windows media for DVD's
is it at all possible to use windows media player either nine or ten, please be specific when answering --- to play dvd's and listen to the descriptive audio, if it exists on the dvd in question?? what special codex does one need, and is it absolutely necessary to use win dvd or power dvd or can these very well hidden windows media player dvd playing codex be found somewhere thus enabling windows media player with just some proper codex packs, to play and inter act with dvd's across the markets??? basically is either of the two big boys needed or just a set of properly configured audio / video codex to play dvd's using media player nine / ten Roger R. Hi, Yes it definately is. You can tab once then it usually don't say a thing or maybe video something. Then press enter or downarow to the next item. Movies are typically not accessible as the menus are build up of pictures. Best regards Brian - Original Message - From: Roger R. Re: looking for a portable MP3 player but not a walkman type
hey my best suggestion is a standard mp3 player with some portable speaks tj - Original Message - From: joanne [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: pc-audio pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Wednesday, December 07, 2005 7:21 AM Subject: looking for a portable MP3 player but not a walkman type I know the subject of MP3 players has come up but not having the need for one I don't know if this particular type of player has been discussed. A blind friend wants an MP3 player but one with its own speakers in it and not one like a walkman that would always require the wearing of headphones. He's wanting one that's a little bigger and that he can play his CD's and/or MP3's while working in his shop--something designed like the ghetto blasters as they were called. I have a Bose system but I think he's wanting something that can be battery-powered or plugged into the wall, and my Bose only runs off electricity. Does anyone know of a good MP3 player with accessible buttons, and if you also know an approximate price range will you let me know that as well? The upper right status bar displays a command count (unlicensed usage), which gives you a rough idea of how much you use the program. How can I read this count? I have an opened file with cue points dropped. I see how to move from one cue point to the next with Control+J. Can I ask GoldWave to start playing at the current cue point after hitting Control+j? I do see how to start playing from a given cue point shown in the cue points dialog. The problem here is that the fast forward, rewind and pause (F5,F6 and F7) don't work for me in this dialog . Audible and Java
Some of you may have noticed that Audible has now switched to java for their downloading options. I have therefore downloaded a Java Runtime Environment. So, can anyone explain why I might still be getting the Cannot find server ... Page cannot be displayed blurby everytime I try to download from audible -- or SoundRangers.com -- or Walmart.com or ... basically anywhere anymore? Yes, my browser seems to be configured correctly. Emphasis on the seems to be. The Java tab on the control pannel, however ... well, JFW didn't read that at all ... so who knows if that's configured correctly! Any suggestions? Muchos Thanksos, Sarah Heesen PS - I am using JFW 5.0 if that means anything. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Re: the luxpro tangent
I'm not sure about now, but when I told them that my nitress was dead, they gave me a lot of things to do, which was good. Then finally I got told that bad news the harddrive was shot. Actually, that last nitress lasted me about a year, and I thoughrely enjoyed the player itself. It was accesible, and has a decent memory. I'm not saying rio's bad, just that those 3 players I had were lemons, or defective. - Original Message - From: TJ Olsen [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. Re: the luxpro tangent
The PNY vibe is around $170, and requires no software. I like it for its portability, and its good sound. It will last for well over 20 hours on one tripple a battery, and has FM radio, voice recording feature, etc etc. (32kbps). You can also record the radio; the one thing I don't like about it is the following. (I'll probably contact there tech support and ask for a future firmware). When I am reading a book, and turn the power off, it returns to the beginning of the book, not where I left off. I am appalled by this, because you'd think there would be such a feature. I didn't know this at first glance, but the player supports folders. And what it lacks in resuming it makes up for in sound, a veriety of play modes/ equilizer/ and a portability/sound quolity. Re: usb sound cards
Dean, I use a Creative Labs MP3+ (that is, mp3 plus) which cost me all of $34.00 from Tiger Direct. It has R C A jacks for in and out, and it has 3.5 mm. stereo jacks as well. The down side of this U S B sound card is that a lot of hiss is present when recording from the mike input. One card which is highly recommended which I have not tried is an Imic by Griffin Technology. I saw this thing on sale within the past week for $28.00 from J and R. Music. Oh, the one I found at the local computer store was $300 or so. That one is the audigy external. RE: Hard Disk-based MP3 Player
Hi The one I had for a very brief period was completely inaccessible. I still like my Iriver h320 - especially for accessibility. And at rockbox.org they are busy working on a firmware version which will actually allow the player to have a talking interface. A friend had that Creative hard drive based mp3 player. I got to use it for a short while but couldn't select songs to play without sighted assistance. Not sure if Creative has more than one range of hard drive players. It was a 20 GB model but I can't remember the exact model number. Regards, Kiran Kaja Code Factory S.L. I sent an e-mail to him asking for the model name/number. But he is not so tecch savvy and may not remember it at all. Don't you guys have the 30 day return policy stuff in the US at all? I am also on the lookout for a hard drive based mp3 player. In addition to the requirements mentioned here, I would also like that one to be ale to record audio with a good quality microphone and if possible should also contain an AM/FM radio. RE: Hard Disk-based MP3 Player
Hi Kiran I wouldn't change my Iriver h320 for anything! Not only is it reasonably accessible, but the recording quality is the best I have heard from any player of its size. Another exciting development is that the folks at rockbox.org is working on alternative firmware that may actually give the player a speech interface. I believe this is not possible with flash-based players.
