A question regarding the burning of an audio cd

2008-07-15 Thread Quinten Pendle
Hi everyone

I need to burn an audio cd with 14 tracks on it.
However, between tracks 8 and 9, there should be no space and no audible
silence.
In other words, the sounds from track 8 are supposed to flow into the sounds
of track 9.
What would be the best way to record these tracks, should I record both
tracks as one single track?
If so, how can I tell the cd when track 8 should be finished, and when
track 9 should start?

I'm using Nero Start Smart to burn cd's.

Thanks for any help.

Sound Forge Tutorials for Version 8 and Above?

2008-07-15 Thread Matthew Chao
Hi, Folks! I just bought Sound Forge 9 and was wondering if there
are any set file (I'm using Window-Eyes) for it. Also, are there any
new tutorials, or will Brian Hartgen's old tutorial still
work? Thanks in advance.--Matthew Chao.

P.S. I got the NBP cheat sheet for it.

Hi, track 8 and 9 can be 2 seperate audio files. Just be sure that the file
that is suppose to be track 8 has no silence at the end and the track 9 file
has no silence at the beginning so that the 2 files will play smoothly 1 after
another. After you add the tracks to your cd layout, go to track 9, hit alt
enter to go to properties and change the 2 seconds pause to 0. Also note that
copy method must be disk at once and not track at once. hth.

Fwd: Total Recorder V7 just keeps getting better

2008-07-15 Thread Steve Pattison
From: Dane Trethowan [EMAIL PROTECTED]
To: VIP-L Mail List [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi Everyone!

Well to be honest, I don't have much call for my Trashbox PC these
days but this application certainly makes the PC worth the while using.

Total Recorder v7 expands on the theme of inovation which was started
with V6, some ground breaking features introduced in V include the
ability to time shift recordings or as the procedure is otherwise
known, Chase Playback. I will hereby refer to Time Shifting as
Chase Playback in this article because the term to Time Shift
actually applies to other audio editing and reproduction procedures.

So what is Chase Playback? Perhaps the following examples best
illustrate the facility. You'll no doubt be aware that with a Tape
deck or VCR, everything is recorded sequentially onto tape, that is to
say you can't play back what's been recorded until you press stop,
then rewind the tape and press Play, this means of course that you
cannot record anything whilst playing the content you previously
recorded unless you have say another deck or VCR connected to take
over the recording from where your other recorder left off. Chase
Playback changes that, you can start recording, go have a cup of
coffee, press the play button and start playing from the start of
the recording. You could also use this facility say if the phone
rings, pause the playback, Total Recorder keeps recording till you've
finished with your phone call, then press the Pause button again to
resume listening from where you left off.

This feature is an admirable enhancement to any audio or video
recording package and I'm extremely disappointed that Audio Hijack Pro
for the Mac still does not have a similar feature, will that come?
Well who knows but I guess we can just keep knocking on the door of
the developers of Audio Hijack and hope for the best.

Chase Playback with Total Recorder is not without its faults
however, I used Chase Playback this evening, started the function
halfway through a recording of a 30 minute news bulletin, about 15
minutes later the Playback suddenly stopped and it only took me a few
seconds to realise why. The scheduler for Total Recorder had stopped
recording the audio source exactly 30 minutes after it had started, so
far so good. I'd started the chase playback halfway through so when
the recording stopped? Well so did the Chase Playback, I was able to
resume by pressing play and thus hear the bulletin to the end but I
have to admit, this distraction was rather annoying and surely, their
must be a work around to avoid this sort of thing happening, I've sent
a note to the developers of Total Recorder so we'll see what happens.

Now we come to a second part of Total Recorder V7 which I believe to
be a great leap forward and that's the ability to Capture Internet
streams in their native format, up until now when you've captured an
Internet stream the stream has been converted to another format thus
usually causing some aspects of audio quality to be lost, you can
still have Total Recorder convert to your desired format if that's
what you want.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get this Software Recording
function to work, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't and here
we find that Audio Hijack just thrashes Total recorder, with Audio
Hijack (as the name suggests), you hijack the source you wish to
capture and that's the end of the story, record, redirect or whatever
but with Total Recorder? Well its a matter of trying to Troubleshoot
or determine why the software isn't capturing the stream, the Skip
call or whatever and as the manual says, this could be for any number
of reasons, anything from incompatible software to incompatible
drivers but I guess, one shouldn't be surprised when running Windows
smile. I don't mind admitting that I just gave up using Total
Recorder to capture the BBC World Service stream or the audio stream
from Radio 2SM in Sydney and got Audio Hijack Pro on the Mac to do the
job instead.

Should you buy Total Recorder? Well the Professional version at $35.00
U.S is a Must Have in my view if you're wanting to record audio,
the Chase Playback function sets this application apart from
anything else I know about thus far and that alone makes your $40.00
well spent. The audio editor isn't too bad and the rules function
makes this software extremely flexible.

When I can, i plan to purchase the video add-on.

Do you have the pre-order website for this radio? I heard Werner Whaan on the

podcast Werner mentions the pre-order website address but with the crowd noise

Easy CD-DA Extractor Upgrade Problem

2008-07-15 Thread Larry Naessens

Hi Everyone. I just downloaded the latest version of easy CD-DA extractor.
After installing it, I attempted to register it using my key from version
10. I copied both the key and the email address directly from the email sent
to me by the developer at the time of purchase. Upon entering and
re-entering the key, I was repeatedly told that it was invalid. When I
attempted to use the company support form to contact the developer and
explain my problem, my submission was blocked, again due to the claim that
my key is invalid. Finally, I logged in at the reg page using my email
address and attempted to retrieve my key in case they had changed it from
the designated code for version ten. At this point, i was told that I needed
to purchase the info. I don't believe that I should have to purchase a key
when one that is supposed to work is already in my possession. Further, if
there is an email contact address on the page either for the developer or
for the company marketing the software, I'm unable to locate it.

I have red on this list that the developer is a decent sort, so presumably
I'm missing something and will be able to get it straightened out with no
problem. With all that in mind, I'm wondering if anyone can
offer a suggestion for contacting them in order to resolve my problem.

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

that sigmatel had a problem. The output is good, but input is very
problematic. The web cam microphones sounded better than any of the external
mics we tried, but they kept dropping out..

It was a shame I had to sell it, the xps was a light and fast machine...

If you google the problem, you will see it mentioned as a known problem.

do you mean so you have a continuous recording without spaces between the

I can't imagine a ripping program that would join them for you. but then

Re: Fwd: Total Recorder V7 just keeps getting better

2008-07-15 Thread Christopher Chaltain
This is just my $0.02, but I think it's an interesting way to start out
a positive article, i.e. referring to your Windows PC and a Trashbox PC.
I know it discourages me, a Windows PC user, from reading the rest of
the article.

Steve Pattison wrote:
 From: Dane Trethowan [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This is just my $0.02, but I think it's an interesting way to start out
a positive article, i.e. referring to your Windows PC and a Trashbox PC.
I know it discourages me, a Windows PC user, from reading the rest of
the article.

Well the

Yes, I've give all due respect to Apple and OSX but this continually
repeated trash box phrase seems almost calculated to get up people's
noses.

I read the rest of the post even though I knew there was going to be a
condescending comment or two about windows in it. there always is.
However, I own the program and haven't installed the Vista version. If
macks are so great why is this guy keeping Windows open for good programs
like total recorder?

Hi! I bought myself a Zoom H2 and it should be arriving by UPS within the
next couple days. I have listened to Neal Ewers' excellent podcasts on this

Thanks in advance for any insights.

the Chase Playback function sets this application apart from
