this far because I just fixed my problem late yesterday so I don't know if any or all are required. [otrs] Special characters
I emailed this problem a few weeks ago. It relates to special characters being saved in the database from the application. Whenever it saves special characters, such as é and so on somewhere along the line it is converted to a question mark. I have done extensive investigation to fix this problem but have fallen short on fixing it for OTRS. Attempts to narrow down where the conversion from an 'é' to a '?' has given me the thought that it is happening somewhere within the OTRS system or on an agents computer or web browser. This is due to being able to successfully insert a 'é' into the database using sqlplus and successfully being able to select that data from the database using sqlplus. I also wrote a perl test script that would insert a special character into the database and then read and display the results. It was able to do this successfully. As far as I can tell the data should be in iso-8859-1 character set all throughout the process from being typed in at the browser, to being placed in a perl variable, inserting it into the database and then selecting it from the database. If anyone has any ideas on what I can do to solve my issue or have any questions that can clarify my problem please send me an email. Thank you for the help. RE: [otrs] French characters
Well, I have found some other weird problems that have something to do with character sets. First off I will state that my character set for oracle is iso-8859-1 and the national one is set to AL16UTF16. OTRS is set to iso-8859-1. I edited the question marks that had replaced that French characters in the database using a program called TOAD. I could view the data properly using toad after I had committed the changes. Now when I compose an email in OTRS the signature has regular characters replacing the French ones with the accents and such above them. Another issue is that if I change OTRS's character set to UTF-8 and insert French characters into the subject of an email I receive the error below. I can insert them into the body of the email but not the subject. When I insert them into the body of the email then they return to the regular characters without the accent. [otrs] French characters
Hello list, I am trying to have text that includes French characters such as the one below. The problem seems to be that when you commit something to the database any French characters end up being inserted or converted in the columns of the database as question marks. É é é é é turns into ? ? ? ? ? Does anyone know what is wrong? I have set the default character set to utf-8 but that didn't work. I am using OTRS 2.2.2 with an oracle 10g backend. [otrs] Download only email fetching
Is there a way to have OTRS only download emails from a pop server as opposed to having them transfered from the server into the OTRS system? Or a way of sending emails the OTRS system fetches to a secondary email address that can be used as a backup? Hi Justin, One option is the method Laurent mentions. Another method would be to add your own custom field in sysconfig instead of changing how one of the defaults works. Another option is to add a custom field in sysconfig under Frontend::Agent::Ticket::MenuModulePre. The code must be added in Ticket.xml under the Kernel/Config/Files directory. The second method allows you to create the functionality you need without removing any of the existing functionality that you may want for future needs. [otrs] Creating a scalar in Config.pm and using in AgentTicketMailbox.pm
Hi, I want to create a scalar in Config.pm something like
$Self->{'AgentTicketMailboxView'} = 'From To Cc Type Subject'
And then use the value to select which fields are displayed in the agent ticket
mailbox, the line of code would be as follows
foreach(qw($Self->{'AgentTicketMailboxView'})) {...
I then restart apache and load the locked ticket page. When the page loads the
normal view for the tickets has changed but instead of inserting the Type which
is what my goal is the fields for From To Cc Subject have all disappeared and
nothing is displayed on the left half of each ticket.

Okay, if you look under the Defaults.pm file you will see a section under the
comment "CustomerUser stuff". The customer is configured there starting with
the line "Self->{CustomerUser}".
The line that says "Map => [" is the start of parameters for the customer user.
All you have to do is add a line for the expiration date as well as add the
field into your database.
Sorry I am unsure about the rest of the question. Having it change a customer
to be invalid automatically is beyond my knowledge but possible you could
create a GenericAgent that could do this that will run once every night.

[otrs] Ticket types not functioning properly.
Hi list, I wanted to use the new functionality to assign types to tickets but I have it to be very buggy or not working 100% as far as I can tell. I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction to make some changes either in code or somewhere in sysconfig. The first thing that really needs to be done is for a default type to be assigned. Right now I think the first type I created is being assigned to every ticket. This annoyed me so I made all the types I created to be invalid but for some reason new tickets that come in are still given the first type that I created. The second thing that I would like to accomplish is to modify the type functionality so emails sent to different address are assigned certain types. I am new to developing in OTRS so any help or initial guidance will be greatly appreciated. I would like to make the customer comment field larger so it can handle multiple lines of text. I know I have to change the varchar size on the database. [otrs] PostMasterPOP3 cron job
I am having an issue with OTRS. I installed version 2.2 and since than my cron job running PostMasterPOP3.pl won't run automatically although I can run it manually using the command # perl PostMasterPOP3.pl I am receiving the following error in my log file [Thu Jul 26 15:57:02 2007][Error][Kernel::System::DB::new][173] ERROR OCIEnvNlsCreate. Check ORACLE_HOME env var, NLS settings, permissions, etc. I had this successfully working before but now I am not having any luck. Does anyone know a solution to my problem? As a side note I am using an Oracle backend on a Sun Solaris 9 server. Everything seems to be functional within OTRS except the cronjob. Thanks for any help offered. [otrs] Modifying AdminCustomerUserForm?
I am trying to modify the labels for the fields when adding a Customer User. I want to change the label Salutation to gender or just add a field for gender. I am attempting to do this in the file named AdminCustomerUser.dtl but I don't see any place where Salutation is listed in the file. [otrs] Installing mod_perl
I have installed modperl and now see the lines in the httpd.conf file that load the module but I don't seem to have any increased performance with OTRS on a Unix computer. I have installed the same software on a Win32 computer and it runs much faster than the Unix computer. I am installing mod_perl 1.3 with Apache 1.3.34 on the Unix computer. The version on the Win32 computer is whatever is installed with the installation program provided by OTRS. I installed OTRS using APXS because Apache was already installed on the Unix computer. Does anyone have an explanation and/or fix for this? Thanks for the help. [otrs] List of agents
I am new to developing in OTRS and perl and might have a very basic question. I want to modify the look of the tickets so it provides a drop down list with Agents names so each ticket can be assigned to an agent very easily. I would like it to look like the Change Queue drop down list. Does anyone know how this would be done? Or if there is an easy way to do it? Thanks for the help. [otrs] Two notification emails sent when changing ticket owner.
Does anyone know why two notification emails are sent when a ticket changes ownership? One email is standard and the body can be edited in the Notification area of the Admin section. The other is an email about a new note that must be typed up when changing ownership of a ticket. How do you disable this email about the new note? Having two emails sent everytime a ticket is assigned an owner is quite annoying. Thanks for any help offered. Hello list, I have recently setup OTRS and I am wondering how you might use this with Active Directory. Would it be the same configuration if I was configuring for LDAP? [otrs] File permissions not correct for SysConfig
I am having an issue with file permissions for OTRS 2.1.7. I have run the SetPermissions.sh file before and after I received the permission errors. The two areas I have noticed so far are the SysConfig and Package Manager. The SysConfig error is below: Message: Can't write /opt/carms-utils/otrs/Kernel/Config/Files/ZZZAAuto.pm: Permission denied. The Package Manager error is not helpful. It simply states I don't have write permissions on OTRS home and should run SetPermissions.sh and as I stated before running SetPermissions.sh has had no effect. I checked the permissions on ZZZAAuto.pm and it is set to 664. I changed the permissions to 666 and the SysConfig section worked fine. The problem is, as far as I can tell using the permissions 664 for ZZZAAuton.pm should work. My only guess is that perl is running under a different user other then the one that is run my webserver, otrs, or perl. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am at a loss as to why this does not work. Does anyone know how to find out which user is running perl? This would allow me to find out if that user applies to the other category in the file permissions and would then be denied access. [otrs] Problems downloading email from server.
I am having an issue but I have no idea where to look. I have an email address that I want OTRS to download all the emails from. I thought this was working on Friday before I went home for the weekend. I seem to have come in this morning and it won't retrieve the emails and place them in the queue. I am positive I have the pop3 set up correct. I haven't made any changes except for installing a bunch of the extra packages. The Calendar, Survey, FAQ, Benchmark, SystemStatus, and WebWatcher are the packages I have installed. Does anyone know where I can start looking for error messages and the such? I don't see any at all and not sure where to look. OTRS will refresh but there is no error message when it does and the emails stay in outlooks inbox. Thanks for the help. Hello, I think there are two places to change this. I'm not sure which is truly correct. The first one is in the admin area. Click on the Users link and change the [EMAIL PROTECTED] email address. The second place is in Admin again under the System heading, if you click on the Email Address link. Then change the OTRS System email address. One of those two will change it. I think the second one will do it but I am not positive. Hope that helps. I have perl 5.6 and 5.8 installed on a Unix comptuer. The $PATH variable references perl version 5.8 and I have confirmed that by running perl -v. The problem I am having is that when I run otrs.checkModules I do not see any of the modules I have already installed in perl. Such as DBI and Date::Format. If I run perl otrs.checkModules then I receive the correct output. What I have found is that otrs.checkModules somehow runs perl version 5.6. Does anyone know how to fix it so it uses the perl that is references in the PATH variable? Thanks for the help. Okay so I installed gc++ but I am still having the same error. I made sure that the directory that gcc was installed in was in the PATH variable. Not sure where to procede. One issue that it might be is that I may have to also add the gcc path to some @INC variable used by Perl. Is this correct and if so how do I modify it? Thanks for the help. Hi, I am attempting to run OTRS on a Windows XP computer using Apache and MS SQL. I have setup the database using the MS SQL scripts provided by OTRS, although they needed a few minor changes. I then edited the Config.pm file so OTRS will connect to my MS SQL database. I then ran CheckDB.pl to confirm that Config.pm was configured properly to connect to my database and everything checked out fine. After that I tried going to OTRS to see if it worked. I typed in localhost/otrs/index.pl into my web browser and I received the following error. Software error: Not a CODE reference at C:/OTRS/otrs//Kernel/System/Ticket.pm line 136, line 12. I have convinced them to use Apache but not MySQL so that seems to be a good

If using Windows I would highly recommend using the environment provided as a
base in the Windows installer. Once this is installed you can disable undesired
services and/or selectively uninstall components.
Is there a particular reason you need to use IIS? I am under the impression
that getting IIS to support CGI is something of a pain. There are four options
I can see:
1) Configure apache to run on another port, and simply link to the OTRS install
on apache (http://hostname:newportnum/otrs/index.pl) - Trivial to implement
2) Configure apache to run on another port, and proxy requests to IIS for /otrs
to apache.
3) Configure IIS to run on another port, and proxy requests for non-otrs paths
to IIS from apache.
4) Configure IIS to invoke perl for CGI.
I can provide hints on how to configure apache for each of the first three
options, but can provide no insight on configuring IIS for the last three.
As for MS SQL, there is a schema provided you can use to create the OTRS
database in SQL Server, although minor changes may be needed. If necessary I
can provide the modified schema files we are using. You will need to install a
database backend package for the database; we chose to use DBD::ODBC. You can
install this from the Perl Package Manager; look for ppm.bat in the perl
installation. You can then configure the database to use an ODBC DSN created
for use with an SQL Server database.
Note also that 2.1.7 provides a major stability improvement over 2.1.6; we used
the 2.1.7 source package to install the upgrade on top of the 2.1.6 binary
install package. Note the schema alterations needed in the readme
(VARCHAR(MAX)->TEXT).

I was uninstalling the installation executable. I need to install OTRS on
windows but I have to use IIS and Microsoft SQL Server. I haven't been able to
find any documentation on how to do but the admin documentation does say OTRS
will run using IIS and SQL Server.

My bad, looked at your message again and relized how dumb I sounded. I run off
of Linux but went and looked at the lastest installation notes from otrs.org
Installing OTRS on a Microsoft Window system is very easy. Download the latest
installer for Win32 from http://www.otrs.org and save the file to your local
file system. Then simply click on the file to execute the installer. Follow the
few installation steps to setup the system, after installation you should be
able to login as OTRS administrator.
Important
The Win32 installer for OTRS contains all needed components for the trouble
ticket system. That means, that also the apache2 web server, the MySQL database
server, perl with all needed modules and cron for Windows will be installed.
For that reason you should only install OTRS on Windows systems that don't
already have apache2 or another web server and MySQL installed.

Looked at the download from OTRS and its a exe file. So I would think that
that was the installation executable? What file are you unzipping or does the
exe create the zip?

and noticed I would have to uncomment a few lines out so it asks me for the
directory to install Perl and such. I tried running the PerlInstaller.bat
script. but returned an error. It happens after copying the files, editing a
bunch of text files, and cleaning out the backups. It then prints to the console
Relocating...Undefined subroutine &main::run called at PerlInstaller.bat line
163, <$reloc> line 1.
Line 163 looks as follows:
run("[EMAIL PROTECTED]", "-r", $f);
I'm not sure what is wrong with this line and why it says this. My guess is
that the subroutine run is not define anywhere in the PerlInstaller.bat file.
Anyone with suggestions would be great help.

[otrs] Installing on SBS 2003 with IIS and SQL Server 2005
Hi, I have installed OTRS successfully on a Windows 2003 desktop using Apache and MySQL just to test out the functionality and allow my boss to see the capabilities of the project. Although my project requires it to run on SBS 2003 using IIS and SQL Server. Does anyone have documentation or hints guiding the setup process for this? Also, do you know of any issues if Apache and MySQL were installed on a SBS 2003 that has IIS and SQL Server running on it? Thanks for the help.
