Re: MP3 wearing out?
Hi: More than likely, your pc has a performance issue. When a hard drive gets used, many files are moved about the drive to make free space available for writing. Unchecked the drive like a dirty appartment will get cluttered. The remote controle, the drinking glasses, will likely take longer to find or use if they are not in there respective places, so too with hard disks and needed files the desired information will take longer to locate, read and execute. With music residing accross large files, clicks, pauses etc... may often manifest during playback. Data corruption can sometimes creep into your files as well. To keep your drive performing properly, remove old and unwanted files with Disk Cleanup , to put all the data in one easy place, and free writing areas all together, you should use disk defragmenter, a utility also available. Both clean and defrag are located under accessories/system tools and should be run at least once a month forresults. Copying a fragmented mp3 or wav file to a portable player I have found will cause a crackling or jerky playback as well. I am glad you brought up the silver lite thing. somehow I was able to go back and choose the classic media player. when I tried the silverlight thing, I was told something about doing maintenance and to try later which didn't make sense at the time when I wanted to listen to a live ball game. somehow I thought that I may have clicked on the TV feed by accident. - Original Message - From: "KANE BROLIN" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Sunday, March 02, 2008 5:51 PM Subject: Re: MLB game day audio and BrailleSense > HHi, Gary and others. > > I've run MLB's GameDay Audio on a PC for ten years now. zenstone question
Hi all, I own both the zenstone and the zenstone plus which is the 1gig unit. I love them both, but the smaller zenstone which has the switch on top instead of the push bar is much better to work with. You do not need any software but as one other person mentioned, you only need to plug it into the usb port, charge it and that is it. You really dont need a manual but go to the blind geek web site and there you can listen to an audio file on the zenstone. I like the larger unit for space, but rather would own the less expensive and more useable one instead. Take care and that is what I know MMM Michael Thanks You... TickTalk Publishing Invites You... You're playing or skimming through a track and you hear a pop, crackle or such like? Stop the playback immediately after you hear the noise and press "p", this makes a selection round the noise and you can press "shift-P" to play back the noise as though it were pencilled out, if you don't like it then press "command-z" to undo what you've done, adjust further settings in preferences so how neat is that? The selection around the sound for pencilling is about a quarter of a second but this can be changed in preferences. Re: looking for a stand-alone soft e q.
Hi John: Here's the deal: I have my cable box sending audio to my delta soundcard which works fine. The problem is, that I have a Q-Bass USB audio headset and I would like to bridge the Delta soundcard to the Q-Bass headset while also having the ability to E Q the sound. So seriously, I'm finding this a bit insulting. You expect gold wave, priced at 29 bucks, to do what sound forge does huh? Well, sound forge is about 400 plus, and honestly, only a millionare could afford it. Not to mention, if you don't like gw's noise reduction features, use audacity, as someone on here already stated, its features in terms of noise reduction are better than gw. Converting Itunes files
Hi Using Sound Taxi am I right in saying that converting Itunes files, I would be better to use the MP3 320 bit rate setting rather then anything lower, for example 192 which some of the files are downloaded at. I don't suppose it will improve the quality but will it maintain it? (I'm kind of assuming that as Sound Taxi re-records the file that it re-compresses it.) When 320 is claimed by Sound Taxi to be 'Perfect' would it be as good as using the wav conversion? Finally would I just be best to use the wav conversion of the files to maintain the original standard? The answer's probably obvious but I just wanted clarification in order to keep the files at the best possible quality. Thanks. Re: Goldwave Audio Editor
Goldwave is good for what it is and what is does. for most things it gets the job done. what I would like is for someone who has successfully tweaked goldwaves noise reduction could do a tutorial and provide some samples, put your best effort forward and demonstrate how good the goldwave noise reduction could be instad of assuming people are ameturs when you don't know for sure. in short, everyone has there own likes and dislikes of various programs. some people have a fancy for appole pie, while others like chocolate cake. then again, if people really cared about good quality broadcasts, they wouldn't use cell phones or cheap phone lines to do sportscasting or mobile news reporting from the field with all the great technology we have today. - Original Message - From: "Dane Trethowan" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Sunday, March 02, 2008 1:56 PM Subject: Re: Goldwave Audio Editor You won't get me saying anything apart from what I've already said, with a product so reasonably priced is it such an issue anyway? Re: MLB game day audio and BrailleSense
HHi, Gary and others. I've run MLB's GameDay Audio on a PC for ten years now. Just this year, I've discovered that MLB tends now to play most of its multimedia content inside a Microsoft SilverLight frame--somewhat somilar to an Adobe Flash Player frame, except it's Microsoft's proprietary flash player. Even on a PC, this causes lots of problems if one is totally without eyesight and running a screen reader, because JAWS does not seem to recognize or allow me to invoke any of the buttons inside of the SilverLight frame with the keyboard. I've brought up this issue on the PC Audio Discussion List previously, and I've presented it to JAWS Tech Support too. No answer as yet. You do have the option sometimes to make MLB's site honor your preference of going back to their "classic" media player, which seems to be just Windows Media Player running inside a separate IE window. This works as long as MLB's multimedia sites are up and runnning. All this might cause a problem with Braille Sense. But since I've not used a Braille Sense before, I regr3ettably can't help you there. -Kane Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: Goldwave Audio Editor
Yeah ok but Sound Forge (unless I'm wrong these days) is ten times the price is it not? Let's face it, you "get what you pay for" in some cases and if you really wanted a better Noise Reduction Plug-in (assuming that the one from Goldwave is as bad as you say it is) then it was my understanding that you could buy the Sound Forge Noise Reduction system as a separate plug-in? Re: Audacity help?
You may want to use a file service such as Sendspace or Filesend or Mediafire or Publicftp. You can get to any of them by using the website you'd expect to use from their names. They're all .com You upload the file and the service sends a link to the person you want to send the file to. They're all free, although they do have premium services with more features that you pay for. - Original Message - From: "Kris Hickerson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Tuesday, February 26, 2008 11:05 AM Subject: Re: Audacity help? > Hi Billy, > > I have tried and tried to send this file to you, but it's too large I > believe. Certainly you can use external plug-ins, you'll see them all presented to you in the menus if you have other applications such as Sound Forge and Total Recorder with its add-ins installed. You just have. I did. I'm one person, but I've been able to do much better with noise reduction using Gold Wave than most people's efforts with Sound Forge have been that I've heard. more GW?
hi guys, I'm very new to goldwave. I'm trying to record a vocal over a piece of music using goldwave. I realise this is not the best, but I have only at the moment an on-board sound card. What is happening. I import the piece of music into goldwave, and then start to play the music track, then press the control + f9 key for record, but nothing records. Even when i try to just record my own voice in goldwave. My speech reader comes through with my recorded voice. Whats going on here?, Billy Billy email. [EMAIL PROTECTED] MSN. Re: Creative ZenStone
You really don't need any software or JAWS scripts to use the zen stone, in fact I really don't understand why people think this is necessary. If you have the one gig model, there is absolutely no need for any additional software. Simply use the USB cable to charge the unit when plugging it into the USB port, a full charge of the battery takes about 3 to 4 hours. After that, you can simply copy and paste any music or audio books using traditional copy and paste methods just like any other drive in windows explorer. It's a whole lot easier than a lot of people might think. At 09:32 AM 3/2/2008, you wrote: >I have jujst got Zenstone and am looking for the software and Jawas >scripts. No I haven't tried it for click and crackle removal as I stated earlier, I mainly use this stuff to capture noise prints and work with them. Having said all that however, I do know that High Criteria produce some excellent primers on their noise reduction plug-in which cover this subject. you can use other programs, but that isn't the point. if you are to do a professional recording, you want a good all around program that does everything well instead of several programs taking up unnecessary hard drive space. frankly I guess it is a matter of preference. The removal of beautiful noise
Now I'm glad we're talking about noise reduction and noise removal as I've found a most useful tool in this game in amadeus Pro which makes the penciling of crackles just about accessible to the blind user so I don't need sighted assistance when doing this any longer, here's how it works. The selection around the sound for pencilling is about a quarter of a second but this can be changed in preferences. anouncing track titles on track change with jfw
Hi this is a question for advanced JFW users. I am using a mediaplayer where the focuss is on a listbox with a current playlist. Whenever the track changes JFW yells out the new track info. Ordinarily this would be okay but now it is getting anoying when I can simply press inser + t and find out the track info myself. I have played with some settings in the config manager but I really don't know what else to try. I've turned off screen echo and highlight is set to none and now I need help! The program I'm using is Foobar but I didn't want people to read that in the subject and just move on since this is really just a JFW question. I hope this isn't too off-topic. thanks for your help in advance! bb Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: Goldwave Audio Editor
Can't you use better plugins? For noise reduction or do you have to use the built-in stuff. bb - Original Message - From: "Gary G Schindler" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Sunday, March 02, 2008 2:37 AM Subject: Re: Goldwave Audio Editor the biggest complaint I have about Goldwave is that the noise reduction isn't very good at all. Soundforge is much better in this respect. I used to like the Diamond Cut programs for noise reduction too, but for editing files for a blind person was and probably still is difficult. if studio recorder from APH had some kind of noise reduction, I might have sprung for it, but it is pricy, so if I am going to shell out money, I'll buy soundforge again. wavepad does some nice things too, but seemed rather limited in what it does do so I quit using it. Re: Goldwave Audio Editor
Hello Dane, I have been setting on the fence for quite a while as far as audio editors go. I am currently using Studio Recorder right now. But it won't let me remove the hissing noise of cassette and reel to reel tapes. I am looking for something that will allow me to do this so that I can make clean sounding CD's. You said that Gold Wave won't take Pay Pal. Will they take credit cards of any kind? I agree with you. it is best to have a sighted person redraw the wave form. most of the younger people probably don't do vinyl restoration like I do so they don't care about noise reduction. - Original Message - From: "Dane Trethowan" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Sunday, March 02, 2008 11:17 AM Subject: Noise Reduction plug-ins I've only ever really seriously used noise reduction plug-ins to remove hiss or constant noise through capturing a noise print, all I've tried thus far (and these include the offerings from Sound Forge, Total Recorder and Amadeus Pro) have done an excellent job at this task. Noise Reduction plug-ins
I've only ever really seriously used noise reduction plug-ins to remove hiss or constant noise through capturing a noise print, all I've tried thus far (and these include the offerings from Sound Forge, Total Recorder and Amadeus Pro) have done an excellent job at this task. Re: Midi files
Hey Bruce, speaking of midi files, there was a version of the house of the rising sun which really was neat, I wonder how I can find versions of that song to listen too? A man who ran a web site, named Tom, I think, way back in 1996 or 1997 had that on his web site, and at the moment I can't think of Tom's last name -- oh hey, it was called "the out post," and he had some neat midi files there when you changed to different parts of his site. He's gone now, for a few years unfortunately, but it's funny how songs haunt a person, not that there's anything particularly special about that song, it is the midi version he had I wish I could get a copy of. :) Thanks Bruce. Re: easy cdda extractor 10?
No trouble, bit busy at the moment but I'll get that sorted for you as soon as I can. Yeah its a problem alright. Now just so everyone knows, I'm not deliberately going out of my way to persecute the author but really! such glaring faults as we've discussed just shouldn't be in software like this and how the hell he's managing to introduce these faults when the weren't in previous versions is beyond me, to be honest perhaps he's racing to get the product out the door? I hope not because if he is then we can only expect more problems like this which shouldn't and have no need to be introduced. anyway my conclusion is that right now is not the right time to go and buy this product, until these nags are fixed so take your time author and fix the problems outlined at your convenience. I know that the developer listens to feedback and that's something, bugs which have been found in previous versions have been acted upon. My biggest knock on Sound Forge is that it is, as others have pointed out, so overloaded with features that try to be everybody's everything. Still, I purchased version 8.0 sometime back and would like to get all I can from it. Can you tell me where to find its noise reduction features and how to work with them? As for DC 6, my only criticism would be the manual's inaccessibility.I Haven't had a lot of trouble in getting around the program. Hi Everyone! I wen't up on to http://www.highcriteria.com to see what the status was with Total Recorder, its been a rather "long time between drinks" it seems since version 6.2 was released so I was wondering whether Version 7 had shown its head yet, obviously not! We discussed on list some of the new features that High Criteria were talking about for Total recorder v7 and I'll be quite frank with you all, the day V7 is released won't be a day too soon as some of the features (such as Time Shifting) will be worth the upgrade cost. Does anyone have any information as to when v7 may be released? Goldwave Tutorial
Hello List! I recently purchased Goldwave. I have also downloaded and installed the manual; however, I would like to get my hands on a tutorial or book for Goldwave similar to what Jonathan Mosen did on Soundforge years ago. I definitely learned from this type of tutorial, as it contains a live do it and show format for Soundforge. Such a tutorial on Goldwave would get me started on using the program. I'm looking for a step-by-step approach (start to finish). Any info on podcasts on the topic would also be useful. Re: Goldwave Audio Editor
Right, well I have to say that I'm surprised you need JAWS scripts with the software at all! but I won't comment further because I took it off my system in favour of a freely available Screen Reader which works remarkably well with every application I've run it past thus far but that's not all that much these days as Windows isn't my main operating system. Goldwave and SoundForge Tutorials
Hello lists! I own both soundforge and goldwave. I am looking for a copy of Jonathan Mosen's tutorial on Soundforge 4-5 (exact version not known) in any form I can get it, preferably MP3, OG, or Wave. Also, I would like to know if such a tutorial exists for Goldwave and, if so, I'd appreciate someone telling me how to get a full tutorial on Goldwave with a step-by-step approach to learning it. The soundforge tutorial by Mosen really helped me learn soundforge and I feel a Goldwave tutorial would be just as useful. You know, I think such tutorials would be good on all such programs, along with the manual in voice. Thanks very much, James Robinson Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: easy cdda extractor 10?
You are missing my point. Yes, you *should* tell the author what is wrong with the program, but just calling the program names and saying the author doesn't care about bugs in a forum he won't read is hardly constructive criticism. Only one of us is denying that the issues you point out exist (it's not me); all right, great, let the developer know what your concerns are, do so respectfully, and something may be done. Personally, the ability to work with DVD's, the ability to burn data CD's/DVD's regardless of the file type, and the ability to burn from ISO images have been absolutely wonderful features, and I'm sure the other problems will get solved. Your washing machine example doesn't, pardon the pun, hold water, because with a washing machine, if a new model comes out you pay for the whole machine, you don't get the new model for free. bruce -- Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.--John 1:12, NIV Bruce Toews Skype ID: o.canada E-mail and MSN/Windows Messenger: [EMAIL PROTECTED] LiveJournal: http://brucetola.livejournal.com Web Site (including info on my weekly commentaries): http://www.ogts.net Info on the Best TV Show of All Time: http://www.cornergas.com On Sun, 2 Mar 2008, Dane Trethowan wrote: > We are giving him a break, aren't we able to point out problems with > the product? Fwd: T&T PodCast and J-Tunes 3.2 information
From: Scott Erichsen [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Vip-L [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi all Two pieces of news for you this time. First, the T&T Blog and Podcast is about to start "broadcasting" once again. As from I think tomorrow night/tuesday, you will be able to get the latest posts from our Blog and Podcast which start in Australia. Currently, our Managing Director Terry Clasper is in Australia about to officially launch and open the new offices of our company with our Australian staff. The podcast will also predominantly focus upon the CSUN exhibition and conference taking place in L A next week and I am sure Terry and Brian Hartgen will both have good things to talk about there. To get to the blog you can select the Blog and Podcasts link from our UK home page at www.tandt-consultancy.com You can go directly to it at http://tandtconsultancy.wordpress.com or paste the following feed into your Podcatching client: http://feeds.feedburner.com/tandt If there is anything you would like covered in the Podcast please contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] Now to other news. For those who missed our appearance within Main Menu (where Skype let us down extremely badly), please find the What's New in J-Tunes 3.2 document below. This will provide you with details of the new features of J-Tunes 3.2 for when it is released. Enjoy ... What's New in J-Tunes 3.2 Introduction J-Tunes 3.2 is the latest release of our interface providing a linking mechanism between JAWS for Windows from Freedom Scientific and the iTunes music management system produced by Apple. While visually appealing, iTunes has always been a challenging application for which to provide a high level of accessibility. We believe that we have considerably extended the use of iTunes for users of JAWS within J-Tunes 3.2 to be launched and released at the cSUN Conference on Technology and Persons with Disabilities (Los Angeles) in March 2008. J-Tunes 3.2 is compatible with JAWS for Windows 6.0 through to 9.0 and iTunes release 7.6 and above. J-Tunes 3.2 provides official support for the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system but the interface can be used with Microsoft Windows XP and 2000. Anyone possessing a valid J-Tunes version 3.1 authorisation file will be able to upgrade to the new release free of charge. Anyone wishing to upgrade or try the evaluation copy providing a ten minute trial will be able to download J-Tunes 3.2 from our web site at www.tandt-consultancy.com or www.tandt-consultancy.com.au or from our distributors serving America and Canada, Next Generation Technologies www.ngtvoice.com New Keyboard Support J-Tunes 3.2 contains a new keyboard interface for executing many functions within the program. Previously, functions were executed using ALT+Control+Windows Key or Control+Caps Lock keys held down and a ALT+Control+further key pressed depending upon the keyboard layout. The J-Tunes Modifier Key is now assigned by default to the Grave Accent key, however this can be changed from a special interface created for the purpose. Alternatively you can add as many J-Tunes Keys as necessary. Once the J-Tunes Key is pressed, the keyboard is frozen. Any subsequent key presses are passed onto the J-Tunes application rather than iTunes which gives plenty of scope for adding commands and has the advantage that executing them is very easy. A user has five seconds to press any letter or figure key on the keyboard to execute a J-Tunes function. If no key is pressed within five seconds, or if the Escape Key is pressed, the J-Tunes keyboard action is cancelled and JAWS confirms the cancellation. As an example of how the J-Tunes Key is used: 1. Press the J-Tunes Key. 2. Release the J-Tunes Key. 3. Press the letter M. The Music section of the iTunes Library is located. Keyboard Help Keyboard Help works in a very similar way to using the J-Tunes Key described above. Pressing Insert+F1 by default, followed by a character or figure, will announce or provide using Braille output a short message describing what the corresponding keystroke would do if you were to press the J-Tunes Key with the keyboard character. As with the J-Tunes Key, the Keyboard Help keystroke can be changed or users can have as many Keyboard Help keys as they wish. After pressing the Keyboard Help key, a user has five seconds to press a keystroke to receive the Help message. Failure to press a character, or pressing the Escape Key, will terminate Keyboard Help mode. Hotkey Help The Hotkey Help has been redesigned so as to make finding the required J-Tunes keystroke easy to do. Once activated with Insert+H, seven categories are presented each denoted by a Hyperlink. Pressing Enter on the Hyperlink will move into the category of keystrokes. At the end of each category is a link to move back to the main index of categories. Changing Default Keyboard Implementation Within the "Setup" category available from Hotkey Help Mode, several Hyperlinks exis

I've found, and this is only my personal experience, that if one knows what one is doing, the noise reduction on Gold Wave can be every bit as good as that with Sound Forge ... or bad, depending on how you look at it. the biggest complaint I have about Goldwave is that the noise reduction isn't very good at all. Re: easy cdda extractor 10?
yes this is the case if you can send me easy cdda extractor 10 it would be cool. I removed it from my machine because of this problem. thanks Hank - Original Message - From: "Dane Trethowan" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Saturday, March 01, 2008 1:14 PM Subject: Re: easy cdda extractor 10? You mean your output folder? If this is the case then yes, this is a well documented problem with the current release of Easy CD DA Distractor v11, its nothing to do with accessibility either, sighted users have exactly the same problem so to this end, I'm very surprised that the developer let such an obvious flaw walk out of his test bench to the Internet, in other words, "not damn good enough".
