info about creative muvo2

2005-02-25 Thread Alf
Hello.
For the last few days i'm searching for an mp3 player which could be also my
portable hard drive. I wanted to buy an ipod shuffle, but since i can't turn
of its built in shuffel feature that i can play tracks normally, i gave up,
and right now i think about creative muvo2 wich has 4 gb of space on its
hard drive. Now the question is, is the device compleetly accsesible for us,
and can we use it. Is it complecated to make voice recordings on it? Write
everything you can about it, or send some url where are some accsesible
reviews about this unit.

Re: info about creative muvo2

2005-02-25 Thread Kristine Hickerson
Hello List,

Well, for what it's worth, I spoke to the Muvo people on the phone about a
month ago, and they said the only one of their players that they thought
would really be accessable was the little 128 MB player.

Now keep in mind that these people really don't understand much about
accessability and what might seem unaccessable to them might actually be
able to be made workable for us with some sighted assistance. However,
since I was not sure, I didn't purchase one. I looked at their website and
they have several player/recorders there but I don't have a clu which ones
might be accessable. Maybe someone on this list has tried a different one.
I can only report what they told me and don't know if they really knew what
they were talking about or not.

If I were in the market for a hard-drive mp3 player and file carrier, I
would try to find one of the machines that supports rockbox. Go to
www.rockbox.org for the list of players. You can get some good deals on
E-bay for some of them, and at least one is still made.

Another RAY DVD question

2005-02-25 Thread Cynthia Handel
You know I've been having trouble figuring out how to play the RAY DVD on my
computer with Power DVD. Here's a question, which someone might be able to
answer.

When I put the DVD in, it starts to play "Georgia". It plays part of it,
and then I hear applause. Then, it starts to play it, again. I don't know
how many times it plays it, but it seems that it's just playing the same
thing over and over again. Is it supposed to do this, or is Power DVD in
some setting it shouldn't be in; preventing the DVD to play all the way
through?

Ok here we go!! I have now managed to get total recorder to record

I notice that when I load say radio 4 then start recording even thoe I

I also notice that my screen reader stops working and I don't know

Am I wrong? I am sorry if I'm not doing a very good job of explaining

Why certainly. As I recall, it defaults to 44.1khz stereo, but it can be set

cuz most people using them are into to making cd's.

Re: New high quality recorder from Olympus

2005-02-25 Thread Andy
Hi Michael.
I've been searching for details via WebFerret on the Olympus DS-2 but cannot
find anything. Can you give me the url of a supplier in the UK, so I can
check it out and if possible, some idea of the cost.?

Best wishes.

Subject: New high quality recorder from Olympus

Olympus has released the DS-2. This flash recorder has a maximum
recording frequency of 17000 Hertz, much better than their other
dictation recorders. It achieves this with its S-HQ mode: Microsoft
Windows Media Audio 44.1 KHZ, 64 KBPS. It has a USB port and it works as
a drive on a PC. Sounds great, but ...
It records onto its built-in memory and it has only 64 mb. Therefore the
maximum recording time in S-HQ is one hour and five minutes. It uses two
AAA batteries and the specs say, that one can record up to 15 hours with
one set. That's much better than the Edirol R1, which can only record up
to one hour with two AA batteries. It's interesting to compare the two.
The Olympus doesn't seem to have a built-in microphone, it has a 1.8
stereo mic mini jack. The Edirol has a built-in mic, but it doesn't have
a built-in speaker, which the DS-2 has. Also, one can manually set the
recording volume on the Edirol, but as much as I know, this isn't
possible with the Olympus.
All in all, I'd say that these recorders are promissing, but they both
have some significant limitations. The DS-2 costs around 199 Euros here
in Germany.

Re: Wavepad questions;:

2005-02-25 Thread Susan Wojtecki
Hello,
I have not used Wavepad but have used similar programs and am relatively
sure of your problem. If you use software speech, even though you may have
what is called a multichannel soundcard you cannot technically split the
sounds so that only the stream you want to record is "heard." in other
words, it is not like having stereo headphones ... in fact, if you connect
headphones to your PC, this is the reason you cannot hear both sound sources
one in each ear. The only way to assure that your screenreader speech does
not bleed into the recording is either to unload it completely or to get a
hardware synthesizer or a second soundcard for use by your screenreader
exclusively. if you have already done these things, I'm not sure what your
problem is. Hope this makes sense.

Re: total recorder questions

2005-02-25 Thread Susan Wojtecki
Kevin,
Are you using software speech? If so, you have to realize that the stream
is one sound source and the total recorder driver essentially acts as the
second one. If you were able to use JAWS speech while running Total
Recorder through Eloquence or whatever your software speech, you would
probably have a driver conflict with RealPlayer or Winamp or whichever
program plays the stream. Only way around this that I know of is to use a
hardware synthe or a second soundcard to run JAWS. If you do this the
speech will not be recorded and you can certainly multitask. I can only
speak from my experience with Windows 98 and don't know if there is anything
about the XP configuration to allow what you want to do, but I imagine
others will comment if they have been successful running TR with software
speech. I don't think most people do.

By the way, I don't think you have this problem with on board recording
because I don't think the driver is involved. Again, the experts will
doubtless correct me if I'm wrong.

I use HJ Pad to read M3U files.
if you want to edit a mp3 tag, you can use winamp.
while in winamp, stop the music.
then press alt+3 on the top row. then use the tab key to move to the
field
you want to edit. the press alt+U when done.

Subject: MPU and any other tracklists

Hi
Is there anything definitive about creating and altering playlists?
I need to be able to change the text on some of the playlists I create
but they often go back to the original tags with their original names.
Also how can I print some of these playlists - I can't seem to get them
into a document that can print them.
I assume there must be some editor/printer but as I'm only new to this
I
can't find a way.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Hi,
It's because it starts in the dvd's main menu where there exists a bunch of
diferent things sighted people would click on. Audio setup, in which angle you
want to watch the movie and lots of extras on the dvd.
Typically but not always the main movie on the disk is the first item in such a
menu and there for it mostly works just to press enter.

Best regards

I'm very interested in trying it, because I know that the sound quality is
absolutely incredible!

Kevin, make sure both occurrences of Use Directly are checked in
settings. For the moment, make sure you aren't using the Accelerated
recording function under Recording Source and Perameters. If your screen
reader conflicts aren't solved by this, and you're using JAWS, I or the
folks at High Criteria can send you a .reg file which in my case solved the
problems.

Re: Wavepad questions;:

2005-02-25 Thread Dean Martineau

The one program which allows you to capture audio streams simultaneously
while using software speech, and does not capture the software speech at
all, is Total Recorder. Perhaps other software has this ability, but in my
experience, Goldwave and Sound Forge do not have it. Probably Wavepad
doesn't either.

In order for this to work with Total Recorder, under Settings off the
Options menu, the two check boxes for Use Directly have to be
checked. Also, there was a time when it didn't work on my system, and the
folks from HighCriteria sent me a .reg file which altered the registry so
that JFW and TR could coexist.
