that's not disk writer that does cross fading
its direct sound output. You'll need to use your jaws cursor.

Thanks, Robert and Brett and to Tom for asking, in the first place! I am
not versed in I.D. tagging, even after a few years of working with Win
Amp!

Now I wonder if the Disc Writer plug in will allow me to crossfade a play
list, without the media library? I hope I am not stretching the topic out
of the ball park, for the PC audio list !

It can be done. I believe the easiest way is to put the files in to a
new playlist, highlight all songs in the playlist, and I believe you can
then do a right click and there should be a send-to submenu then under
that will be autotagger.
The method i use is this. When in winamp, bring up the playlist window,
control n for new playlist, load files, go to to the top of the list
with home, highlight everything with control shift end, then a right
mouseclick with numpad asterisk.
That's the way I do it and there is probably a few other ways as well.
Good luck.

F.S. realised that that is the way most people like to operate so they
provide a menu function for it.

Use insert+J to go to the Jaws menu. Go down to utilities and in the
utilities menu, you will find an entry for sound cards which will take you
into a sub-menu that shows your sound cards plus an entry called Windows
default sound device. The default device is whatever you have set as the
default device in control panel|sounds|audio devices.

Hi all.

I've just moved onto JAWS 11.

In previous versions of JAWS and on XP Home computers, I have been able to
put JAWS through the on-board sound card and speakers, whilst sending all
other audio out to an external Soundblaster sound card.

This was achieved by inserting a line of text in the JFW.ini file.

I attempted to duplicate this method in JAWS 11 but unfortunately, it did
not work.

Anyone had a go at doing this yet? Very much welcome your advice if you
know how to do this.

Very best wishes.

Re: Still Wanting To Know

2009-11-09 Thread Brett Boyer
When you have a playlist set up in the playlist editor. You need to
highlight all files with control a.
Keep in mind you must still be in the playlist editor in winamp. Now that
all files in the playlist are highlight use the right mouse button numpad
star. A menu will pop up and the first item should be "play item(s)" Go down
until you find the "send to" item. In that subemnu there will be an autotagg
option.

Let me know if you don't find it.

Re: Still Wanting To Know

2009-11-09 Thread Mac Norins
Robert,

I want to make this the last entry on this issue, as I don't want to make
the moderator tell me that it is not a PC Audio list subject! Anyway, I
used to be able to accesss the media library,in Win Amp, , with JAWS. As
you are probably aware, that has not been a possibility for quite awhile.
Some would chime in, on the Win Amp list that I was not technically adept,
enough, to deal with the scripting problems, that I and a lot of others
encountered. I do know that I had learned how to use the SQR Disc Writer,
not the Nullsoft Disc Writer; that plug in had a section for crossfading,
from one track, in a play list, to another. A person burned one big wave
file, doing this, but it would come out with tracks, as well! The only
other place I am familiar with creating such a situation, does not involve
the cross fading, for me, but, that is in CD Architect, where I can import
regions, from Sound Forge 6.0, thus making live shows from a stream,, off of
the internet a possibility, for my sighted friends, who have keypad driven
CD players, in their cars! Some of these sighted people are picky, too!

If I was more adept, with Sound forge, I would be able to figure out how to
utilize the crossfading issue, as well, either in the original editing, that
I would do, in Sound forge or in CD Architect, but, alas, I am in that
niche, where I know a little but not a lot; the bane of the formerly
sighted, I must admit!

Thanks for your time,

-Mac-

Well I don't really do a lot of burning of cd's. I mostly just play my music
and some online streams. I use foobar 2000 for all of this. Anyway I love
winamp and have for a long long time. As far as tagging songs I use foobar
now but have used winamp to tag albums with only track numbers for names as
an example.

good website for foobar 2000

2009-11-09 Thread Brett Boyer
Hi. This has been talked about several times on list. I recently found a great
resource for those interested in foobar. I do not reccomend this program to
beginners or to people who do not like to explore and customize there own
programs. Another words, if you like something to work right out-of-the-box
with scripts and everything. This program is not for you.
I might add that jfw works better than Windoweyes at this point. Hopefully
someone will take a few seconds and make a couple of tweaks for a WE script.
Anyway, if you are tired of winamps bells and whistles. Would like a program
where you can manage several playlists at a time, break away from the norm...
You get my point. Check out this media player for yourself.
here is a neat website to learn about foobar. Keep in mind this site was not
created for blind people but everything is really straight forward. I have been
a foobar user for over a year and a half and I love it.
For example, I have my tv shows in one playlist, my regular listening music in
another, some live streams in another, and a book I'm currently listening too
as well. Everytime i open foobar their are the playlists like I left them.
Anyway sorry for the long post. Just found this site and thought it might be
useful.

When you have a playlist set up in the playlist editor. You need to
highlight all files with control a.
Keep in mind you must still be in the playlist editor in winamp. Now that
all files in the playlist are highlight use the right mouse button numpad
star. A menu will pop up and the first item should be "play item(s)" Go
down until you find the "send to" item. In that subemnu there will be an
autotagg option.

Let me know if you don't find it.

It can be done. I believe the easiest way is to put the files in to a
new playlist, highlight all songs in the playlist, and I believe you
can then do a right click and there should be a send-to submenu then
under that will be autotagger.
The method i use is this. When in winamp, bring up the playlist
window, control n for new playlist, load files, go to to the top of
the list with home, highlight everything with control shift end, then
a right mouseclick with numpad asterisk.
That's the way I do it and there is probably a few other ways as well.
Good luck.

The only
other place I am familiar with creating such a situation, does not involve
the cross fading, for me, but, that is in CD Architect, where I can import
regions, from Sound Forge 6.0, thus making live shows from a stream,, off
of

the internet a possibility, for my sighted friends, who have keypad driven
CD players, in their cars! Some of these sighted people are picky, too!

If I was more adept, with Sound forge, I would be able to figure out how
to
utilize the crossfading issue, as well, either in the original editing,
that

I would do, in Sound forge or in CD Architect, but, alas, I am in that
niche, where I know a little but not a lot; the bane of the formerly
sighted, I must admit!

Thanks for your time,

Re: Still Wanting To Know

2009-11-09 Thread Brett Boyer
Ok, now you know you're in the playlist editor. When you type control + n
winamp creates a blank playlist. Now you have to load files or folders into
this window. When you type shift + l winamp pulls up a folder box with a
treeview of your computer. If you need to load files instead of an entire
folder use l by itself. This will bring up a standard open box where you can
browse to the files you need to add. Once this is done and your back in the
playlist editor you can use up and down arrows to look at the items in the
playlist. There are several things you can do with these files like move,
delete, etc. All of this is in your jfw help for winamp. Anyway at this
point u can press control + a to select the entire playlist. Then use your
jaws right click and a context menu pops up. The first item in the menu says
"play item(s), go down until you here "send to". Pull up that sumenu and you
should have a few choices one of them being autotagger. Now for some reason
Robert doesn't pull this up. This may be some kind of winamp lite versus
standard, I'm not sure. Let me know your results.

RE: Problems Playing WMV and MOV Files

2009-11-09 Thread Caroline Ford
Ray,

I did as you suggested and, after exhausting all other possibilities, I
contacted the BBC. I have received an acknowledgement but nothing else
after five days, which I'm quite surprised about.

I was determined not to give up on this though, so have tried all I could
possibly think of. I have downloaded two separate codec packs, deleted the
DRM information in Vista as suggested on the BBC site and allowed Windows
Media Player to re-create it, checked that my sound card and graphics
drivers are up to date, and checked and double-checked the recommended
settings for Windows Media Player. Absolutely nothing worked.

I then transferred the file to a PC running XP and it played perfectly first
time. This still didn't explain why things didn't work in Vista, but at
least it indicated that the file wasn't corrupt and that WMP is capable of
playing WMV files, which I was beginning to doubt.

One final idea occurred to me this evening. I unloaded Jaws, then tried to
play the file, and for some inexplicable reason, it started playing. I do
not understand why as my sound card (Realtek High Definition) is more than
capable of playing more than one sound at a time, but this was finally the
solution which did the trick.

I have no idea what it is about Jaws which is blocking the playback of the
file, but have contacted the Jaws dealers in the UK to ask for an
explanation. In the meantime, it's easy enough to unload Jaws first, and I
can even re-load it once the file is playing with no ill effects. I just
wish I'd thought of this about a week ago!

Thanks for your interest, and this is a solution I won't forget in a hurry.
I have just received Jaws 11, so will install that and see if it suffers
from the same problem.

Caroline.

OK, problem solved for the .mov files. I'd forgotten you'd be playing them
outside of the website environment, but some find Quicktime Alternative
good
when encountering .mov files within websites, though there is a hack around
for getting to .mov streams to defeat embedding. Belive that's somewhere in
the GW Micro Blogg.

I think though Caroline you could do worse than ask the Beeb about this,
even
if the form you go through is a long winded process.

Come back to us though if and when you do make rogress.

Caroline Ford wrote:
Ray,

I seem to be getting on quite well with QuickTime now. It is a stand-alone
application, so you can have an icon for it on your desktop and launch it
from there. I think there was some reference to playing files directly from
the internet in the documentation I read about it, but this isn't what I
wanted to do anyway so I didn't look into that too closely.

So far so good though, although one day I do hope I'll have the patience to
find out why the WMV files failed so miserably for me.

Okay, use Multiquence to do your multi track recording/mixing and then
associate that with an audio editor for editing of tracks, such as
Gold Wave. You can download Multiquence at http://www.goldwave.com
and try before you buy, costs $35.00 and Gold Wave costs $55.00,
Multiquence can handle both audio and video and is quite accessible,
using it here.

amadeus Pro, beats the pants off the suggestion I made on the GW-info
list.

station IDs, with some voice tracks, affects, ETC.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,

RE: Problems Playing WMV and MOV Files

2009-11-09 Thread Ray
Blimey Caroline, certainly shows persistence on your part! So glad your
process of illimination has got the result you want. (The Beeb may yet
reply).

Just to comment that, has it happens, I have no Vista or JFW, still using XP
pro. I'd certainly be interested to hear if the tech gurus giving JFW support
in the UK have an answer for this cunnundrum. the list would benefit by
hearing such an explanation.

For what it's worth, I run an external synth on both my XP machines so the
sound card never has to do double duty for speech and sound. As you say
though you certainly wouldn't be taxing that that sound card of yours doing
what you are doing.

You wonder if, somehow, theythe drm and JFW protection scheme are responsible
for this behaviour, but the clue must lie in the fact that you can load JFW
(after) beginning to play the BBC material. It as as if the DRM scheme is
looking to see if anything else can digitally swipe the protected material
before it'll start playing.

As a final aside to a possibly over lengthy post, the Jarte Word Processor I
use "looks" to see if a screen reader is running and if one is, then disables
features of the program that screen readers can't get along with. (You can
defeat this inspection of course by loading the screen reader after Jart has
loaded. Just a a possibly erronious comparison but anyway, let us know if you
get some sort of explanation and whether upgrading causes the problem to go
away.

All the best.

Caroline.

Okay..I have established that I can get to the playlist editor..but still
am not doing something right! What is supposed to happen, once you do
"control-N?" And do I need to go to my list of files (not in Winamp)..but
on the computer; do I need to copy and paste into Winamp? Sorry if I'm
just not getting this as quickly as I should!

Hello list: If you've been following the saga of me trying to tag more
than one file, you'll be happy to know that..thanks to Brett and his
patience, I finally got it done!  I knew I was on the right track;
still..it hadn't done anything! Then I remembered what he said about
selecting all the items in the playlist...bingo! Thanks to Brett for his
help..and thanks to the rest of the list for your indulgence!
