LIST VIEWS IN BEARSHARE

2005-12-28 Thread André van Deventer
Hi all

I am using Bearshare Pro with some success.

However, I sometimes find it rather difficult to navigate the find and
download olist views, even with the Jaws cursor. And I also know that a
friend of mine using WinEyes has the same problem.

Has anyone found a workaround for this?

Regards

Andre

Hi
I'm looking for a decent pair of speakers, preferably of the 2.1
variety, for playing music. Yes, there are hundreds and hundreds of
brands and models out there but if I were to use the words
clarity, projection and warmth would you be able to name any product
which bears those qualities in its performance?

Thanks,

Musicmatch is just a player. There're plenty of them that can
replace that like Windows Media Player or Realplayer. I am not
  aware
that Musicmatch has any more features than they do and they are
more
accessible. Musicmatch has had that problem for years and isn't
about to change so I would just say replace Musicmatch and you
  should

I don't see anyware there anything like what you say. Look for an

No, it might not say that other software could transfer files. It

Here is what I did say.
Musicmatch is just a player. There're plenty of them that
can
replace that like Windows Media Player or Realplayer. I am
not
   aware
that Musicmatch has any more features than they do and they
are
 more
accessible. Musicmatch has had that problem for years and
isn't
about to change so I would just say replace Musicmatch and
you
   should
   be alright.
I don't see anyware there anything like what you say. Look for an
add device option in which ever player you choose and follow any
instructions. Then go into the help menus and look at transferring
files.

Hi,

Mark the beginning or the selection you'd like to mute with
the left bracket of the letter i and the end with the right bracket
or the letter o. Once that section is selected, the mute should work
on only that portion of the file.

Rusty

Hi list, can someone help me with this. i am using soundforge 7, and i have
made a recording in sterio, and want to erase a bit at the beginning. sf7
advises me, that i can't do this, but must use the mute. i found mute, but
when i try to use it, all i manage to do, is to mute everything. any help
would be appreciated. brian.

According to what I have read about surround sound systems, most of them

Hi Andre,
I purchased these speakers August 2003 find them to be excellent hi-fi for
pc,
frequency response of 20Herz to 18kHz.
AltecLansing VS4121 speakers from BestBuy.com $130.

Consists of two movable satelyte midrange speakers with tweeters attached
one separate subwoofer that stands 10 inches high on the floor giving more
than adequate bass even for pipe organ.

These suit me more than any others I've had including Boston Acoustic.

These rival my home stereo system which is impecable!

 Hi all

Just curious - are there any PC speakers nowadays that can be considered
 really hi-fi quality?

According to what I have read about surround sound systems, most of them
leaves much to be desired when playing music through them. Is this also
 true for computer speakers?

Re: Good PC Speakers

2005-12-28 Thread jaffar
Hi. Personally, I have never found pc speakers to be as warm sounding or as
robust as connecting my pc to my Hi Fi set and letting all the sounds or
music from my pc come out of the Hi FI speakers. Somehow, Pc speakers of
whatever make or model manage to sound very flat and unalive to me. Hi Fi
speakers, on the other hand, bring out the best sounds because it is what
they are made for in the first place. Well, only my 2 cents worth. Cheers!

Sarah and list,
When converting a file from mp3 to wav, you'll only get the quality of
the mp3. Let's say your mp3 is at 128 bit rate. You won't be able to get
the quality up to 256 or 320. When you convert the wav back to mp3, you can

convert it at a higher bit rate but the sound quality will always be that of

the original mp3 which was a 128 in this example.
When you're finished editing your wave file and convert it back to mp3,
the sound won't be any worse than what you started with.
When I make cds I always keep everything as wave files because one time
I went from mp3 directly to a music cd and the results didn't turn out so
good. When that same mp3 was converted to wav then burned, no glitches in
the file.

 Sarah and list,
When converting a file from mp3 to wav, you'll only get the quality of
the
mp3. Let's say your mp3 is at 128 bit rate. You won't be able to get the

quality up to 256 or 320. When you convert the wav back to mp3, you can
convert it at a higher bit rate but the sound quality will always be that
of
the original mp3 which was a 128 in this example.
When you're finished editing your wave file and convert it back to mp3,
the sound won't be any worse than what you started with.
When I make cds I always keep everything as wave files because one time
I
went from mp3 directly to a music cd and the results didn't turn out so
good.
When that same mp3 was converted to wav then burned, no glitches in the
file.

Re: Real Player Question

2005-12-28 Thread Dana S. Leslie
Jim,

Highlight a file of a type you DON'T want played by Realplayer. Click on
Files, and on Open With. Select the player you DO want to play files of that
type, AND be sure to check the checkbox that says always use this program
to open files of this type.

Since, I gather, Realplayer has already made itself your default player,
you'll have to do this, separately, for each files type currently played by
Realplayer that you want played by some other player. But that will probably
be easier than making some other player your default player, and, then,
trying to get Realplayer to play all and only the file types that only it
can play.

Good luck.

Blessed Be,

No, they won't ... or at least Gold Wave won't. Gold Wave will always

Re: launchcast radio and the my station

2005-12-28 Thread Christopher J Chaltain
I tried to sign up for this service with no luck. They guard against bots
by presenting an image and prompting you to type in the code you see in
the image. They have an alternative where you can just type email in
the edit box instead of the code presented in the image, and the rest of
the sign up procedure will be done via email. I did this, but never got
any email back. I submitted a problem report, but again, I got no
response. Does anyone know if this service is still active? The home
page seems to be updated frequently. BTW, it looks promising, both from
the amount of content that seems to be available and the attention to
accessibility.

 Hi,

I know you have to rate stations with this radio system:
 http://ca.music.yahoo.com/launchcast/stations/default.asp

or rather, your station, if you have one. (You have to sign up to
yahoo!
to be able to make your own station).

Anyway, has anyone got the rating system to be accesible; or even
 usable?

 thanks,

PS: usually, I just listen to the stations that it lists, but I'd like

 to
have my own kustom station (say, I want it mixed: pop, rock,
 alternitive,

So now all yahoo stuff lets you put in email for the code thingy? The
trouble is that provides them no bot protection at all, a bot, when
programmed, could put the word email in the box too.

I will be addressing this to yahoo. If I get no response, I will simply
tell
them, or ask them, why they have a center for visually impaired people

 Hi,

I know you have to rate stations with this radio system:
 http://ca.music.yahoo.com/launchcast/stations/default.asp

or rather, your station, if you have one. (You have to sign up to
 yahoo!
to be able to make your own station).

Anyway, has anyone got the rating system to be accesible; or even
 usable?

 thanks,
 Tyler

PS: usually, I just listen to the stations that it lists, but I'd like

 to
have my own kustom station (say, I want it mixed: pop, rock,
 alternitive,
 etc etc).

Re: Question about philips pss110

2005-12-28 Thread Tyler Wood
I believe the player has 256 MB, and I think about 8 hours batterylife. It
features an alarm clock, FM radio, and comes with an FM receever. I'm stil
returning it, though, but I'm guessing, from Timms statement, that it does
work with WMP. But I'm wanting a new stario, and the player was around
$100, so that will go a long way towards the buying of my stario. I'm not
sure on the rest of the specs, but you should find a fare amount of info on
the philips website, although if you want I can look for you.

Re: launchcast radio and the my station

2005-12-28 Thread Christopher J Chaltain
I'm not sure how it works since I've yet to get an email response. My
understanding is that there's more to it than just typing email in the
edit box. My understanding is that this then kicks off a procedure where
an email is sent and replied to, similar to the verification procedure
used when signing up for some mailing lists. Of course, a bot could
automate all of this and work around this safe guard, but I'm sure bots
could also use OCR to grab the text in the image too.

So now all yahoo stuff lets you put in email for the code thingy? The
trouble is that provides them no bot protection at all, a bot, when
programmed, could put the word email in the box too.

I tried to sign up for this service with no luck. They guard against
bots
by presenting an image and prompting you to type in the code you see in

Anyway, has anyone got the rating system to be accesible; or even
 usable?

 thanks,
 Tyler

PS: usually, I just listen to the stations that it lists, but I'd
like

 to
have my own kustom station (say, I want it mixed: pop, rock,
 alternitive,
 etc etc).

It seems like it would be more logical to allow people to just type in their
email addresses, instead of that dreaded security code thing you have to
type with Yahoo, or other programs!

If you convert an mp3 to wav to work with, and then back to mp3, is the
sound quality considerably worse than with the mp3 you started with?

Re: launchcast radio and the my station

2005-12-28 Thread Brent Harding
It's more of the deal that bots flood a certain person with these requests,
otherwise a normal form like Yahoo used to do with email confirmation would
be enough. They must be, by the appearance of things, be trying to curb that
problem as well.

RE: converting from and to mp3

2005-12-28 Thread André van Deventer
Hi

The situation is definitely more complex than the difference between .wav
and .mp3.

If you have an inferior quality recording of whatever y9ou are playing, the
difference between wav and mp3 is not relevant at all. This can possibly
be the case with many older recordings coming from the sixties and earlier.

I would never e.g. listen to classical music in mp3 format at all -
especially modern recordings.
