Lisa, it's total recorder. Go to highcriteria.com and download the
standard version of total recorder. In order to get it to work you'll
need to register it. And after you've downloaded it, write to
highcriteria and get a registration key and then register it in total
recorder and you should be set to go. But there's a tutorial on total
recorder on the ACB web site. Give a listen, and you'll know the
operating instructions on how to run it. I have it and it's really blind
friendly. You'll need the lame encoder to make it convert and record to
MP3 on the fly. And some one on this list should be able to give you the
address to get the lame encoder. Make sure you install it and set the bit
rate and to record in stereo or mono or else it won't record and convert
to MP3 properly. You can either record from sound board which is to
record from anything you plug in to your sound card. And software, which
will let it record from an internet stream. Hope this helps.
Take care,
Kevin

Fortunately, in xp, at least, there's an option to reset, so I did that

2005-05-21 Thread Dean masters
Station Ripper will record just the audio stream and not any other sound
that comes through your speakers. If you are recording an internet only
station then each song will be saved with its own titgle, etc. as the file
name. If it is a real radio station that is over the net it will be one
incomplete file that you will have to edit. Find it at:

I have both WindowEyes and Jaws and I tried music match plus myself. But I
couldn't get it to work with line in recordings so I gave it up. I agree
with your point about not dismissing it lightly. When there is a popular
program out there, I figure it became popular due to the features that it
offers and I'd like to at least be able to try it.

Hi Lisa. Replay Radio is also worth a try. It works well with either Jaws

up timed recordings. just a personal preference thing, I suppose, but you

Allison,

Are you using version 3.31 of WinMx? To my knowledge, scripts haven't yet
been written for the later version (3.53).

Also, it might be worth checking you have the correct installation path:
c:\documents and settings\username\application data\freedom
scientific\jaws\6.x\settings\enu. Note X is for the exact version of JFW you
have - whether it be 6.0, or .1. HTH

Cheers,

You could try TextAloud to convert text into WAV or MP3 files. You can
download it on a try and buy basis and it's inexpensive if you decide to go
for it.

 Hi everybody,

I'm new to this topic, so I hope I ask the correct questions.

Basically, what I am looking for is an accessible and effective way to
convert text or MS Word files into mp3 or wav. I use Open Book currently,
but I imagine there is something out there which would more adequately
meet
 my needs.

 Any ideas?

So far as I'm aware, there *is* in the current version of Open Book (version

Yardbird,

I recently tried and purchased TextAloud, and just love it. I like to copy
files to a cdrw, and listen to them on my Victor Reader Classic. It's
really one of the best buys I've made in a while. The rendering is only as
good as my error correcting job after scanning a document or book with
Openbook. Give it a try, and I think you'll be hooked on this one.

Re: converting text to audio

2005-05-21 Thread Larry Higgins

Yardbird,

First of all, I think I accidently addressed my previous message on this
issue to you rather than Scott, who originally posted the enquiry
concerning this matter. Anyway, what I wanted to say regarding the facility
for converting text files to mp3 within Openbook is this. Openbooks option
has two major flaws. The first is that the rendering of the audio is a bit
uneven, in that it tends to pause at inappropriate intervals, as well as
introducing annoying pops and such. Another problem is that you are stuck
with only one setting for both bit rate, as well as sampling rate. This
really makes a difference in that if you record your text at 128/44100khz
stereo rather than at say 32KBPs/22.05khz mono, fast forwarding and
rewinding take quite a bit longer. This lower setting doesn't cause any
noticeable deterioration sound quality, at least not on the Victor Reader
Classic. Not to mention you can cram more books and docs onto a single
disc.

DVD playing

2005-05-21 Thread Peter Scanlon
I have little experience with playing DVD's on my computer or on a mini hi
fi system I have.

I have just purchased the movie Ray with audio description.

I try to run it in Windows Media and Power DVD with little success.

All I can get is a short audio track of Georgia On My Mind. I don't know
if video goes with this.

How can I access the rest of the movie?

How do I accesss the Audio Description. In Windows Media, I have explored
the menus and find one sub menu which give a choice about Visually Impaired
but it is not available.

I don't see menues in Power DVD.
I don't get any further on my Mini Hi Fi system.

Winamp Version 5.091 Final is now Available

Winamp version 5.091 final is now available and one place where you
can get it is at
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Winamp_5_Full/1066336873/1.
This is different to the version of Winamp 5.091 that was released a
few days ago according to a comment on the Beta News home page at
www.betanews.com which says: Note: This build is newer than
previous one posted here on May 19, 2005. Also the installation
file for this build of Winamp 5.091 is significantly smaller than the
first build of this version. The size of the installation file for
the original build was 8,976,192 bytes and the size of the
installation file for this newer build is 5,090,152 bytes. Apart
from this change I don't know what other changes have been made in this build.

Re: converting text to audio

2005-05-21 Thread Larry Higgins

Yardbird,

I really wasn't so much singing the praises of the Victor, but I will if
it's called for.I figure however, that most people who wan to go to the
trouble to convert text files to an audio format aren't likely to listen to
them on a computer that also has a screen reader. They are most likely
concerned with both the quality of the output, as well as the number of
books and such that can be ported around on one cd, rather than having to
carry around many. That's the reason I mentioned in particular the Victor
Reader, although I'm sure that any mp3 player, especially with bookmarking
or recall capability would suffice
